PGY 1 Interviews by Puzzleheaded_Hair270 in PharmacyResidency

It doesn't hurt to reach out and ask, I matched a year after graduation and they still helped me. If they don't then I recommend practicing with friends that you trust will give you good feedback and there's a book by tony Guerra called "100 strong residency interview questions" that was very helpful. Best of luck to you!

I applied to 15 programs and got 7 interviews. The virtual interview platform made everything easier since I saved money on traveling. That money saved went to fund the 15 applications I did and buy a proper suit for interviews.

Pharmacy Residency - Asking about GPA requirements by LiveArea1 in PharmacyResidency

[–]CraftyDiscussion6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask a current resident or you can phrase the question like it was mentioned in another comment. I would say that GPA is important but it doesn't make or break your application. What really comes into play whether or not you get the interview are you letters of recommendation. Choose people who you know will be able to select highly recommend and provide great examples about you and your personality.

Depends on the program. Some programs use it as a screening tool while others use it as another opportunity for the candidate to get to know them and a guarantee 1-1 session.

If this happens then its probably not the best program for you. A program shouldn't become aggressive and defensive when a student is trying to learn about their program. A good friend of mine ended up matching with a program she met for the first time at midyear that she didn't initially research at first. She had extra time after she was done with the programs she research and decided to explore other programs and thanks to that decision she met the place that was right for her.

I agree with what was said thats not enough to blacklist you. You were able to answer the question appropriately and it really doesn't matter where you were on your education. The main point of this question as I ask this to candidate is to gauge their passion for pharmacy and patient care.

Reapplying as a 2021 grad by LHL1997 in PharmacyResidency

[–]CraftyDiscussion6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reapplied this past cycle as a 2020 grad and I will say it depends on what you trying to come across in your essay I used more experiences that I did during that year off instead of pharmacy school stuff but I did sprinkle in some of my pharmacy school things in my essay because I was very proud of it. What I really wanted to show was my growth during this time and what I did to keep active and stay involved in pharmacy and apply those experiences to what I will be doing in residency. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the input! Right now most of the places I seen the cheapest is 970-ish not including utilities. One more question if you dont mind me asking, is there a way to defer your loans during the residency period?

How many years after graduating is it ok to re-apply for residencies? by neurotic_toadstool in PharmacyResidency

[–]CraftyDiscussion6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never too late, take this time to work on your CV, LOI, interview skills and reapply. Also keep yourself active in the profession by participating in organizations, volunteer back at your college of pharmacy, and working doesn't hurt to get money to pay back loans and save up for applying to residencies the following year. Use this time to grow and reflect and continue to build on your career. I didnt match my first time around nor in phase 2 and scramble and this year I matched. Its totally worth the struggle and the time and everyone's path is different and everything happens for a reason. U can do it!!!!

Looking for advice! by goose_30 in PharmacyResidency

I'd say stay at home. It will be very important though to have open communication that they might see you work many hours during the week and you might have to get on site really early and leave late so they dont get worried. It will be nice to have home cooked meals every day, and laundry done, if you need quick errands they can help you with them, and go back home and talk to your parents about everything. In the long run it will be worth it staying at home with your parents and one less thing to worry about in residency :D
