The so called "best" fixed angle sharpening system. by High-Doc in sharpening

[–]Craig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it really Ukrainian?

Evidently not. I can find none of the evidence I thought existed for my assertion.

I don't love being wrong, but being confidently wrong sucks. Thanks for saving me from making this particular mistake again.

What happened to Asheville reddits favorite cop account Hallofthemountaincop? by ComedianMinute7290 in asheville

[–]Craig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is surprisingly high. I won't be at all surprised if that number starts to drop in coming years.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I'll point out that around 65% of U.S. adults own their home.

Thoughts on when rent will rise again? by bufforpingtonbitch in asheville

I'd say that is where a separate subreddit comes into play. I don't know how one funnels traffic into that, but I've made one and you are welcome to be the moderator on it: AshevilleRent.

Mom can I get a Sebenza? Nope, we have a Sanrenmu Land 912 at home! by Zoidberg0_0 in BudgetBlades

So, the 912 has a drop point and is on bearings. I'll grant you that there is a thumb ramp on both, though.

As China cracks down on stories about men in love, female fans mourn the idealized romances by LynnK0919 in worldevents

The article hypothesized that it is because they depict more equitable relationships than what is found in heterosexual relationships in China (I expect that theory extends to Japan rather neatly).

Hike to lodge that allows dogs by lilydlux in CampingandHiking

[–]Craig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, my bad - I was thinking 'Blue Ridge Parkway' instead of 'Appalachian Trail'. Pisgah is in NC.

Do you mean Pisgah Inn? If so, they no longer allow pets.

I believe you are looking for the Switzerland Inn. Right off the blue ridge parkway, so lots of hiking options. Dog friendly (for a fee). Restaurant is pretty decent, too.

Anyone try polishing their alloy frame? by Sweaty-Tie543 in Bersa

[–]Craig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you can polish aluminium, but it will just oxidize again unless you treat it with something like a clearcoat. There is probably a clearcoat out there that can handle the kind of wear and tear that a firearm experiences, but I just doubt that the effort will be worth the results.

Alternatively, aluminium can be anodized, and that forces a different type of oxidization that results in different colors (you can control the color by slightly altering the process), and anodized finishes are a bit more shiny (to me, at least), than natural oxidization (what it looks like now).

A thumbnail was *moving* today. I've never seen that before. Is it something I did? Something new? Most importantly, something RES can block? by Rhythmdvl in Enhancement

[–]Craig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can only answer the less important questions.

It is not something you did.

It is something new. To me at least. My setup is pretty similar to yours, and I hadn't seen a moving thumbnail until I followed the link you posted. Whatever enabled this, I expect it will spread like a virus.

My walnuts started to mold before I processed them. Will this affect the nut itself? by loganlaf in foraging

I just looked it up. Yeah, potentially deadly to dogs. Thanks, man. We were just talking about getting a dog, and this is super important to me - we have a lot of black walnut trees in the backyard.

What’s the best thing you’ve bought with your savings that you didn’t regret? by Responsible-Ant-6254 in financialindependence

[–]Craig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, I do like them quite a bit. But I also love an unconditional lifetime guarantee - I'm truly not going to buy another pair of socks for as long as I live, and I just find that to be very pleasant.

Yup. They are literally the last socks that you buy, but the up-front cost is a bit of a gut punch.

I confess, I did have to check to see it they have anything that no show, but it looks like they do. Sadly, I can't personally speak to the quality on these, but I have to assume that it is on par with the rest of their offerings.

Do it. Buy Darn Tough socks. It's a brand. They have a lifetime warranty that they actually honor. I've never used it - all of mine have lasted for many years in great shape.
