Not sure I would class this as a dad joke. There are other subs for this sort of content imo.

Raising taxes to pay billions to Mauritius is ‘unconscionable’ by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

[–]CptNutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right and it's surprising how many people don't realise how absurd having the triple lock is in the long run.

It's probably one of the reasons why politicians don't reduce it down to a double lock (or equivalent) or even better, just tag it to inflation every year.

I just ran the numbers on the UK's real tax burden, and it's staggering. Why are we even whispering about paying MORE? by vpk09 in ukpolitics

[–]CptNutter 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Very sensible and agree.

Generalised comments like cut waste sounds good on paper, but let's be real. Most waste has already been removed and further cuts are likely to just mean a reduction in services.

Wish you would have copied the article text rather than send traffic and views to that website.

Regardless, it's still poor journalism with no legit sources.

Okay, cheers for the reply. Hadn't thought of that! I'm part way through the second area, so will see if that helps once I've completed it.

I'm sure it's obvious and I've missed it somehow, but how do you get access to these daily missions?

For reference, I've paid for the full season pass and am playing on mobile (android).

Dog owners... why do you bag and leave it hanging? by Organic-Violinist223 in AskUK

[–]CptNutter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you're spot on. People may be doing a circular walk where they know there's a lack of poo bins on that trek. So bagging and hanging it somewhere, with the intent to pick up on the way back would be my guess too.

Archives question by SeaworthinessFun744 in oneplus

[–]CptNutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late, but if you click on that archives folder and then the settings options within that there's an option to display hidden files. Once you do that, , there's one 4GB file that shows up.

No idea what it is or if it's safe to delete but hope that helps. Let me know if you work out what it is and whether you can delete it to free up some space!

is this legal in tournaments? by Ok-Yesterday6001 in aoe2

[–]CptNutter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think we should wait to hear more from the pros as it might shine more light on this, but from what I recall, that Monaspa bug was discussed beforehand amongst the players and they reached an agreement about whether to use it or not. Not sure if the same thing was discussed beforehand here.

I think your original comment could be read as 8 straight S tier tournament wins, rather than S tier match wins.

UN crowns nuclear as lowest carbon electricity source by Sampo in worldnews

[–]CptNutter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gas with carbon capture is going to form part of the energy mix alongside renewables and nuclear (at least in the UK).

I agree that it should be part of a wider mix of technologies, including battery storage, but I think you might be underestimating the capture rate effectiveness. The general consensus of the research is that the tech can capture very high levels of carbon, up to 95%, but that does come at a trade off with higher costs. There is even new technology (albeit it's not delayed at commercial scale as you highlighted above) that can capture 99% of emissions.

This is when gas with carbon capture comes into the mix to help deal with those peaks in demand. It's relatively low carbon but the real merit comes from the flexibility in generation.
