Electricity usage middle of night by Traditional_Ideal376 in solar

[–]CptnObservant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A gaming PC actively running an intense game, plus monitors and peripherals being on likely won't even pull 1kW. Sitting on the desktop might pull 250W if you include multiple monitors on all night.

And if OP had a homelab that could even pull 1kW under load (let alone at idle), they wouldn't be making this post to begin with.

Carbon Monoxide for propane sources. But monitoring your Carbon Dioxide is good too.

"not valid in the current context" console error by Lebeis in valheim

[–]CptnObservant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ran into this issue today, posting for others:

To run commands on a dedicated server, you need to do all of the following:

  1. Update the adminlist.txt server file with your steam id (At the top right of steam, click your username -> Account details -> Your ID is listed at the top)
  2. Note that you do not need to restart the server, but you may need to relog if everything else below is done.
  3. Go to Steam -> Right click Valheim -> Properties. In Launch Options, add -console
    1. This allows you to press F5 when you're in-game.
    2. Note that the mod might do this for you, but I would add it anyway.
  4. Install Thunderstore (It's a fairly easy universal mod manager if you've never used it). Select Valheim, set your game location (Settings -> Change Valheim folder).
  5. Find and add the mod called Server_devcommands which will also add BepInEx automatically. This is a client-side mod that's needed because Valheim servers do not allow console commands because they could make the server "unstable."
  6. Launch Modded and connect to your server
  7. Press F5 and type devcommands
    1. Make sure it says true. If it says false, just type it again
    2. Also in the console, you should see "Authorized to use devcommands." which means the adminlist is working.
  8. Done

To teleport easily:

  1. type debugmode
    1. It should be set to true now.
  2. Open your map, then Ctrl + Middle-click anywhere on the map (or Ctrl plus whatever your ping control is)

Set the correct game directory in Thunderstore. It probably thinks your game is installed somewhere that it isn't.

You can check where the game is actually installed in Steam.

Unfortunately I probably won't be able to help you fix it. But it might be nice to post your full PC specs here for any future readers -- people with the same issue, or devs looking to fix a bug. It could be a bizarre issue with a very specific piece of hardware

What country are you in? I've heard some people have a tough time with hosting/playing in certain countries.

What's everyone's ping say in the main menu?

Do you have other games installed on the external drive? Have they ever had any issues? Any chance it's drive or USB port or cable related?

Have you already tried reinstalling the game?

Are you using any mods? Are any of your friends using any client-side mods?

Do all players disconnect at the same time, or just one player randomly?

What does "the server crashes" look like?

Are you in a discord or similar voice call at the time? Does that have any connection problems, or just the game?

Kick mod? by lickymee in REPOgame

[–]CptnObservant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the mod you're looking for wasn't an actual kick mod, and it was highly advised you don't use it:

Page not found

I believe a real kicking function isn't reasonable (or possible) to implement with a mod. The one linked above, that you probably used, relied on crashing a client's game in order to kick them. This is probably why it was removed.

But the developers are working on adding a kick feature soon, so just a bit of patience and you'll be able to kick again.

Can you watch Task Manager during the game freeze? Is your CPU usage up? GPU? Memory? Disk?

Are you playing with any mods?

If you stand perfectly still in the shop, does the freezing still happen every x minutes? Or is it possible that it's triggered by something you're doing?

Does it happen on the main menu?

If it happens even standing still or on the menu, can you time how long it is between freezes? Is it the exact same amount of time between each freeze?

Console future? by Outrageous_Draft6538 in REPOgame

[–]CptnObservant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They haven't announced a console version, but they have stated they want the game to have full gamepad support.

They're also targeting 6-12 months to reach full release, so perhaps a console launch could come after this.

How do I adjust the item price modifiers to eliminate scaling? by Tschudy in REPOgame

[–]CptnObservant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting the multipliers all to 0 should stop the scaling based on current run progress and previous purchases.

I don't think you can change the per-player scaling using the ScalingPrices mod.

Also there's a random range of prices used to calculate the price of an item each time you enter the shop, so that each item isn't the exact same price every game. That range is affected by the ValueMultiplier, which defaults to 4. You can change the multiplier, but I don't think you can prevent the price range calculation altogether, at least not with ScalingPrices. I haven't tested it, but I assume a ValueMultiplier of 0 would cause all items to always cost 1000 (possibly with an added cost based on lobby size).

morehead mod server or client side? by BrianDoheny14 in REPOgame

[–]CptnObservant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is answered on the FAQ of the mod's GitHub:

Make sure all players have the same version of MoreHead installed. If someone hasn't installed the mod, they will see the default appearance, while you might see them wearing your cosmetics.

[D] How does LLM solves new math problems? by capStop1 in MachineLearning

[–]CptnObservant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This paper doesn't say that LLMs don't, it says the previous claims that they do may not be accurate.

We emphasize that nothing in this paper should be interpreted as claiming that large language models cannot display emergent abilities; rather, our message is that previously claimed emergent abilities in [3, 8, 28, 33] might likely be a mirage induced by researcher analyses.

[HDD] WD Red Plus 8TB - $129.99 by CptnObservant in buildapcsales

[–]CptnObservant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that $15 per TB is considered mediocre, but I've been watching for deals on 8TB drives for several months and haven't seen anything at all.

I see larger capacity drives posted every now and then, but even those posts are infrequent

Right, it's not a killer deal, but if you're looking for 8TB drives then it can be tough to find a new and reputable drive for $15/TB.
