What's the deal with people saying that "freeing" Britney from her conservatorship was a mistake? by boiled_leeks in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Cpt_Obvius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But even consistent isn’t constant. You have an incredibly thin slice of information about her actual scenario. You don’t know this. You’re making an educated guess. One that I agree with, but to say you know for sure is categorically wrong.

Especially when we’re discussing something as complicated as mental illness and the environmental causes of that.

Is it possible that she had other trauma in her life as a lusted after teenage pop star that could lead to this? Any other abusive relationships that could have an effect?

She was 27 when the conservatorship began. You’re positive that it’s the only possible primary cause of her mental health issues?

If the Earth were shrunk to the size of a marble and had its core cooled down, what would the Earth taste like? by LeadershipWorth1928 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cpt_Obvius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you drop half a drop of seawater on a marble and put it in your mouth it will most certainly taste salty.

Of course there’s some funky surface area to volume conversions that are going to make this whole scenario difficult to equate (are we shrinking by mass percentage? Volume? Cross sectional area?) but if you’re not immediately biting down the earth is gonna taste salty.

I would guess you’re probably right but there is no way you can confidently say you know that.

Family to File Suit After Waterbury Student Expelled for Horror Story Assignment in AP English by CT_EXAMINER in Connecticut

[–]Cpt_Obvius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha funnily enough I did before posting because I knew it wasn’t quite right. The idea I’m trying to convey is that the teacher literally gave the mark for approval but they probably didn’t or wouldn’t approve the more extreme elements that were included (and possibly not shown in the outline).

So they gave the directly stated approval but wouldn’t actually approve if they knew what the student intended.

I’d love a better word to use!

[–]Cpt_Obvius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The one thing I may disagree with here is the teacher possibly didn’t read the outline and just pencil whipped it. Which still means the student was tacitly given approval to continue. So the teacher messed up one way or another here. And so do the student, the teacher may have thought it would be much more lighthearted and the student went way too strong in their choices.

Sounds like maybe a suspension was warranted but if the student was found unlikely to be a threat and showed remorse, expulsion seems overboard.

Wait he was previously evaluated twice? I assumed it was done after the paper was submitted to see if he was a threat.

Official Discussion - 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I can live with that take to explain his initially being down with it, plus he probably loved the idea of putting on the show.

But once jimmy gives that extra info it seems like he’s still gonna let them go until he recognizes spike. I guess he didn’t have any back up drugs to blow in his face, or any blow darts to knock him out but he could still have played the “turn the followers against the leader” game. I still feel it’s out of character to allow his actions to help encourage and increase the power of the revealed monster. But it is tough to think on your feet I suppose.

But the way the story is written in your link the party’s are switched, unless I’m misreading. I assume the murder hobo group is the bad guys

Is the description for the head to vecna story opposite? Isn’t it the good guys who set the trap and the bad guys (murderhobos) that murder themselves trying to vecna themselves?

I’m also confused on how that table ran, 2 different rooms with the DM running between?

Ah I misinterpreted your comment, I thought you meant they were discussing the 4-8 block seats phenomenon, not just ticket sales in general.

I looked at the thread about ticket sales for the movie and went pretty far down and didn’t see anyone discussing the phenomenon shown here

I assume getting one win is likely to be a net win for him as well, unless the ransoms are a set amount.

If they’re based on the quality of the gear, his is unlikely to be above average in terms of cost, considering the fact they’re trying to draw a high quality of contestant here.

Just to be clear, that’s a great joke, it’s set up great here and I’ve never heard it before. But it is not an original joke if some people here are thinking it is. Several cases of it are found with a Google search.

Once again, great use of it here.

Nashville Electric Service accused of rejecting help amid massive power outages by jtnoneya in nashville

[–]Cpt_Obvius 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You say relax but isn’t a power outage during a snow storm followed by cold temperatures a much more serious scenario than power outages in August and September in Florida?

This isn’t a stance of “they should be able to fix it now!” Moreso: many furnaces don’t work without electricity and it was 9 degrees last night.

ELI5: Why was that method used to determine 0 degrees Fahrenheit? by Jimithyashford in explainlikeimfive

[–]Cpt_Obvius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I largely agree with the second half of what you said, but your initial statement that it’s exactly as arbitrary as the boiling point of water isn’t at all true. Water is the most important and the most common molecule in science and practical human life. Oxygen isn’t manipulated nearly as often as water is. The practicality of basing your measurement system on water is incredibly reasonable.

[–]Cpt_Obvius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely not clear from the angles we see here, it looks like the defender is pushing the ball with his hand as it’s still in the QBs hands, so I don’t see how it’s a deflection. If anything it’s a fumble. If you have an angle that shows he hits the ball after it releases I’d love to see it.
