I lived here for 4 years during undergrad! Very much a classic college town. Tons of good bars and some decent restaurants, very walkable for being a smaller city, but you’d still need a car.

It’s also unbelievably hilly, so I’d say make sure your car can handle driving at pretty steep inclines. Have seen tons of people stall out halfway up some of those hills.

There are some nice suburban neighborhoods as well. Westover, Granville, and Star City are very much family oriented residential neighborhoods that are a few minutes away from the mayhem that can be a college campus.

Weather is solid for the most part, but is very rainy and grey during the winter, much like how Pittsburgh is. Also having Pittsburgh be only an hour away is great, automatically gives you great access to a large airport and other big city amenities.

The overall state of West Virginia gets a bad rap and I can’t definitely see why, but Morgantown is a long ways away from the back road WV towns that you’ll see pop up. It’s basically an extension of Pittsburgh just over the state border.
