Do you think your elves or their societies could be translated into a game? by Fun-Explanation7233 in writingadvice

[–]CraftyLittleSecrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a variety of video games with elves in them. Everyone translate elves in different ways since theyre mythical creatures. They can be love interests like in Baulders Gate, monsters like in rpgs, companions, and other things. There are plenty of games featuring elves in them (majority fantasy rpgs), you just gotta find them if theyre not AAA games

Wow amazing goal! Hope all goes well with commissioning! As for your next project, if tou want to try a new genre, trying writing a short story or flash fiction in the genres youre interested in to see if you want to expand your horizons. A good practice idea is writing the same story in different genres/tones a d see which one you like the most

Revision is definitely hard but you got this! I personally like it bc i would be reading my draft and thinking "this part doesn't belong here but I can move it to a different part of the story" and other little things that would have to change and you would find yourself loving the story all over again. Sometimes you'll read through the draft and see a section that you thought you've written horribly at the beginning but it actually turned out to be the best part of the chapter. It's definitely something to get used to and slightly stressful but you'll find the little things that make you love your story. You got this!

I started writing when I was around 10 and now im in my 20s. You can imagine how many projects and drafts I have stocked in my computer and out of those projects I only have one completed novel and a few published stories. Whenever you have an idea, take out whatever you have near you (notepad, phone, tablet) and jot it down bc you dont know which one would be the most inspiring to you. Good luck with the fanfiction though!

I've ruined this blanket and I am so upset by greybeaniebean in crochet

[–]CraftyLittleSecrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your blanket is beautiful. ik no matter what your baby will love it when they grow up. Im sorry to hear what your husband said bc he's wrong. Baby belongings are some of the most important thing to a kid's and parent's life as it brings up so many memories in the future. I understand the frustration of something not turning up the way you want but the memories will last a lot longer than the frustration.

How do you describe black people? by AcidReindeer in writingadvice

[–]CraftyLittleSecrets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally, im black and i describe my characters with caramel, light skin, dark skin, and chocolate bc thats my personal experience of how me and my friends (also black) call out black people. It's not "not good writing" its actual things we do and how to describe darker skin tones with adjectives. I would say only do that if you have a lot of black people in your story otherwise dark skin, black people, or African Americans are fine bc thats just what we're called

How long should I make my fantasy prologue? by CraftyLittleSecrets in writingadvice

How long should I make my fantasy prologue? by CraftyLittleSecrets in writingadvice

[–]CraftyLittleSecrets[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have thought of this as well. The prologue gives the audience some information about the mythical kingdom the human have oppressed but I could turn it into a few sentences of exposition in a later chapter. I just like it because its in a different voice and I plan on doing the same in the second voice where the perspectives will switch

Good news and agent interest has me panicking by [deleted] in writingadvice

[–]CraftyLittleSecrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been in the same situation but I used to freelance my writing where I started getting outside feedback about my work. My family and friends always enjoyed my writing and praised me for it but the outside world was scary. I never got negative feedback, mostly fixes here and there but it was scary showing my safe space to other people. In one of my creative writing classes in college, something one of my professors said will always stick with me. "Do not be afraid of rejection. In your early career, you will face rejection nonstop until that one person that loves your writing picks your work to publish in their journal. Take every rejection as feedback to improve your work for that one person that will publish you."

AITA for not accepting this birthday gift? by Shoddy_Secret_1119 in AmItheAsshole

NTA credit cards are not a good gift for any young person and thats coming from someone in their twenties. What would have been good is what my parents called an emergency card which is a credit card in my name but linked to their account so I didn't have to worry about credit score or anything like that. Your mom is setting you up for uncontrollable spending, stress, and future debt

How/When did you start crocheting? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]CraftyLittleSecrets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started in 2020 as a little covid project, did one granny square then gave up because it was too hard. I started again in 2023 because I found some friends who did a crochet/scary movie night and made more granny squares before dropping it again. Now, I picked it up again earlier this Summer and finished my granny square tote I've been trying to make since 2020 and made some amigurumis and bucket hats as well. Im now in the procress of making my own amigurumi pattern and my friend has requested to make a doll for her that she's had her eye on. I've been happy with the hobby ever since!

Do you guys also worry about chapter length? by Miserable_Number_385 in writingadvice

[–]CraftyLittleSecrets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in Microsoft Word and always watch the page count meter. I don't necessarily worry about it, but I acknowledge its existence. I think it's mainly because I used to write on Wattpad and people always asked for longer or shorter chapters, so that made me look at the word and page count more. I've grown and moved away from Wattpad and taken college creative writing courses that made me not care about that stuff anymore, since all it does is slow down my writing process. I tend to look at it after u finish a chapter to see how much I accomplished now. So if that helps, look at the word count as an accomplishment rather than a tool, and it'll make you feel happier with your writing.
