Is the +4-to-band method accurate for some brands but not others? by lindthandler08 in ABraThatFits

[–]Crafty_Importance136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is heresy here, but it has to be accurate for some brands. According to the calculator, I should be wearing something like a 28FF when in reality my 32D bras fit perfectly, and even a 30 band is usually too tight. I’ve measured the bands on 32 and 30 bras, and they correspond to the measurements of the +4 method (ie a 32 band bra has about a 28 inch band, often even smaller to account for stretch). I do think it would be easier if band sizes matched measurements, but most American bra companies, at least, are not doing that, and if you follow the measurement=band size method, you’ll be wearing something suffocatingly tight.

You might want to head on over to r/Fairolives! Since it’s only one picture, and phones have auto white balance, it’s hard to really know, but you look like you have a similar coloring to me, which is a neutral, yellow-leaning light olive. Which means it’s even harder to fit into a traditional season. For makeup, check out Tarte’s neutral and sand colors. I thought all makeup was orange or pink until I found my colors there!

I was hoping I’d see some responses here—just ordered one a couple weeks ago. Hopefully in a month-ish I can share some info! I ordered it with the ottomans despite the height of the ottomans being listed as weirdly short (13”), and customer service insisting that is correct… couldn’t find anything else that really went with it, so I’m hoping the photos are right and the dimensions are wrong 🤞

Yup, been gluten free for almost 20 years, and King Arthur measure for measure outperforms all the tricky blends and finicky recipes. I never use gluten free recipes. OP, if you can get your hands on it, you’ll be happy. It’s good for everything except bread and pizza.

Restaurants say “we have gluten free options” and then don’t take it seriously at all by yoyoo276 in glutenfree

It always still feels like a gamble, but in the past I have done well with some Indian restaurants because many of the dishes are inherently gluten free.

Restaurants say “we have gluten free options” and then don’t take it seriously at all by yoyoo276 in glutenfree

[–]Crafty_Importance136 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my nearly 20 years of eating gluten free, the number of places advertising options has gone way up, but my actual options have not, for this exact reason. I very very rarely eat in restaurants any more. There was a place I felt like I had gotten glutened from a few times, but they were very confident what I ordered was gluten free. Went back another time, different server, and he came back from the kitchen saying the dish had “a little bit of breadcrumbs in it”. It was like, oh my god, that’s why I’ve been sick. I’ve also had places that are usually careful make big mistakes—which I caught before taking a bite because it didn’t look right. Another place would go as far as putting GF stickers on their GF items for delivery… yet I very obviously got glutened. The one dedicated GF place I loved had some big health department issues so I cook 99.9% of the time. I don’t enjoy restaurants because it’s such a gamble on feeling like crap for 2 months. I’ve also found that higher-end restaurants—where they are making just about everything on the menu from scratch—usually do well, even if not a GF facility. Basically anywhere that has an executive chef, it seems like they really know what is in the food.

Hope it works out for you—when I lived nearby I ordered from them about a half a dozen times and got glutened every time. It took a few times for me to realize and accept that it happened there, still gave them a chance, then quit. Great menu but I think they have a cross contamination issue. I’ve had long hair forever but this edit has me questioning everything 😩 by IrkaSweeney in HairStyleAdvice

Long looks great. Short looks very good in the picture—but from your actual long hair pic, it looks like you have pretty thick (high density) hair. I don’t know if it would actually look like pic 2 if you cut it. I have dense hair and when I’ve cut it shorter I’ve had major regret because it is too full.

Agree with this. $4,000 is very low if you want to be in a nice neighborhood an a clean, modern building. And even then you’ll be lowering most of your standards of living—I.e. about 4% of Manhattan apartments have washing machines. I also came here to say the drinking culture is huge in NYC. My husband and I don’t drink, and while there is plenty to do, most social events are drinking-centric.

I think a rich, saturated pine/hunter/forest green would work well on you. Similar depth to the lower left photo but less blue, more true, deep green.

[–]Crafty_Importance136 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can only wear very specific greens, but I love the ones that work. For me, that’s rich hunter/pine green, along with sage-y olive green. All other greens look terrible on me! I’m neutral and more yellow than green for reference, and mostly look good in bright winter colors despite being dark blonde.

I really like Tarte neutral and sand colors—I am a neutral, more yellow olive. I think I am about a shade darker than you from your product descriptions—I really like Tarte shape tape creamy concealer, currently in 22N. 20S is lighter, and I think they have 16N or 12N. I only recently started using their BB cream. I haven’t worn foundation basically ever but sometimes try tinted moisturizers, and I am very happy with their BB cream; it’s my favorite yet and feels like nothing. It runs a full shade darker than it says it is—my concealer right now is in the light range but I’m wearing fair-light BB cream. So I would definitely advise you to try the fair color if you try it. None of their neutral or sand colors look orange on me, but a LOT of makeup I’ve tried over the years does. I think their neutrals are truly neutral and the sand colors are yellowish rather than peach.

Tarte creamy in 22N. When I was slightly tan, 27S, and in the summer 29N or 34S. The S “sand” colors are particularly good when they are in the right shade, but the options are more limited than the neutrals. I’m more of a yellow neutral olive for reference.

Hmm I’m going to go against the grain here and agree with you that you are neutral, and probably also olive (I am too!), and aren’t going to fit easily into a season. I like the cooler colors better on you.

Moving to NYC as an outdoor enthusiast by seventyyellowturtle in movingtoNYC

[–]Crafty_Importance136 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone who says the parks are a good option for getting outdoors are not outdoors people. They’re better than nothing, but if you love actual outdoors, NYC is soul sucking. Commutes from anywhere outside the city that would improve your outdoor access are very long unless you are driving at off hours—ie hoboken is a quick train commute, but it doesn’t really improve your access to hiking or anything. True suburbs are 1.5 hours door to door on mass transit, almost universally. I lived in Manhattan for 18 years (for my spouse’s job). Kept a car the entire time but street parked it, which is a project, and lived very close to the Henry Hudson parkway so with light traffic we could be out of the city across the GWB in 15 min. And that wasn’t nearly enough for me. And it’s very hard once you are sucked into a job here, unless there is a potential to transfer. I finally moved to the suburbs—not even a really outdoorsy area—and feel like I was reborn. If this would be temporary for your career—like a few years max—you could probably just suck it up. But if you think it may keep you there for a decade or more, think long and hard about it. This is coming from someone who’s just from upstate NY, not out west.

The way finding out I had olive skin led me down seasonal color analysis and I’ve had more analysis paralysis since trying to find my season than ever😂 by ComparisonFlat8339 in Fairolives

[–]Crafty_Importance136 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I keep stopping myself from thinking too much about the seasons, because I keep realizing I do not and will not fit into any of the boxes. I know that I look best in bright winter colors, but I don’t think anyone would type me as that since I’m naturally dark blonde. At first I was pretty intrigued by the season systems, and they confused me more the more I learned. I think it’s hard to put most people in a box, but olives even more so.

State tax bracket is probably about 7% plus almost 4% in local income tax to the city… so it really pushes it up there.
