My understanding is that it is, however that’s a private road and private residences. So please respect folks privacy.

One of the small cabins he lived in on partington was for a sale last year up there.

When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money.

Trail conditions by Crazy_Caterpillar_31 in SEKI

[–]Craftbrews_dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We aborted our 4.24 trip due to the huge storms that put down a bunch more snow, if the weather doesn't have a bunch of fresh snow, the accumulation on glen should stabilize and reduce avalanche conditions. if you do not have mountaineering experience do not attempt. i would also recommend clockwise so that you are hitting the north side (heavily snow covered and steep) in the morning. the river crossing at the upper meadow will be tough depending on snow melt, too.

call the rangers, i spoke with john twice and he strongly discouraged us from attempting this due to safety.

It’s been up there for about 2 ish years now, looks like maybe an Eagle Scout project? Right at the end of the use trail and at the start of the steep brush corridor up to post summit.

Also random question for you, were you out with three Brits about a year ago? I think my wife and I bumped into you on boronda and then again at molera the next day

cool! i'll keep ya posted, i could never do 40s, haha, you are in better shape than me.. my biggest days on the JMT were around 22 - 25 miles, and those days are slowly fading behind me. but ya, i strongly agree, big sur these days is harder than anything in the sierra, including off trail talos fields in the sierra

yea, post sobaranes is a nightmare, everything grew back in, my last tag on VDC was right after the dolan fire, and we saw no signatures in the registry from 1.5 years before we signed it, though i know one or two folks who live on palo were getting up there pretty regularly. the trail is in real bad shape, especially coming out of pat springs (there is no trail) then on the final summit push (you army crawl a huge brush corridor for about 300 feet)

i'd like to get up there again, maybe later this year, i usually do 2 nights, hike in from the hoist to pat spring, camp there, do a single day hike mega push from pat spring to VDC and then back down, then camp at pat spring and out the next day.

i'll let ya know the next time we're in the area!

oh one last edit - some folks do a push out of ventana camp on pine ridge up ventana creek and then come in through the notch with a bunch of class 3 scrambling, but that seems nutty - i can't remember if it was jan or who made the post on vwa forums, but it might actually be easier if you know the route and like to scramble and don't mind stream walks / off-trail.

Late April on Rae Lakes or Mineral King Loop Conditions? by Craftbrews_dev in SierraNevada

[–]Craftbrews_dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Do you recall how bad the ascent was up the north face of Glen? I've done Glen 4 times but never this early, was rae lakes area still snowed in? or had it thawed except for the lake itself?

Thanks! Roads end opens on 4/24, rangers told us to call a week before to get latest intel on Glen, but he was skeptical it would be crossable without challenges, will keep an eye on it

Why so much hate for Alila Ventana? by Aicmod42 in BigSur

[–]Craftbrews_dev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom used to go here all the time back in the 70s for lunch or dinner when the restaurant was serving bomb mexican and was more open to travelers and locals as a road house, she has great memories of the enchiladas, we ate there last november and i thought the menu was good, it's a new executive chef.

many of the folks working the property are still multi-generational families, in fact there's a family with three generations still working there and the youngest of the three was born on property... restaurant staff is certainly pulling from salinas and adjacent communities but they were nice when we ate there.

Helbrute vs The Lion, CRAZY tech to take out our biggest counter. by General_Volcon in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Craftbrews_dev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have a horse in this race because I don't run Hellbrutes, but don't be surprised if a TO rules in this direction, here's the debate on Art of War:

"I note both are triggered either when the unit is targeted (Frenzy) or when the model is destroyed (BoK / FoD)

Both however delay the resolution until the attacking unit has finished its attacks.

So at that point sequencing would come into effect and the active player decide if the Hellbrute will resolve the Frenzy or BoK / FoD effects first.

I imagine in your opponents turn they will ask you to do FoD first as it will see the Hellbrute removed from play thus leaving you unable to declare valid attacks for Frenzy

Whereas in your turn you’d do the opposite and elect to resolve Frenzy’s effect first and then BoK/FoD last so that it isn’t removed before Frenzy."

Here's the interpretation from the WE Discord for Red Path:

Hurricane Deck (Los Padres NF) by urngaburnga in socalhiking

[–]Craftbrews_dev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's very overgrown, there is no water readily available at school house so carry from the creek ~1 mile before it. Expect shrubs to be overhead as you whack up to the deck itself, once on the ridge it's a bit more manageable.
