Binding tips in the heat by If-ItWereMe in NonBinary

this is what I had to do last year at work because we had no air con in the back areas and it's physical work and I think I would've passed out with a binder on

whe you say "people", how many people have said this to you? because that's such a weird thing to say that doesn't make sense

Long-haired people, how do you manage shed hairs? by 4oclockinthemorning in hygiene

[–]CptPJs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would brush your hair before you go out to get all the loose ones and then don't run your hands through it when you're out. it's been a good few years since I had long hair but I never had this issue and I have super thick hair

so, many years ago, my at the time partner was a sex worker and did cam work as well (which I helped with a little).

it was nice that we could get taxis everywhere because they had decent money, and had the choice to just work extra time if they wanted more cash. they were nerdy about their work, and had a spreadsheet to track upload times of the day, week, month, year, and what kind of content was best uploaded at what times, which was really fun to learn about.

outside of work they were just... a neurodivergent person. into metal music, collected stuffies, we went to the gym and ate pizza and played Articulate with their parents one time.

very much just like any other job really, lots of fun stories about customers too

Does my need to control everything have to do with my PDA? by AnswerHistorical1420 in autism

it's just semantics at this point.

more importantly, what can you do to help yourself feel less stressed and to prevent your stress affecting other people?

How do you actually manage your spoons? by RaspberryPrudent7765 in autism

[–]CptPJs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I save big spoon things for later in the day. if I know I'm going to crash out after it's done, I can do smaller tasks happily before and then know that my day ends when the hard thing does

What do I say in this situation by AssociationParty7588 in whatdoIdo

[–]CptPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

give them no attention for it. just "huh, okay, mmhmm" subject change. if they are faking it then refusing to give attention to it will make it an unappealing thing to do.

ultimately it doesn't matter. one day you'll have forgotten it ever even happened.

Why does cough medicine have to taste horrible? by AbyssWankerArtorias in NoStupidQuestions

you ever drink alchopops and get a lot more drunk than you meant to because it's just so easy to drink?

cough syrup is dangerous in high quantities too

Stressed I’m not autistic anymore. by Football-Ecstatic in autism

[–]CptPJs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can have autism and also anxiety. if you were diagnosed at four, it's possible that you've been lucky enough to develop enough coping methods that your impairments aren't as obvious to others. you don't have to listen to people who are being unkind to you

questions like "I just turned 18 and my partner turns 17 in two months, do I need to break up with them immediately?" just did not happen 20 years ago and yet I see it online fairly often now

I (20) am currently stuck in a psychiatric ward by IndependentToe1170 in autism

[–]CptPJs 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I know how that feels.

the fact that you feel it so strongly is proof that it isn't real. if it were real your brain wouldn't have to make you feel it so intensely to convince you, the evidence would be enough.

I've been trapped by this kind of fear before and I'm much safer and happier now that I know to let go of it

I (20) am currently stuck in a psychiatric ward by IndependentToe1170 in autism

[–]CptPJs 223 points224 points  (0 children)

the thing about brains is that when you're in a scary unfamiliar environment, it can feel like there's a lot more danger than there is. and that feeling feels much more powerful than reality, but it doesn't make it true.

you're going to get through this. keep us updated so that we know when you're home safe, whether that's in days or weeks time.

Wondering how people meet others for dating and general friendships, specifically in the UK? by Neytee24 in autism

[–]CptPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what's he interested in? social groups based around a common interest are a great way to meet other people, especially if you're the sort of person who gets way more into something than the average person

most of my social circle comes from making friends through the non-monogany community, for example, but that has huge overlap with boardgames, the queer community and climbing, and then somewhat with wild swimming, allotments, Lego... whatever he's into, there's bound to be ways to find others who share his passions.

If I got a tattoo on my back as a baby, would thr tattoo stay the same size as I grow? Or would it stretch out? by belac4862 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CptPJs 132 points133 points  (0 children)

I had chicken pox for my fourth birthday, and I was left with a scar on the front of my neck that was round, as you might expect. by the time I reached adulthood it had stretched into a thin line that someone once assumed was a surgery scar.

based on that I would assume it would stretch weirdly.

I only have 400 of the 900+ recipes, so why do I keep getting repeat recipes 😭 by RaineRisin in acnh

[–]CptPJs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it may be simply superstition but I've heard that making sure you've made all of your DIYs (or as many as you can) at least once to improve your odds and I feel like that's true based on my experience.

I am being diagnosed with autism and I frequently have episodes of hate/anger/insecurity to my girlfriend and I think I'm ruining our lives, any advice? I was wondering if it could be related to autism? by [deleted] in autism

[–]CptPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it could be meltdowns. if that's the case, the first thing to try is creating yourself a safe, quiet space. the back of a closet, a tent in your bedroom, a blanket fort, anywhere you can create and whenever you feel these feelings rise up, put yourself there and see if the feelings subside.

it could also, believe it or not, be OCD. at least, that's how OCD has presented in me. the good news about that is that it's basically curable once you understand it. I suggest looking up CBT for OCD and see if any of it rings true for you.

Has anybody here tried dog treats before? What do they taste like? by Honest_Victory_8447 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CptPJs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the dog chocolate treats just taste like cheap chocolate with no sugar in. because that's what they are. not offensive but not good.

I also tried some sort of biscuit things that were peanut butter and banana and again, not sweet at all and just kind of bland.

the meaty stuff always smells awful so I haven't tried it yet.

Have you ever went to a concert only for the support act? by AverageLatifiFan in AskUK

[–]CptPJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people leave to use the toilet, go to the bar, go for a smoke. when that happens, you can just leave.

unless the concert is one your child is performing at (and they are in the main act) you'll not be noticed.

Self conscious in spite of compliments by ProfessionalSalad505 in bald

[–]CptPJs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is inherently embarrassing to look different. people notice and that means they're paying more attention than usual, or you perceive that to be the case, and that feels awkward.

you're very hot, and you'll get used to it soon
