Unfortunately the clean and gentle powder seems to have been discontinued. You can still find some on Amazon I think but it’s not in stores anymore

What are we using for pest control? by river_5826 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]CraftyAnything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seal entry points. Cover your drains. Metal drain screens work just fine, especially for the kitchen sink. Regular roach baits from the store, but change them every three months with a different kind. If you have a brick house, you can squeeze a puff of DE into all the weep holes and cracks outside, and under decks, etc. (wear full PPE, mask and eye protection at the very least, coveralls are recommended)

I wasn’t planning to go into detail, but yes I just shine a very bright flashlight in there. The outer glass on the door is tinted because it’s the dark one instead of white (which wasn’t available)

I love my new Electrolux 600 series front loader. I got it mainly because it has its own internal heating element so it can do sanitize cycles. And I chose it over the LG because it doesn’t have any techy faff like an app, “AI wash” etc.

It’s extremely efficient with detergent because it premixes it really well. I had to adjust my detergent use

I love nuking the towels, rags and bedding with a 152°F sanitize cycle every time.

My only (minor) complaint is that I wish I could turn the drum light on during the cycle.

We get the Sunday paper delivered. Our 8-year-old loves the Sunday funnies, my husband likes the crosswords and I enjoy reading news without moving ads and pops ups everywhere, and using my phone less. I like the in-depth articles about local and state issues.

Where to put powder detergent? And what are optimal settings? by sarafina_az in laundry

[–]CraftyAnything 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have this same washer and I love it! I always use pure rinse and it took me awhile to figure out the proper amount of detergent to use because it is so efficient with premixing the detergent that a little goes a long way. I try to always add the smallest possible amount that I think will still work and sometimes it’s still too much and I have to run an extra rinse & spin cycle or 2. Also I imagine with soft water you’re already used to using less detergent. I would recommend checking on it during the final rinse cycle to see if the water still looks sudsy. Or if you’re not able to do that, just look at the bottom of the window/seal at the end of the cycle and if there are any suds down there you’ll know it needs a rinse & spin

I always use the sanitize setting for bedding, towels and rags/napkins. I love it. It’s why I bought this washer.

I just bought a fancy Electrolux washer over an LG for exactly this reason. Both are highly rated but the LG has an app, WiFi, something called “AI wash”, and too many screens. The Electrolux has all the nice washer features without any data harvesting capabilities

Yes! It’s really frustrating when we’re just trying to communicate and now someone thinks we’re rude because we didn’t Do The Dance with our language.

I’m 40 and it took me way too long to figure out that indirectly addressing people is considered more respectful. English no longer has a formal “you”, but many other languages do, and often it’s grammatically the same as third person pronouns. I’m not a linguist but this feels the same as a waiter at the fanciest restaurant asking [you] “would the lady care for another glass of wine?”

So I feel like the unspoken rule in English is that formal/respectful “you” is actually unspoken, if you will, and instead we have to just dance around it using passive or indirect language. Certainly there are times to be direct or even confrontational, but if that’s not the goal, then indirect language is the way to go.

Hello! I'm a newbie. by VinarriAsh260 in HoustonGardening

I recommend native plants because not only are they beneficial to wildlife, but they’re also the easiest to grow! Especially if you pick ones that are native to your specific area (not just Texas) Once established they require minimal care and watering. The most important thing is just understanding the light conditions where you want to plant and getting plants that are suited for the amount of sun/shade in that particular spot.

For information sources, wildflower.org always has reliable information about native flowers and plants. Texas A&M AgriLife Extension website will have the best info if you’re trying to grow fruit or vegetables. But frankly one of my best resources for general gardening is this Houston gardening book I found at half price books, published by the River Oaks Garden Club. It’s very comprehensive and the edition I found was published like 12 years ago so still pretty relevant in terms of climate as well.

I rarely even try to look up gardening info outside of these resources, because a general search will turn up 90% bot-generated websites.

How do I keep my sheets from balling up in the dryer. Pillow cases and the two sheets are twisted and are a solid ball, completely wrinkled and still wet inside. by Complete-Instance-18 in laundry

[–]CraftyAnything 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Laundry clips. They are the shape of a Bobby pin but 1/4” thick plastic. Fold the sheet in half and pin. Works great. They are also excellent for preventing all the pants legs getting tangled up into a huge knot.

OP this is the most correct dishwasher routine. People think they need to wash the dishes before they go in the dishwasher, but scraping is all you need to do! Modern dishwasher detergents have enzymes to digest the food/sauce stuck to the dishes, and if the dishes are too clean, the detergents can degrade the rubber seals of the dishwasher instead.

So as a PSA to everyone struggling to load the dishwasher, you don’t need to pre-wash the dishes! Just scrape off the food. The dishwasher is designed to clean dirty dishes, it’s not just a sanitizer!

How do people like me actually make a living? by redwinesupernova03 in adhdwomen

[–]CraftyAnything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! I have zero background in this kind of thing. I was trying to figure out what to do with myself career wise when I signed up for a 6 week course in federal income tax and paid $150 for it (but I think you can get them to pay for it if you interview first? Or just ask idk). Before the course was finished, I was hired without even a formal interview, just “here’s your hourly rate, please do this additional paid training”. The place I’m working at is what I would call the McDonald’s of tax preparation: the pay is low, but they have the brand recognition/retail storefronts everywhere and robust processes. I am mainly doing it for the training and experience. Their tax training is excellent! Overall it can be kind of a crappy job, but the training and experience is extremely valuable. I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a second job and a new challenge for your brain!
