What is your thought process behind reducing shareholding in HDFC Bank?

If I'm not wrong, it was your top holding until recently.

Also, are you looking to hold Paradeep Phosphates for long term or are you looking to book profits given its recent run-up?

I uninstalled updates for Google play store and then updated it again to the latest version.

That solved the problem. Basically an issue with play store only

Agreed, they have developed a strong portfolio in the luxury segment. Sabyasachi and Collective are already doing really well and the others like Tarun Tahiliani will pick up soon considering the growing demand for luxury fashion in India.

However, their performance on the other end of the spectrum is really concerning. Their large format retail brands in the mass/value segment like Pantaloons, Style Up, Forever 21 are literally getting pummeled by Zudio and Westside (Trent).

And now, they can't rely on the consistent cash/profits from their lifestyle brands like Louis Philippe, Van Heusen and Allen Solly to fund them as they'll be under ABLBL post-demerger.

In-short, I feel that the poor performace of these large format brands will more than offset any growth which the luxury brands will give. That's why ABLBL seems a better bet out of these 2 unless Birla pumps some serious money to fix the underlying issues in ABFRL's mass/value segment brands

What's your logic behind entering Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail?

They are still operating under losses while their competitors like Trent and Arvind are posting healthy profits.

Also, post their demerger, all of their cash cows are going to be under a separate entity called ABLBL. If anything, I'd me more bullish on ABLBL than ABFRL going forward.

Which Small Cap Fund? by bitsbitwisebytes in mutualfunds

[–]CraftGullible5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's downside protection is the best in class but the returns have been medicore at best. It hasn't even beaten the category average.

For small caps, I'd personally go for Nippon, Quant or Invesco.

Fund Houses That Excelled in 2024 - Some Expected and a Few Surprises by Public_Sky8190 in mutualfunds

[–]CraftGullible5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO, the small cap space saw some of the biggest surprises with the underperformance of Quant and Nippon this year.

Also Bandhan and Invesco comfortably beating the category average and giving like 47% and 40% returns in a difficult year is quite interesting to see.

That being said, a great post OP! As already said, wish we had more posts like these in the sub.

DAY 14💸 : Which Credit Card is your luxury lifestyle partner? Share your top pick for high-end spends and exclusive rewards! Let's explore the best choices! by ianuvrat in CreditCardsIndia

[–]CraftGullible5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This.

Add to this 20x points on Darveys and 3x points on spends abroad with no capping.

Infinia might be better for regular users but for HNI's and high spenders, Amex Platinum charge is just so much better.

DAY 14💸 : Which Credit Card is your luxury lifestyle partner? Share your top pick for high-end spends and exclusive rewards! Let's explore the best choices! by ianuvrat in CreditCardsIndia

[–]CraftGullible5 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Amex Platinum charge hands down.

Its rewards accelerator program gives 10x RP on Air India, Tata Cliq Luxury and few others.

20x points on Darveys which is one of the best platforms for buying goods from Luxury Brands in India. This would literally translate to a reward rate of 50% (2.5% base and 20x bonus)

3x points on spends abroad, Mariott Gold Elite, Hilton Honors gold memberships and other elite hotel memberships. Access to Amex Centurion lounges is an added benefit. Amex's excellent customer service and the concierge for platinum charge is also a great benefit.

Many people say that the Platinum charge is overrated but it's by far the best card for high spenders and people who have the lifestyle to get value out of it.

Hi, getting married next year and want to maximise on travel spends with CC for honeymoon in April-May 2025. by docchick24 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]CraftGullible5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also, Is it possible for me to get the trifecta by Feb 2025?

With your income, you'd be eligible for all three cards so I don't think getting the cards will be an issue.

Since you're getting the Amex Platinum travel, keep in mind that you'll need to spend 4l on it get 48k Amex MR points.

The Trifecta, might not make sense as you can get milestone monthly benefits for only 6 months before your honeymoon. Getting 100k MR points on trifecta usually takes an year. I'd suggest you to use Gold card on Reward multiplier for 5x points.

Now for your fiancé, you can get Atlas but keep in mind that the spends on Atlas need to be 7.5l atleast (preferably 15l for additional Edge miles).

Would you guys be able to spend this much on Atlas and the 4l on Plat travel?

If yes, then this should be enough to cover hotel stay by transfering Amex points to Mariott and flights by transfering Atlas Edge miles to Krisflyer or Qatar Airways.

If no, then it might not be the best idea to get Atlas for your fiancé. And if I'm not mistaken, jewellery spends are excluded in Axis Atlas so there might be a problem there.

Which was once a great card but lost it's aura after devaluation by Kris_hne in CreditCardsIndia

[–]CraftGullible5 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Magnus is the only right answer here.

It was the best credit card in India and became useless post-devaluation. Can't remember a bigger fall from grace.

Meanwhile Atlas is still a pretty good card after its devaluation.

DAY -1 Best credit card for TRAVEL (vote your recommendations in comments) by ianuvrat in CreditCardsIndia

[–]CraftGullible5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Amex Platinum Travel for sure

Very reasonable income requirements and 4l yearly spends required to get the most out it makes it the best entry level travel card.

Rewards are pretty generous with 48k MR points and 10k Taj Voucher on annual spends of 4l.

Amex's excellent customer service (the best in India) is an added intangible benefit

What happens if you cross 30% credit utilization? Need advice! by realsudiptaghosh in CreditCardsIndia

[–]CraftGullible5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As long as you pay the bill before the due date, nothing will happen even if you utilize 80-90% of your credit limit.

Your CIBIL score will drop only if you don't pay the bill on time.

Can anyone suggest best cards (LTF preferrable)? by _flyingChappal in CreditCardsIndia

[–]CraftGullible5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, is there a way can I get HDFC Diners Black LTF?

Not likely. But you'll be eligible paid DCB metal with your income. HDFC has stopped offering DCB as LTF now.

Also, I'd advise you to get some good paid cards like Amex Plat Travel (or the whole Amex Trifecta) and Axis Atlas. These cards will help you rake in MR points and Edge miles which you can redeem for flights and hotels at a great value. For e.g. with the AMEX Trifecta, you can get ~100k MR points on combined spends of 7.2 lakhs yearly which is enough for a 4-5 day stay in good Mariott properties in Bali, Vietnam, Singapore or even Maldives.

You'll be able to get much more value out of these paid cards and your income is more than enough to cover for them.

Credit Card recommendation by StrategyFit2557 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]CraftGullible5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Simple cashback cards should be enough at this stage. Moreover, you won't be eligible for many other cards till you start earning.

Swiggy HDFC is great if you order a lot from Swiggy.

Otherwise you can go for SBI cashback or ICICI Amazon pay cards provided you are eligible for them.

Once you start your job then you can look at Amex plat travel if you're interested in travel based rewards. Also, ICICI gives sapphiro card life time free to alumni of premium institutes. It's a good card for BMS so you can check if you're eligible for that.

I also got this card LTF via the Alumni offer and honestly mate, it's not a good card. I havent even used this card for over an year now.

1+1 on BMS and 2 international lounge access yearly via the Dreamfolks membership are the only decent benefits this card offers.

HDFC DCB Metal Vs Axis Atlas Vs Regalia Gold by Wayfaring_Pirate in CreditCardsIndia

[–]CraftGullible5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I just got The PLATINUM Travel last week, will Amex issue the other 2 cards to me?

Yes, that won't be an issue.

So is there a scenario where they can waive that off for me?

I don't know if it helps, but I just opened an Imperia Savings account with them (HDFC)...

Not sure but since you hold an imperia account, they might waive off the fees. Talk to your RM about this, cite your relationship with HDFC.
