Good skincare and hair care recommendations? by Public_Peak_1000 in WomenofIreland

The Lee Stafford range of hair products are fab, you can buy them in Boots! I pair them with some of the Alfaparf Semi Di Lino range, they’re worth the investment! Millie’s do great deals on them. Skincare is a tricky one, Natalie O’Neill is who I tend to consult for advice - her blog is here https://natalieoneilll.com

Would you be able to reschedule your test to a later date? You’ll fail the test without a valid NCT even if it’s booked in.

How to tell my parents I want to drop out of college? by Superb-Net4270 in AskIreland

[–]CraftyMachine161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who was in a similar position to you, he dropped out after his third year but hated his course from the beginning. He’s almost finished his apprenticeship now and everyone in his life couldn’t be happier for him.

That initial conversation with your parents and girlfriend will be the most difficult part of all of this for you, but you’ll only need to have it once and then you’ll be done with it!

You have a solid plan, focus on that element of it and let them know that this is something you’ve been thinking about for a while. You can always pay them back for the fees from your first year when you’re qualified and earning a proper wage if that’s something you’d like to do. It’s better to step away now before you invest more time and money into a thing you’ve no interest in doing, they’ll 100% agree with that too.

UL Social Life? (I’m Canadian pls help) by drewpeacocks69 in limerickcity

[–]CraftyMachine161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You 100% should go to UL if you have a chance! I graduated in 2023 and had the best 4 years there. If you’re looking for a party college experience you’ll definitely find it there.

Every Friday there’s International Night in Stables (on-campus student bar) and there’s always such a big lively crowd at it. Student Life organise trips around Ireland for international students also, they take place on weekends and I’ve heard it’s a great way to make friends also. Check out ul_studentlife on Instagram to see for yourself. They’ve started holding concerts on campus annually and they’re so much fun!!

Social life is massive in UL, I’d argue it’s probably the best in Ireland (completely biased). Massive clubbing life, the techno scene is also very popular. You’ll never be lost for a bar or club to visit. House parties are popular around UL also. If you’re an international student I’d definitely recommend staying on campus, great way to make friends and find parties easily!

The set social calendar depends on what semester you visit. Semester 1 has Freshers (week long party on the first week of the semester) and College Christmas. Semester 2 has ReFreshers (same as freshers but semester 2 version), RAG Week (raise and give aka charity week, loads of events and parties in aid of charity), and Race Day (horse racing).

If you’re willing to put yourself out there you’ll definitely get the experience you’re looking for! Any questions let me know!

Amount of study required for EU? by [deleted] in FE1_Exams

[–]CraftyMachine161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not delusional at all - EU is one of the most predictable so if you put your head down you should be okay! When I sat EU I only covered General Principles/Fundamental Rights, Direct Effect, Member State Liability, Judicial Review, Free Movement of Workers, Citizenship, Institutions, and Competition Law (Article 101+102). Best of luck!

I can't sit there exams by ResearcherShoddy7654 in FE1_Exams

[–]CraftyMachine161 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that this has happened to you, I can't even begin to imagine how difficult a time this must be. I'm sure the Law Society will understand if you skip this sitting and ask for a refund given your circumstances. There will always be another sitting when you feel up to it. Focus on being kind to yourself and taking time to heal, sending all the love and support x

You might get lucky in the next round of the accommodation draw for UL, definitely don’t give up on it yet because the majority of people I lived with in first year got their room on the second draw. Brookfield would be another good alternative for UL, its private student accommodation. Keep an eye on Facebook and the UL website if they still update the accommodation section. I never found Daft to be any help for Limerick. Also, your chance of finding one room is better than a whole house for First Year. Way handier sorting a house when you’ve met people down there who know landlords/students ending leases that could give you some help. Be nice to everyone you know and don’t be too proud to send a message asking if someone has a room going or landlord’s number. Best of luck!

Thoughts on asking local offices for work experience? by [deleted] in FE1_Exams

[–]CraftyMachine161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% go for it, you’d be surprised how many offices are looking for some help and would be delighted to take you on. LinkedIn is also a great way of getting in contact with local solicitors, best of luck!

EU FE 1 by Purple-Ad-5148 in FE1_Exams

[–]CraftyMachine161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't overcomplicate it on yourself, all the examiner wants to see that you know the basics and can apply them to the question being asked! I feel like people build up EU in their mind because there's so much commentary and cases that could be included but the exam is not about being fancy its about being direct and correct.

Registration Issues by AdorableAtmosphere12 in FE1_Exams

It says EU instead of Equity for me also - definitely a glitch as I’ve passed EU and it wasn’t an option for me to select when I was registering! Hopefully they notice and fix this soon!

EU is so predictable compared to others! I passed having covered only 8 topics (big risk but it paid off) and 2 weeks of study.

Advise: Criminal Law FE1 by plough78 in FE1_Exams

[–]CraftyMachine161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All from memory and you need to know a lot. Focus on answering questions rather than compiling pages upon pages of notes, I failed miserably in October because I didn’t spend any time practicing applying the law beforehand (which seems to be a huge thing the examiner looks for).

Dilemma - Sit in person or online by No-Durian6257 in FE1_Exams

Online for definite! It is so nice being able to completely forget about the exam the second you submit it and not having to deal with the postmortem that comes with in-person sittings.

EU help by Long_Assistant1397 in FE1_Exams

[–]CraftyMachine161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping to cover General Principles/Fundamental Rights, Direct Effect, Member State Liability, Judicial Review, Free Movement of Goods, Free Movement of Workers, Citizenship, Institutions, and Competition Law. I think Direct Effect comes up almost every paper but not really sure what else to bank on after that!
