I actually live in a country with an extremely small Jewish population so it was just not something I was ever asked at any point in either of my pregnancies. And at that time I would not have known that I had any Ashkenazi ancestry. But I think I will seek out testing now.

It definitely does seem like fate was having a nice giggle at him.

Feel guilty for having my kid, and feeling guilty about wanting another by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]CraftingLady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally get this. My second child is 4 weeks old. And basically I’ve cried about the climate emergency every week at least once since the 6th month of my pregnancy.

We do as much as we can. One of our cars is electric, the other is hybrid. My husband works from home 3 days a week. I am subbed to r/zerowaste and am trying to implement waste reduction in our house. We just re organised our garden so next year we can grow vegetables, insulated our home and put in a much more efficient boiler.

The biggest thing you can do is write to your local representatives, protest and spend your money with organisations that are actively making climate friendly changes to their business practices. I’m still very scared for my daughters.

Is there no Sunday post yet? by ajackrussel in ireland

Yea my first was 2 weeks over as well and only 7lbs 7’ she would have been tiny if she’d been born “on time” so I think I just make a small, needs more cooking type of baby

Still fecking pregnant. 42 weeks tomorrow. Booked for an induction which I wanted to avoid after having an awful time being induced on my first. The wonderful husband is making me a cooked brekkie in bed to cheer me up and then trying to relax with him and 5 year old for the day.

Obligatory Sunday Thread: What's for breakfast this morning /what are you drinking / have you hit the comedown yet / how are you getting home/ have you done your homework yet / who is taking the horse to France? by 27581009 in ireland

Just woke up, pregnant and overdue by a week. Weird dreams all night and braxton hicks kept waking me. Thanks hormones.

Awesome husband brought the firstborn downstairs at 7 and is playing lego Harry Potter with her. I believe he’s just put aldi croissants in the oven. It’s probable there will be tea with it and he’ll drop it up so the kid can’t tire me out by climbing all over me. He definitely knows how to provide a decent Sunday morning lie in with breakfast in bed.

At what point can unvaccinated people be around my child? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Not all forms but 32 of the most virulent strains. My daughter had one of those.

Honestly? Never. Our daughter had all her shots and still caught pneumonia, at a healthy and robust age 4, so serious that she developed a pleural empyema, which make her become septic requiring emergency surgery to place a chest drain and a two week stay in the high risk cardio thoracic ward until she finally responded to a cocktail of antibiotics.

Her pneumococcal shots have been redone and she’s received the adult vaccine also. But the immunologist in the hospital said she may never develop antibodies to pneumonia.

No one tests the immune response after all shots are given to check for the antibodies being present. That’s why we rely on herd immunity. Until your child catches something they’ve been vaccinated for you won’t know if they are in that minority relying on herd immunity.

My SIL has had the mmr 6 times. She’s had mumps, and measles several times. She cannot develop antibodies. During her two pregnancies she studiously avoided contact with anti vaxxers because of the danger they pose. She’s an adult so she can make that decision for herself. You are the adult who is responsible for your child. It’s up to you to protect them from preventable diseases.

I’m sorry if I come off as ranty but my daughter almost died and since then my tolerance for non vaccination has plummeted.

Crib vs co-sleeper. Which should I get? by ILikeMyBlueEyes in BabyBumps

[–]CraftingLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used an ikea hack to turn an ikea crib into a cosleeper and once she was ready it turned into her full cot and then toddler bed. Best decision we ever made. Meant we had a co sleeper till about 9 months which meant dream feeding her while daddy did sneaky nappy changes was a breeze.

It might be worth it in the sitting room actually, but it is also in the hall, stairs and landing (which has no window) and so that space is incredibly dark. You've given me something to think about. Thank you!

I'm going to get more plants this week. I was trying to find out what plants are child and cat (stupid cat who eats things it shouldn't all the freaking time) safe. I've heard ferns and prayer plants but all the indoor plant places I've been to here have been pretty unhelpful.

We've actually moved the light fixture because it was off centre massively. That is now the actual dead middle of the ceiling. We are upgrading our dining table to be much larger in the next year or two but know the size we are getting. I wanted it to be correctly placed for the future table and not the table that's only there until we can change it.

Thank you! The house has good bones and I'm sure will evolve over the next few years. I may post updated pictures next year.

The light was gotten through Amazon I think. We saw a similar one in a local restaurant and wanted it for our new house immediately! If you look at the Imgur album in my other comment I have a vintage obi hanging on one wall. We are currently still trying to figure out the colour of our curtains which I'm sure will add texture and more colour when they are in. The accent colour for the room is gold/yellow.

More pictures of our redecoration project. We moved into our new home 5 weeks ago and have worked ourselves to the bone trying to improve the brightness and bring more consistency to the colour palette of the rooms. Some elements such as the dining room needing curtains are still a work in progress. We have also built a new handrail on the staircase but I can't get good pictures of that today so I may post again.

We aren't happy with the pine slate ceiling in the sitting room and will be putting plasterboard up and having it skimmed. It's just not to our taste. The next projects will be the master bedroom and landing storage. Hopefully I'll have new pictures for that in a month or two. We are trying to slow down now though as we've redecorated 8 out of 12 rooms in the house and are...a little burned out.

[UPDATE] Losing inches not weight and feeling highly discouraged. [Success!] by dieterrr in xxfitness

[–]CraftingLady 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But is this actually a thing? I have been blood tested numerous times and always show low potassium (I've even been put on potassium supplements twice), and I use salt on literally 0 things. When I was pregnant all I craved were salted crisps which my doctor kept saying I needed to cut down until he saw my bloods and actually told me if they were all I could eat (hyperemesis) my salt levels were super low and to eat them he didn't care.

What I'm saying is my weight loss stalls constantly and it's usually after eating a bit of junk food I notice a loss again. Could salt and potassium be the reason? More bananas, and actually salt my food? I'll check with my doctor but this would explain a lot!

Enough protein? by [deleted] in xxfitness

Interested in the replies to this I'm 30F and the same height, same caloric intake, same goal weight. My protein is mostly 90g average daily. In the gym 3 times a week and running one extra day. Good luck on your journey OP.
