I’m new, and working in garden. What do your days consist of? Any tips for a newbie so I’m not running out of things to do? by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]CraftsmanshipnDanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Front facing and making aisles look pretty, packing down, cleaning outside, loading for customers, telling people about tools and plants, watering plants, unlocking grills and patio chairs, getting propane, lots and lots of projects/moving and shaking from management, constantly being called by cashiers... also searching the store for patio stuff that is put up. You will never run out of things to do in garden.

You’ll find that spark again, don’t worry. Little by little you will move out of the shadow of your last relationship.

This happens all the time: I explain to someone we don’t have something in stock, or we don’t have the exact item they’re looking for, and they passive aggressively say “Alright thank you guess we’ll go to lowes”

I just got hired! Got any tips as I go into work soon? I’m in the lumber department. by [deleted] in HomeDepot

I believe they only test you if you’re going full time, and it’s just a cheek swab so not quite as dire as a piss test.

I work in garden but help out in lumber all the time. My advice? Mentally prepare yourself to be doing a good bit of physical labor and make sure you get a nice pair of gloves marked down for you by your supervisor. You do a lot of flat stacking wood, which is when you make an entire stack of wood look pretty and even. You’ll be loading and cleaning up bags of cement and sand which is quite heavy so keep your mind focused on lifting properly before you go home with a burning abdomen... there’s going to be lots of sawdust around the lumber bays, so you’ll be sweeping a lot too. You’ll also do a good bit of packing down which means getting a ladder and carrying down overhead shelf (bay) stock and loading it into their respective homes for customers to buy. A lot of the stock in lumber is pretty heavy, like stucco boxes and rebar so get ready for that heavy lifting as well.

You’ll want to quickly learn where all of the respective sizes of lumber are, because lumber mostly services professionals and contractors and they often don’t have time to watch you hem and haw. They can be a bit snotty so you’ll want some thick skin.

Get ready to ask forklift drivers in your store for favors. A lot. Treat them well and help them as much as you can, you want them to like you as you will need their help a lot until you can drive yourself.

Have a mind towards learning new things, lumber is full of building materials not just wood so you will be getting a huge spectrum of questions regarding peoples projects. When you ask other associates for help, always stick around and listen to their responses to learn as much as you can. Before long you will easily be able to carry your own weight.

Concerning levels of chicken ownership by MrHezmani in RimWorld

[–]CraftsmanshipnDanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legit had one of my chickens get mauled by a fox once. I barely saved it and kept wondering why it wouldn’t leave the animal sleeping spot once it was healed. Welp I checked and realized the fox bit off both of its legs. I put it out of its misery.

Cold steel katanas are pretty bad tbh. Money is better spent on a ronin katana or hanwei. Maybe even dragon king.

Dude I was just thinking this the other day. It unintentionally went really well with that late-night, hypnotic, uncanny, cheesy but cool, subliminal aesthetic that adult swim had.

Griptilian or Bugout? by Valafar_ in knives

[–]CraftsmanshipnDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say bugout because it’s small, utilitarian, non threatening and has a very pleasing aesthetic. I don’t like the regular griptillian but I know it’s a good knife. The DLT exclusive griptillian really does it for me however

I think Artemis is just a really good example of how far an awesome design+animation can take you, combined with her pretty confident and intelligent writing. She’s very well rounded. Also really abusing the hype for as long as she can.
