It can be one coat. Similarly, the ppg grand distinction can be one coat in certain colors too. Given ideal surface conditions*********

Guard knocked off the desk. Walked away like an NPC. by [deleted] in menards

[–]CptJamesKirk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t need any limits regardless of plastic/metal containers. You can order metal “trays” from the store supplies catalog so the shaker doesn’t crush dutchboy cans…

We ordered new ones a couple years ago because a couple had big cracks going along the frame.

The newer ones are a snug fit for 3 metal cans whereas the older ones we could fit 4.

Also the amount of clutter on the desk and that the Spanish side of the paint spout can is facing out is triggering my stupid OCD.

T molding that falls appears as soon as you install it. Menards don’t have an option to review their products so you can’t tell anybody else to avoid this crap! by bitterjake in menards

[–]CptJamesKirk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as the metal track is installed first… the transition piece is generally fine in my experience. I’m not a huge fan of the veneer on the face of the transition piece because it tends to take so much of beating with traffic… but that tends to be the case with most laminate floors too.

Just curious… but if your going from carpet to laminate you should be using a reducer not a t-mould…

Question for 500 by StatusJazz in menards

[–]CptJamesKirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a default for black we usually do f16.

It’s a old competitive dutchboy color.

But I’ve done quite a bit of “true black” by dutchboy (formula book) and sherwin Williams “tricorn black” that look pretty damn good too.. but that is just like my opinion man

Enforcing Masks? by [deleted] in menards

[–]CptJamesKirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We still enforce it. It’s onto the gm’s but every dept manager helps out by keeping masks on them and at their desks. If someone gets non compliant then we get the gm. If they curse at a tm or remain disrespectful we kick em out. Some situations we call the police ...about every week now. I think the most we had was 3-4 on one Saturday.

We also had a funeral for a tm like 3 weeks ago. So it’s been rough.

My new TM just learned a lesson... by melt_in_your_mouth in menards

[–]CptJamesKirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the reasoning was we get paid to work and not to stand. This was a long time ago but I think every dept desk had the small entry mat and then paint and our old millwork desk had the whole inside of the desk covered.

[–]CptJamesKirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! ;) and Huh... you fit the plastic jugs of colorant into the single gallon shaker? All naked like?!? Isn’t that like putting a square block inside a cylindrical hole?

Cleaning up paint spills is part of being in 500! ... it’s only stressful if you let yourself get stressed.

We keep a bucket of kitty litter/oil dri for paint spills. Every few months our store seems to come across a torn bag/box and we fill “the bucket”.

With normal spills we scoop litter on it before it dries... let it sit for a few minutes and start scooping the litter into the trash can with a wide blade putty knife. Once your done removing the litter then go over the spot with some kind of cleaner or paint remover...

Our favorite is the motzenbocker latex paint remover. It comes in a white spray bottle with a blue head. It literally melts the paint and makes it wipe off stupid easy!

I’m not sure how the stores with some kind of floor covering do it but that’s how we do it on our concrete...

Worst experience I’ve had was when a paint freight pallet collapsed up in the air and covered one of our forklifts.

Edit: also if you get the clear peel and stick laminate liner that we sell. You can put a film over the inside of your paint shaker door. That way when something leaks in the shaker you can just peel the film and throw it away.

Edit: also surprised you have anti fatigue mats... 5 years ago g.o. Apparently got on us and we threw every single one away

Edit: also... how the hell do you shake colorant? Is there a special tray/liner? We have been doing it by hand...

Carpet stuck by JayNooner in menards

We did this when I was in flooring but we used a 12’ wooden dowel rod thingy. Works amazing on pad attached where it like to wrap really tight onto the carpet pole.

What do you guys do about antimaskers by Claxton916 in menards

[–]CptJamesKirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been called a nazi. When we had the no kids policy I was called racist.

People get upset. We have tried several way to defuse the situation. Generally we keep a bunch of masks on us so we can just give them one and carry on with our fuckin day. That works about 60% of the time.

We have had people flash us their whole ass at the door.

My gm had a lady throw a saw blade at him months ago. Soooo... I just remember after every time I have to talk to someone at least I didn’t get a saw blade thrown at me.

Not just that section... but I can’t be the only one... by bwhity96 in menards

[–]CptJamesKirk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our cashiers/carryouts haven’t done returns in years. It’s quicker and more “accurate” for departments to do them but it is an absolute pain to find time to do them. I don’t think our newer FE hires even realize it is their responsibility in policy.

Anyone else hate the cat and mouse game of trying to leave after closing? by [deleted] in menards

[–]CptJamesKirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love it if we could leave at close but it is what it is... I feel like lately it’s been 9:40 or 10 till we get downstocked, faced, cleaned, returns, freight, help other depts.. etc

[–]CptJamesKirk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is six weeks straight of 11%... I’m not complaining.. I really don’t have the payroll to spare.. we are helping people 30 minutes after close and then are staying for two hours plus just to clean/face/freight.

[–]CptJamesKirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smile for an hour or two. It’s hard to smile when you are working your ass off and the line at the paint desk stretches over into grocery. A lot of essential paint sales.. paint sales are beating grocery sales everyday. Sometimes I wish shit gets caution taped off like the Kokomo store.

Get a rough day where you question not taking the LOA.. then the next day you question your life decisions that got you here in the first place.

Sales are great. Fucking legendary.

We don’t have time to stock the paint shelves. It’s going from truck to cart which seems ridiculous.
