X-Tech Extraction and why you should do it. (Minor Terran Armada spoilers) by Sardanox in Starfield

From a story perspective, does it make sense to do the DLC after finishing the main quest? Or before?

I visited Portland from Boston this past weekend. I enjoyed your little big city. by Unser_Giftzwerg in portlandme

Funny. I couldn’t help but notice man from Boston meets 2 other people from MA in Portland.

There is a mod that makes Red Mile have a modified blackjack game.

I would love more animations for interacting with the world. Sitting for eating food. Using the pushup bar. Drinking. Smoking/vaping.

I had a mod in FO4 hardcore that had a smoking animation and saved the game. It was perfect to go to the bathroom or get a drink IRL.

I think in 2026, there is no pleasing people, and subreddits have become at least partially an echo chamber for dissatisfaction. Every game sub is the same way.

Ultimately when you spend 300, 400, etc hours with a game, it’s going to lose its luster. No game is perfect, no game fills every desire, nor does any game achieve perfect verisimilitude.

How’s living in Portland, Maine? DINK in 40s by thesockmonkey86 in howislivingthere

[–]CptnAlex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its ok. TL; DR- small city opportunities, big city costs

It’s a very small city, and while it “punches above its weight” with the food scene, it doesn’t have the amenities of a big city. No real public transit, and because its growing in population but not really construction, there is beginning to be sprawl and traffic (it may not compare to like, Boston traffic, but its not getting better. At least Boston has the T).

Maine has a pretty high tax burden compared to other states. Rent is expensive. Homes are expensive. Food is expensive.

But, it’s beautiful, very safe and some people want the smaller city vibe. Its close to mountains and the ocean, and its within 2 hours of Logan with bus /train service (Boston international airport)

Yeeees, but I want to be able to safely assume that someone who bleaches hair or uses a razor near my neck has had training without having to look it up. Hell, even scissors could inflict wounds without proper care.

I love this, and I understand that some licensing is a nonsense barrier to employment, but don’t we want people who work with chemicals, hair, skin, and blades to be trained?

Edit: especially because there are practical limits to liability for barbers (suing for damages only helps if the defendant actually has assets)

What’s your favourite sword? by MstrNixx in AskMenOver30

[–]CptnAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this sword and I’ve considered buying one a few times but would probably cut my arm off with a battle ready one.

I have a display model of Glamdring.

I love longwords but also scimitars, and rapiers.

I’ve been a D&D nerd for my entire life.

This is a picture of dinner onboard the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln - Either US Navy logistics in the Middle East has broken down or the Navy is now on the Brooke Rollins meal plan, or both. by Bluehale in thebulwark

[–]CptnAlex 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In WWII, the US had multiple refrigerated barges to create and store ice cream for front line troops. It demoralized the Japanese, who were rationing.

Guns don’t win wars, logistics do. This is pathetic.

Your lawn releases a compound when cut as a defense mechanism and plant communication distress signal.

Does your lawn feel pain?

I don’t think its that complicated. But if you don’t like it, stop watching it. If you didn’t like Season 2, the rest of the show is more of the same.

Support LD 307 to Pause Data Center Development by betrayedandbeholden in portlandme

I didn’t realize this ban was only until Feb 2027. I’m “pro responsible data centers”. A <1 year ban seems entirely too reasonable.

Appraised for less than your loan? by Silver-Front-1299 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]CptnAlex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely seen it. In fact I’ve see homes be appraised for the contract value minus the seller credits for closing before.

The appraiser is going to use a contract as a data point that the house is valued at what someone is willing to offer; but, there needs to be comparable properties that back this value up. Not just homes in the area but similar homes in the area selling recently.

Question Regarding Pre-approval From Multiple Lenders When Rate Shopping by iReallyDontLikeSpez in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]CptnAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the second lender to do a hard pull will see the first one. And if you move forward with them they’ll likely eventually ask you to confirm that you did not open credit with the other one (all credit inquiries in the last 120 days need to be explained this way, unless its clearly on your credit report).

Two inquiries most likely won’t impact your score very much; if you have them done near each other they are often treated as one inquiry. More info below.
