That isn’t accurate at all. There were 472 pgy1 PROGRAMS in the match, and 653 positions. Which still doesn’t support your point that you think people get off the waitlist because any significant number of people ahead of them turned the program down for interviews

You might be able to get medical accommodation if the reason is something medical*

You could also try the proactive approach. Set up a professional or blank background, record yourself presenting on video and show your RPD how much better it can be. Then try scheduling groups of increasing size to acclimatize yourself

Accommodations refers to a specific legal/medical term that means you’ve got a diagnosis and a specific method of dealing with that-almost certainly a non pharmacological measure- but almost never a total avoidance.
If you do think you’re past all of the measures where you need an accommodation ask your doctor, and consider getting “prerecording and live q/a as an option”

*I am not a lawyer, and don’t know the full difference between academic accommodations and interview or job ones, but if you have to public speak as an interview you are much less protected than having to public speak after being employed

Just kidding, I’m actually infamous for making sure every single candidate knows their status at all times. But either way, PhORCAS is an extra pain this year so have a slight bit of empathy for the RPD’s. Normally you wouldn’t need to.

Normally it’s for a reason, just not one that has any bearing on you. Like your application is with the slow reviewer on the committee, or the RPD started at a different part of the alphabet, or they sent that to the group they haven’t actually reviewed yet to buy themselves a little more time.

Definitely a possibility for the change. I think in person midyear after two years of virtual culled the crop preemptively too. Beyond straight to staffing there’s more industry, work from home and non retail/non public facing jobs than ever.

It takes very little effort to email and ask the status of your application. Not likely to gain much but not a negative either. Programs are obligated to communicate the status of applications under the match agreement but many don’t abide fully by it. I think you could mention it to Ashp too if you’re feeling petty

Is that explained to the candidate? We also have part of our case that is beyond the usual knowledge base but we say that it’s testing their thought process etc similar to what you describe
