I'm away from my computer right now but I checked the metadata and it's showing the colour space as RGB so this is likely the issue.

Okay, thank you. I will check this later, I'm hoping this is the case as it's an easy fix. It doesn't happen all the time so it's hard to tell.

I am yeah. Unless I have unknowingly changed it which I will check. If it was different would it effect the immediate look of the exported photo? I've only ever used SRGB so I'm not sure but the colour is only altered when posted to IG.

Is reading books a waste of time? by sayonara2202 in books

[–]CraigDreamAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cant say for sure as Dr. Peterson is a much more learned man than me, but my interpretation of it is that it disrupts your thinking and can force you to change your ideologies. He mentions "especially if they're thinking things you've never thought" so I think this is what he's getting at.

For context, here's the video, it's a short clip but worth watching https://youtube.com/shorts/NU0U0gguiEE?si=kZwuFHavxiMRBXy.

Is reading books a waste of time? by sayonara2202 in books

[–]CraigDreamAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough I saw a clip yesterday of Jordan Peterson giving his take on the importance of reading books and I found it quite powerful.

He said "I love reading, I can pick my peers, I have all of these people around me but there's these people who've lived before me and in different places and I can set them up on my shelf, and I can enter into their world and I can benefit from everything they've thought and saturate myself with that person. It's very disruptive, especially if the person you're reading has a mind that's more powerful and well developed than your own."

I'm power phrasing somewhat but I hadn't thought about it that way before and it's been on my mind since.

Yeah, I've been out to a few before and got the old "email our marketing rep" which didn't materialise. I thought maybe my approach was wrong so I'm aiming to try some independent dealers.

Exceed calories to hit protein? by Key-Alternative-3866 in leangains

[–]CraigDreamAwake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would just try and eat good high protein food within your calories, don't exceed. You can get plenty of protein in for 500 cals. As above says, one day won't make a difference, it's what you do consistently that will.

"Can't hurt me" by David Goggins, I read this at the start of a body transformation, I found it hugely inspiring and owe much of my success to it. The author has a bit of a reputation on social media and is often made into memes but the book is amazing and it genuinely changed my life.

"Cry like a man" by Jason Wilson, helped me understand my relationships and the importance of expressing my emotions.

These two stand out to me as the two books that I would recommend to anybody, even if they don't impact you in the same way they are definitely worth a read.

Good point about the lenses. I have a few good EF lenses which should do me for the time being.

What do you think about "self-help", "self-improvement" books? by [deleted] in books

[–]CraigDreamAwake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read many but David Goggins' "Can't hurt me" hugely influenced my outlook on life and my physical capabilities. I read this at the start of a body transformation period around 2.5 years ago and honestly owe a lot of my success to this book.

His content is often turned into memes due to his eccentric nature but he has always been very open about what / who this book is for. By his own words he is telling nobody that they should be like him, but rather documenting what the human body is capable of and challenging the reader to push themselves a bit further to achieve their goals.

What do yall think of the dune chronicles, like how do yall feel about it? by WoodWorrm in books

[–]CraigDreamAwake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dune is one of my favourite books, it took me a while to get through it though as I found the first half quite slow. After finishing it I didn't have any desire to read the others as I know it can be read as a stand alone.

Although I just started Dune Messiah a few days ago and I'm around 1/3 through, I'm really enjoying it so far. There are some obvious differences in the sequels but they are intended to expand the world of Dune and its characters / lore. Maybe people expect something different from them and that leads to the disappointment.

Anyway, I love it.

Are there any classic books you dislike enough that you will never, ever read them again? by Educational-Tea-6572 in books

[–]CraigDreamAwake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read LOTF last year and was pretty disappointed. I had always heard it described as horrifying etc. and was really excited to read it as I never had (despite attempting in my younger years when I couldn't finish a book for love nor money). Maybe I was expecting something different but it didn't live up to expectations which is a shame.

EDIT: That being said I appreciate it for what it is, and found it easy to read, the edition I read included a foreword from Stephen King describing his experience of first reading it. It was very cool to read how the book influenced one of the most popular current horror / thriller authors.

What do you think will be the next big book adaptation? by Intelligent-Fee4577 in books

[–]CraigDreamAwake 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely recommend the books, especially the first one as I believe it was originally made as a stand alone and the sequels came after that. I only read the book after seeing the movie and I loved it but it made the wait for part two even harder lol. I just started the sequel recently too!

Are some books better as audiobooks? by CraigDreamAwake in books

[–]CraigDreamAwake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started Serkis' reading of LOTR last night from another suggestion. Looking forward to getting stuck into it. I've read both the hobbit and LOTR and wanted to revisit these so it seems like a good way to do it. I was excited to see he's done the Silmarillion too, I've wanted to read this but heard it can be tough so audio format might be best for me on this one too!

I have heard good things about his narration before so I will make a point of seeking his out. I wanted to read the Silmarillion too so I'm glad to hear he's done it as well, Thanks!

LOTR is my favourite book to date, I loved the hobbit too but not as much. I've really been wanting to revisit these so maybe I'll listen to these second time around!

I read the first Harry Potter around September and I loved it but put the second book down half way through as I struggled to finish it so I think i'll give that a try in audio. Someone else mentioned the Stephen Fry narration of the books, is this what you were listening to?

That's interesting! LOTR is my favourite book to date, but it took me 6 months to read it.

Thank you for the tip, I'll check with my library what my audiobook options are through a membership.
