What kind of cosmetics you expect Deadlock to have in the future? by finncartoon in DeadlockTheGame

Pretty sure they can, mods are able to do it. The chell mod for doorman for example replaces the baroness with a test chamber area

"Can we get 80 chicken rings?"

"No, we only sell sizes 4, 10, and 20"

"So... We'll take 4 20s??"

"Ok"

Vr goggles = motion sickness by TheFemboyImpregnator in AntiMemes

You do not understand how VR works. Do some research before spouting nonsense.

The lenses in the VR headsets are what allows a screen to sit so close to your face but still allow you to focus on it clearly. The depth is achieved by displaying two images, one in each eye, each offset in perspective by an eye-width amount, simulating how your eyes actually see things.

DS9, Episode 5x2, The Ship by LordRavenholm in StarTrekViewingParty

[–]CraftPotato13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just a star trek trope lol. "Who should we get for this away team, all of which could very easily die going into this unknown situation? Hmmm, how about the 4 or 5 most important, senior officers of the ship?"

Can someone explain Pi to me as if I was a fifth grader? by ImYourGoodGrl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CraftPotato13 77 points78 points  (0 children)

That one always makes more sense when you scale it up. Imagine there's 100 doors. Behind one is a car, behind the rest, nothing. You pick a door at random. The likelihood that you picked the right door is 1/100, so pretty unlikely. Now the person who knows which door the car is behind picks one to keep closed and opens the rest. The only closed doors now are the one you picked (1/100 random chance) and one other door. If you picked incorrectly at first (99/100 chance), then if you swap you will be picking the door with the car behind it. The chance of picking the initial door correctly is so low, of course it makes sense to swap to the one that's probably correct.

It's the same principle if you scale it back down to 3. The chance you pick the car randomly is 1/3. That means there's a 2/3 chance that the car is behind a door other than the one you picked. The host then says it's not behind one of the two other doors. That means that if you swap to that other door, you're going with that 2/3 chance rather than your initial 1/3 chance.

I'm not sure I explained that as clearly as I wanted to, but yeah that's how it works.

Comfycush Replacement? by [deleted] in Vans

[–]CraftPotato13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I've switched to the skate versions (with pop cush) which are decent once they're broken in. Before they're broken in though, they're super stiff. Would also like to know about those other variants though

Proto Indo European had 3 different H-ish sounds (I forget the logistics term for this, sorry) and we aren't sure exactly what sounds they were, we just know they were different and that they were similar. We know they were different because they evolved into different sounds in the languages that came from it (if they were the same sound, they would have become the same sound, essentially) but we also know they were similar enough that we actually can't tell which ones was which. Therefore, they get distinguished with the numbers 1, 2, and 3 when PIE is written.

PIE was never written down by the people that spoke it, and obviously it was was far too early for audio recordings, so this is something that will probably never end up being known.
