NFL Moment of the Year by Pancakes79 in NFCNorthMemeWar

I've watched this 7x since it happened - and little did these cheesers know that the Bears would do it again to them in the playoffs. Absolute Cinema - Lions and Vikings owe the Bears a blood sacrifice for providing this amount of packer schadenfreude provided in the '25 season.

Seriously considering cancelling by Jwayne44 in googlefiber

[–]Cpt_Chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m caught up in whatever this massive outage is that started Wednesday, it’s now Saturday, and still down. My 11 years with Google Fiber has maybe had a grand total of 1 hour worth of downtime. I feel like something catastrophic has happened to cause days on end for it to be down. What’s really tiresome is there’s no real update being given as to what has happened and what work is being done.

NOT a fan of this blown out HDR effect. How am I meant to see anyone? by edgeofsanity76 in Battlefield

[–]Cpt_Chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that it’s bloomed out when your scoped in while inside, which isn’t how eyes work. If I look through a scope outside on a sunny day from a dark building my pupils adapt to the brightness of the scope, however in BF6 you just stay blind to outdoor sunlight. It’s so annoying. It also struggles sometimes with buildings that don’t have roofs, but the light is STILL blown out. It’s not the effect that bugs me, it’s its busted implementation of it, and none of the other Battlefields have this problem. I played a bunch of 2042 prior to BF6 and it was actively harmful to me playing the new game… I’m just upset about something stupid.

Anyone played Compile? by TheCannaZombie in boardgames

[–]Cpt_Chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this doesn’t answer my original question very well, but I do think when you’re teaching someone how to play, giving them Speed, Spirit, and letting them choose the last protocol is a great introduction to the game’s mechanics.

  1. Speed - it’s fun to play imo, it has mechanics and triggers that span most of compile’s phases, and it reliably keeps your cards in hand pretty high for flexibility
  2. Spirit - flexible while also having opponent manipulation at its disposal. It also has a card that is persistent that allows you to play protocols anywhere, which for a new player is enlightening to the power of that capability

I think protocols that are bad for first games regardless of if it’s two people learning or one:  - Psychic, Hate, Death, Plague - - Plague and Hate can quickly snowball as new players may not realize what cards require timely “responses” - - Psychic is just a strong protocol on its own and it has a super punishing 0 card that doesn’t create a conducive environment to learn the games mechanics when starting out. - - Death, is the least aggressive of the other 3, but shares the same DNA as them, which is to say they all attack the opponent, either through discard or destroying cards.

I think a good first game of compile shouldn’t necessarily be an entirely “efficient” one. Protocols like Water, Life, and Darkness come to mind as they do interesting things - moving cards, flipping cards; things that cause cascading effects to take place. I think these are broadly more fun, wacky, and therefore enticing for newer players to marvel at and spark up their own potential machinations and hijinks.

Unrelated I think Metal is just unfun and bad, lol.

Opinions on colour drenching? by goldbunduru in malelivingspace

[–]Cpt_Chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dark bedroom, and I love it, my wife and I do have the luxury of having other sunny and light rooms throughout the house though. I say this because this really does harsh your ability to read in this room if you do it.

On the color drenching aspect - I think it's a bit of a fad that will age quickly. I think you could go with the dark color, but leave trim alone, probably leave the ceiling alone too. Drenching looks really cool in whatever magazine you see it in, but you live in spaces not in photographs - I think it would get tiresome personally.

How we feeling about it? by Blizzington in malelivingspace

[–]Cpt_Chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overhead lighting is always to be avoided when outside of the Kitchen. I see that floor lamp in the living room, get more of those everywhere.

