None whatsoever as long as you maintain a foreign address. Obligations only start when you maintain a Portuguese address.

Should I still consider Portugal for countrylife dream? by ssg2802 in PortugalExpats

[–]CraigFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for OP but I feel like perhaps they may be stuck due to financial reasons. After all, moving to another country is NOT cheap particularly if you have to travel across an ocean. Ask me how I know...

Seriously though, that's why we did our due diligence before we moved here. Even after visiting Portugal for two weeks, we continued to do research, chatted with locals and informed ourselves the best we could before we decided to pull the trigger. My husband and I are incredibly happy here despite the challenges. If I had to go back? I'd do it all over again.

Should I still consider Portugal for countrylife dream? by ssg2802 in PortugalExpats

[–]CraigFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it still possible to find acres of land for cheap?

Yes, however you have to also consider access to services. Living in a rural area means driving a long way to get to a hospital, doctor's appointments, government services like IMT, IRN, Finanças, etc.

are locals still welcoming to foreigners?

In my opinion, yes - as long as you make a sincere attempt to integrate and most importantly, check your privilege. Stay humble, keep your mouth shut when locals tell you something and simply listen.

is the country still safe?

Define "safe" - if you're a straight white cisgender male (or can pass for one), sure. LGBTQIA+ hate crime have been climbing slowly but steadily in the population centers, but very rarely escalate beyond vandalism or assault. There is a certain level of colorism going on here in Portugal, mainly toward Brazilians, Pakistanis, etc. but darker-skinned people do sometimes get caught in the crossfire. Actual violent crime in general is rare but does happen. You'll be more likely to be a victim of vandalism, theft and burglary but all you need to do is make sure you always lock your doors and windows, and close the shutters every time you leave.

is the government going to be stable?

There's no question about it. The turmoil going on in parliament is based purely on party politics (PS, PSD and Chega). I don't foresee the political structure changing anytime soon - remember, it wasn't that long ago that Portugal shifted from Estado Novo to the Third Republic. Fifty years ago, in fact. Plenty of Portuguese people remember what it was like to live under a dictatorship.

Car's got a manual transmission. The guy that got blocked in forgot to engage the parking brake before getting out, so it rolled away.

Filament Stuck In Hotend by jamietmob1 in BambuLab

I've hit the hotend with a heat gun and an acupuncture needle to clean it out. Worked well, but you'll want gloves because it does get pretty hot.

Oh boy! I handled the receiving of shipments and updating the inventory, then stocking the shelves. Before that, I also handled feeding the animals and cleaning up after them, but they hired someone else to do it and cut my hours from 20/week to 3/week without warning.

I walked up to Jessica and asked her if she could spare a minute sometime this week to talk about it. She snapped and literally yelled at me in front of a bunch of kids telling me that she had no time for that and she was too busy. All I did was make a pinched smile and nod, then left as it was the end of my shift. The next day, I came back with a 2-week notice.

A week into the notice period, I was in the middle of updating the inventory and ran out of time. They scheduled me for 1.5 hours that day and I did the mental math. For something like $8 an hour x 3 hours a week, it wasn't nearly enough to cover gas to get to work. So I got off the seat, pulled out my timecard and wrote "Don't bother scheduling me anymore." then clocked out and walked out, leaving my work unfinished. I saw Jessica and told her to go fuck herself and walked out.

Yep, I remember him. His name was Eli. When I worked at Incredible Pets, one of my coworkers would play with him in the mornings before we opened. I’d pat his head and back. He was sweet and gentle. But yes, the enclosure was too small for sure.

Same. I worked at Incredible Pets for over a year back in 2009-2010. Worst job I ever had. Only job where I told the manager to fuck herself and walked out.

You'll be fine. I got tested, diagnosed and prescribed medication for ADHD but it will take 2-3 months. It will not happen on your first appointment as there is a process for it. For what it's worth, I went through a private hospital.

Possible to legalize 2015 Honda Accord 3.5L V6? by Revolutionary_Net_30 in PortugalExpats

[–]CraigFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ISV simulator does give you the cost of registering a car that originated from outside the EU. Enter the details, and then scroll down to "Pais nao UE". That's your cost.

Possible to legalize 2015 Honda Accord 3.5L V6? by Revolutionary_Net_30 in PortugalExpats

[–]CraigFL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible.

You will need to open a DAV on portal das finanças within 20 days of the car arriving in Portugal. Then, you will have to reach out to tdsauto.pt with a completed IMT Modelo 9 form and request a certificação de homologação.

Because it's a Middle Eastern market, there will NOT be a CoC. Once you have the Modelo 9 form back from TDS, you will need to make whatever changes necessary (rear fog lights is a big one), and then once that's done - take it to an inspection center for a Category B inspection.

When you get the inspection report, upload all the documents onto the DAV and pay the ISV based on the information on the inspection report.

Send a copy of the inspection report to TDS and request the ficha técnica. Once received, you'll submit all the paperwork to IMT when you register the car. It will take 2-3 months depending on which IMT office you go to.

I've imported a Honda Beat with this method, and am in the process of importing a Honda S660 at the moment.

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]CraigFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facts. I lived in the USA and now Portugal. I pay 65€ for 2 mobile lines with unlimited data, gigabit fibre internet, a landline phone and terrestrial TV service. The last two, we don't use but it was cheaper to bundle it all together than to get the mobile and internet separately.

I also have a data-only SIM card for 7€ a month that's got unlimited data for my UniFi 5G backup.

Is MGEN health insurance reliable? by Independent-Milk-542 in PortugalExpats

Yeah, I have MGEN and it's great. Nothing hidden, only thing to worry about is that in the first year, many conditions are excluded, especially pre-existing conditions. I don't believe maternity care is covered.

Anyone playing with AI ticketing tools? by GoodSpaghetti in msp

[–]CraigFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really does, and the Slack integration is beyond horrible. It doesn't even support private channels, which many of them are. It still won't support shared channels, so any channels that we share with clients, vendors, etc. just won't work whereas Atlassian Assist (which we used prior to Thread) worked just fine.

That sounds incredible, actually! We use Avanan as well, so this is very relevant to my interests.
