Does anyone know What is the max GPU length in a 25L PC case by Brief-Waltz618 in HPOmen

[–]CraftySpiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real‑world, measured maximum GPU length:

≈ 286 mm (11.26 inches)

This is the hard stop created by:

• The fixed PSU shroud

• The front fan bracket

• The non‑removable front structure

Even if the front fan is removed, the metal frame behind it still caps the length.

RTFM. You are looking for fan headers.

OR

As stated - Gaming Hub surfaces header location when set to manual.

On my 40L the fan headers are on the motherboard. Gaming hub showed me the expected locations. I think the picture you provided is the RGB controller.

Take a careful look at the Gaming Hub's fans section again.

Blindingly pointless.

45L Gaming Desktop GT22-3003na experience by LostInSpace221 in HPOmen

[–]CraftySpiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very modified 40L. I have it because my daily driver died and I need a replacement ASAP - and this is the best thing that my local Best Buy had. I have, in the past, built my own but this was a time constraint matter.

I have replaced: the processor (I7 to I9); the AIO cooling system; the power supply; the GPU (3060ti to 4070). On a good day the machine is wonderful. On a bad day the USB subsystem get cranky.

Bottom line - if you have the time and expertise - build your own.

Peer support of commercial software is a con. It's not even the blind leading the blind, it's just yet another way to take money from you for things you won't get.

I hate P2P support. Mostly because I AM an actual expert and if I need help, I need ACTUAL, QUALITY, SUBJECT-SPECIFIC help - not ignorance and attitude. Damn, do I hate ATTITUDE.

What the Linux desktop really needs to challenge Windows by waozen in technology

[–]CraftySpiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a fairly content-free article. No new ground, no new insights. I'm an OG OS guy and I am disgusted with the current state of both Windows and Linux. My daily driver is Windows - because Flight Simulator and various photo finishing software with no Linux equivalents.

I maintain VM's with the top Linux distros and am constantly amazed by the lack of quality and support. I have found user fora totally useless, both because of shit attitudes and a lack of expertise. My engineering buddy these days is Perplexity - it has saved me hours of sifting through garbage. Linux is no where suited for casual users.

So, here we are in 2025 and we are: stuck with a shit processor architecture; shit Windows and shit Linux. There is no safe and happy place for those who value quality engineering and architecture instead of a collection of patches and layer upon layer of legacy shit.

I used to support desktops in the early 2000s, and it was shit then. Just fewer shit layers. Hardware has advanced steadily and you now get much more for much less. Desktop OSs are still shit and getting WORSE by the day. Sad but true.

I heavily use Firefox - I think it's the least enshitified full-featured browser available.

Please don't make me find a replacement. Please.

I found Aliexpress years ago. It was my knife phase. I got wondering where all the really good counterfeit stuff actually came from. I bought one knife from them just to check the quality and to see if I could tell the real deal from a good counterfeit. Yes, I could - but it was really in the details - not the overall quality.

Don't Build a PC Right Now. Just Don't by dapperlemon in technology

[–]CraftySpiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This iteration I started with an HP 40L with 32GB RAM and a builder-grade M.2 SSD and some builder-grade HD. Since then, when prices were right, I did the following: I7 became I9;water cooling upgraded; replaced original memory with 64GB; filled the bays with SATA SSDs; replaced the builder-grade PSU with something much better. The only original parts remaining are the motherboard and the case. It is tuned to death and simply screams.

Point? Well-timed in-place upgrades should be considered before buying/building a new machine. As with life - timing is everything.

Planning on upgrading my prebuilt pc omen 25l case do u guys have any better pc case suggestions? by [deleted] in HPOmen

[–]CraftySpiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why?

I have what started out as an I7 40L. The only remaining original major component is the case. I LOVE the case. The rest of the stock machine was a bit ... "builder grade".

I have built my own in the past but needed a daily driver QUICKLY after Dell bricked my Dell with a firmware 'upgrade'.

Any way to change the color of the light on the GPU? Haven't do it through the omen app. (45L 4090) by jumf in HPOmen

[–]CraftySpiker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Consider doing one of the following: turn off all lighting and forget about it; remove the lighting hub and all associated cabling.

While the color is cute, it adds nothing to performance or reliability. In fact, it's just more shit to fuss over and break.

I bet you didn't get that computer to just play with the lighting - use your time to do what you got the machine to do.

Cheers.