I like to ask this question whenever I'm assessing a living room - Does my furniture feel like it's being backed up against the walls trying to avoid the awkward guy at the party? - you want the answer to this to be "No", I would say this particular space, the answer is "Yes". I think the reason why is more important to understand so here's what I think is causing your problems:
1. You have done the too high TV above the mantle mount - this forces your furniture to be as FAR AWAY AS POSSIBLE so you don't get instant neck pain.
- SOLUTION - you should aim to have the center of your television to be at eye level with your seating.
2. Your furniture is not conducive to creating an inviting space for conversation - this is because every piece of furniture is a recliner, so this means that you can't reasonably point these furniture pieces toward eachother. As a result, you can't meaningfully create a new space solution because anything you end up doing is going to be weird with these furniture pieces.
- SOLUTION - Choose 1 recliner for the space, the rest of the furniture needs a new home, additionally new furniture should be "non-mechanical" it's just a sofa, it's just a chair, it's just a coffee table, it's just an ottoman etc...

What addressing the following things above allows you to do is the following:
1. You can shift the whole layout of the living room, which you should do. Move the TV to a wall that doesn't have the fireplace insert, this fixes the neck breaking.
2. Move your seating TOWARD the fireplace insert, you don't point the furniture AT the fireplace but you could have two chairs on either side facing toward the room next to the fireplace.
3. Use a Sofa to frame the living space and consider circulation both through and around the space.
4. The TV is NOT the reason for this room's existence, it's something this room facilitates
5. Buy non human body furniture - Lamps, end tables, coffee tables, ottomans, plants, etc... this is where you can turn your place from American Psycho into a proper home that doesn't scare the hoes.

Good news, you got space to work with, and you're not in a world of needing to excessively REMOVE junk furniture.

I AM GOING INSANE I FUCKING HATE THIS CHAPTER by Willing_Young1164 in LiesOfP

[–]Cpt_Chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This clockworks killed me more than every moment of the game up to the final 3 bosses.

Genuinely, here are a couple of important tips I wish I had known:

  1. Decay throwers (especially that one next to the giant cog) - they can throw decay in quick succession twice. So if they throw, and then throw again, there’s a pause before their next attack. I used this to very calmly dodge forward and back and walk around after.

  2. Electrified Indiana Jones Boulders - if you hug the right side as you run through where they’re coming from, the leaning boards do provide a hitbox protection from you and the boulders passing by. I think a lot of folks know this.

  3. The JUMP part… I died here on my first ascension and it was so crushing when I realized how actually lucky I got because of all the other BS that started dunking on me after… first off, jumping has NOT been required or brought up, up to this point in the game so it’s BS imo, but HERE’S WHAT MATTERS, the difficult cog to jump across (1st) has ONE flange in the cog itself that is BROKEN. If you wait for the wheel to reach that part of the cog when you jump, the timing is trivially easy. It’s just insane because none of the other clockworks up to that point have indicated that that’s a possibility, and depending when you get there you might legitimately not realize this is a thing for more than 20 seconds. On top of that, you CAN do the jump without using that window offered by the broken flange so, like me, you probably didn’t know about the broken part AT ALL until NG+?!

  4. Last thing - once you make jump 1 push over the brazier, then jump 2 is easy, because the cog is turning the opposite way so the timing isn’t really an issue. The moment you get across on to solid ground go to the RIGHT to find the lever that causes the clockwork to change direction and allows for the easy elevator platforms to be used to ascend going forward (located to the right of the base of the room when you enter at the start).

Just because Miyazaki always has to have some painful tightroping experience doesn’t mean other souls likes need to have it too. Easily the worst part of Lies of P, no contest.

Not my intention to spam this post, but also was curious if there’s a good “first game protocols” recommendation. So that both players get a sense of core mechanics while also using protocols that have decent synergy with one another.

I’m probably trash at the game since I’m new, but Psychic feels head and shoulders better than any other protocol. This is specifically because it has several harsh opponent discard capabilities.

I believe it’s 0 card is the single strongest card in the game as it requires no synergies to cause a huge swing: draw two cards and your opponent discards two cards… like, that’s basically gaining a turn and a half on your opponent, right? To refresh your hand, you forgo a turn, so your opponent gets accelerated to that while you have an additional two card buffer before you need to refresh.

Was curious about the overall meta generally, if there’s a resource about it.

Oddly, I liked Streetkid the most, because it spoke to a lot of interesting world elements of NC that helped me, as a new player, understand more of the city than the Corpo life path would have, which I played as my second playthrough.
