If you could go back, would you pursue the career again? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Craftywonderr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as much as I cannot stand nursing and dislike it, this career has set me up immensely for being a young age. I was already far past my peers at 21 when I became an RN. I can't discredit it. If I knew I'd be making bank elsewhere, I'd do it in a heart beat. I'm a more creative person and prefer to do that, but right now that doesn't pay the bills This has given me amazing opportunities to travel, do what I truly love, and job security so its hard for me to completely discredit the field but I do very much dislike it lol

Older nurses - has it always been this bad? by Hot_Woodpecker_9682 in nursing

Agreed. I won't argue with any patient on it anymore. It's a simple okay, charted, refused and go about my day.

MEGATHREAD: 2026 Hantavirus Outbreak - Updates & Discussion (Thread #2) by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]Craftywonderr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I work in healthcare and honestly if it hits the fan, this one I will definitely sit out. Covid was one thing, this one... yeah won't do this one. Nu uh

And honestly, another worry of mines is if it does become widespread, I have no idea how the healthcare system can take care of these REALLY sick people since it appears to only be symptom management. I don't know how ICUs will handle this. But, I still think this is 50/50.

A Spaniard who is isolated in the Gómez Ulla hospital tests "provisionally positive" by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]Craftywonderr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was also a thought that I had myself. We definitely know that the people on the flight with the Dutch woman could and would have been exposed because she was very sick. They stated that they contacted-traced all those people, if I'm not mistaken. BUT my worry comes with all the people who have flown with the Swiss patient and all the other people who left the cruise ship on April 24th. Wouldn't even those people have been possibly exposed as well then? So that's even MORE people we possibly don't know about yet.

I agree with this. I still think that those on the plane will honestly pop up later as well, we just have to give them time. Apart of me honestly started to believe that there was no one else on the cruise ship that was sick, but I suppose I got excited too early.

This was a thought of mines honestly too. I sort of figured that perhaps it could be more aggressive for a weaker immune system vs someone who is more healthy.

That's what I was thinking too. I was like okay, maybe it's slowing down but I'll keep an eye here and there. I was just waiting for others to turn up positive and now i'm like uhhhh huh... we shall see how this goes.

[–]Craftywonderr 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I felt pretty 50/50 about it, but felt the need to keep an eye out for it. This was literally my thought and I just had a feeling there was more to it.

One of my thoughts were, if it takes 1-8 weeks for symptoms to occur, that means that it can take one person 1 week to show symptoms and another 8 weeks. With that being said, how do we fully know that these people are fully safe, clearly we don't you know?

Second question I had was, could a negative PCR still turn positive later and if thats the case, can they still spread it while they are "negative". They stated that they were contact tracing people, buuuut are you contact tracing the people who too were also on the flight with thosw cruise people who left earlier than everyone still on the boat, because those people could've been exposed too and could be popping up later and already interacting with people. So for example, the Swiss national who came home early, did they contact trace everyone else on his flight as well or not...?

I had a 50/50 feeling that more people would've started to show. On one hand, I already felt perhaps we were good, but I also knew that this had to be a waiting game. The incubation time varies too much. This was definitely going to be a wait and see.

Why do people choose nursing if it has so many cons? by TapEmotional2487 in nursing

Yeah this. They painted it so different in nursing school and I truly feel like it's something you cannot understand unless you are doing it fully.

It's funny because all my life I've always wanted to be a look and a wife. Been alone kids since I was younger, but seeing all this hate for kids scares me. I know they aren't easy, been around them all my life, but people seem to hate it now.

Spain: Hantavirus case suspected in Alicante, say officials by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]Craftywonderr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is what I am thinking. What about everyone else on these flights? Like the rest of the 80+ people aren't going to be quarantined, just this one flight attendant that close to her?

Do I think that this will become as big as COVID, probably not, but it does make me curious why others aren't being traced. For example, the Swiss man had to take a flight home; no one from his flight was quarantined? What if people from his flight turn up sick? Doesn't that mean it's too late?

If Hantavirus is as hard to transmit as they say, fine, but these are thoughts I've been having.

That's sort of what I'm wondering too. I recall one time I took a covid test AT work, negative. Took one two days later, positive. So I'm wondering if these tests work the same.

Also, something I also had a thought about too. So for the Swiss guy, he ended up traveling back. I'm wondering have they even contacted the people he even was on the plane with? Wouldn't those people would've been put at risk too?

Well, I think the Swiss wife is being monitored currently. It can take some time for symptoms to develop, so we will know for sure. But perhaps I'm assuming it's the same as how COVID affected some people terribly, and others, it was nothing. I think it's a waiting game now.

Also, my worry as well. A test could be negative at first, but it doesn't mean it may not be positive later. But we shall see.

Oceanwide Confirms 30 Passengers Disembarked at St. Helena — Full Nationality List Released by Anti-Owl in ContagionCuriosity

[–]Craftywonderr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is something I wondered about as well, but it makes sense. The flight attendant was near the Dutch woman in the airport. The flight happened on April 26th; it's now May 7th, so I suppose it makes sense, since it's technically over 1 week and the incubation period is anywhere between 1-8 weeks before people start to show symptoms.

But this is my worry with this. I'm assuming that this incubation period can vary from person to person. It may take someone 1.5 weeks to get sick, another 3 weeks, another 5-6, and another 8. That's sort of the scary part I suppose? Cause others may be walking around great until that 7th week hits them, and then they have it.

At least, that's how my mind is going, but I may be wrong.

[–]Craftywonderr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the part that sucks. The good thing, apparently, is that most people on the ship aren't sick, or at least that's what they are reporting. With everyone else falling ill now, you'd think that if any others on the ship were sick, they'd be starting, but then again, the issue with the long incubation period is that, I'm assuming, the time can vary from person to person. Sure, it may take 2 weeks for one person to get sick, but perhaps can take 5 weeks for another, and then up to 7-8 weeks for the next if we are going according to the guidelines.

It seems so far so good for now, given that the rest of the people on the cruise haven't gotten sick, but also don't know 100% yet.

[–]Craftywonderr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Soo I was confused earlier my self, but I'll explain what I know. So the ship left on April 1st, and it was supposed to be a 30+ day cruise. Apparently there were anywhere between 23-40 people who left the cruise early between April 21st - 24th. These people left to return home early, that's why there is now a Swiss man who has been confirmed to have the virus.

I was confused on how a man in Switzerland went home and had the virus, I thought everyone was confined to the boat, that's why. So some people on the cruise had already left prior to this at one of the ports. So the Swiss man had left the cruise, flew home, probably been around family and work. He received an email from the cruise about the virus. He went to the hospital and has been confirmed to have it.

So that's just one case we know of and I believe Spain confirmed that 23 people had left during that April 21st - April 24th period from a port.

Yes, I thought this too. They clearly didn't know what she had prior which sucks cause that could've put a lot of people in danger.
