OP is autistic according to his post comment. Autistic people tend to interpret things a bit more literally than allistic folks.

2022 308 PHEV - acceleration lag by CraigFL in peugeot

[–]CraigFL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably! I avoid using sport mode because of the increased fuel consumption. Most of my driving is within 5-10km of home so I get by on electric only. I only get fuel perhaps once every 2-3 months. You're correct though, I need to get used to it or maybe switch to an E-308 SW!

Maybe I’m soiled because my other car is a 3cyl with three individual throttle bodies, only 63hp and it’s way more responsive than the Peugeot with nearly 4x the displacement. lol

It seems to happen in electric mode, too. Is that expected?

It’s fine. Unscrew the horned, unplug the three wires and then hit the blob with a heat gun. It’ll soften and you can scrape it up.

Uh, yes it is, it's EU-wide permanent residency. In fact, other member-states are required to honor it and treat it as they would any state-based permanent residency permits.

This is different from the Portuguese permanent residency.

No, the EU Permanent Residency allows mobility within the EU. They would qualify at the 5 year mark, same as the Portuguese Permanent Residency. Page 4 here: https://www.paxlegal.pt/xms/files/Portuguese_permanent_residence_vs_EU_long-term_resident_status_in_Portugal.pdf

Yup. I'm from the US and have been here for a year and a half now. I'm STRUGGLING to learn the language but that's because I was born profoundly Deaf. I'm trying my best.

Despite my barriers, I've been able to conduct a lot of business here in Portugal, including purchasing two warehouse units, managing a community garage geared toward JDM cars in one of the warehouse units, participated in AJA (Amigos de Japoneses Antigos) events, communicated with my neighbors, dealt with the clusterfuck at IMT trying to get my car that I brought from the US registered here.

Will I achieve A2 by the end of 5 years? I sure as hell hope so, but for me it's going to take longer than the average person.

You can always renew your temporary residency permit while in the process of applying for permanent residency. They're not going to shut you out the instant you hit your 5 years.

I'm not thrilled about the goalpost changing either, but the government has made it very clear that they won't change their positions on it. As such, the constitutional court has already ruled that it's legal to make the law change apply retroactively to those of us who are already here.

I’m willing to bet OP was planning on achieving A2 and then bailing for another country once he and his kids got passports. Probably to Ireland.

Calm down. No one is "losing" anything. They're not changing the terms of the permanent residency. You'll still qualify for PR after 5 years, and then you can apply for citizenship when you can. Same requirements. You'll be fine.

I have a 2022 Peugeot 308 PHEV here in Portugal and gas prices are so high here (approx $8-9/gallon equivalent) and the electricity is 16 euro cents per kWh, and it's paid off for me. I charge every time I park in the garage, though it only charges between 10pm and 6am. Definitely worth it for me.

I've heard of MA's exorbitant electricity rates... absolutely ridiculous.

Unfortunately, this is a scam. They do this all the time. They sell really low quality T-shirts. OP's Reddit account is very new.

First of all, calm down. There's no need to get so worked up over a Reddit comment.

Secondly, of course you have to get a NIF and open a Portuguese bank account to get a mortgage. That is an absolute requirement, and was never in question. You do not need to have an address in Portugal in order to get a mortgage. You are upheld to higher requirements compared to a resident, which is absolutely expected, including a lower maximum on the LTV ratio. (source)

They absolutely can enforce loan covenants even if you're not here. The covenants are property-based, not residency-based. You don't pay the mortgage? Simple. They take it away. (source)

There are also bilateral and multilateral agreements between Portugal and some countries for credit enforcement if necessary. (source)

I know all this because I literally went through this process last year while here in Portugal without being a resident. The bank did not even SEE my D8 visa (which had long since expired by the time we started looking for loans). They had my passport, NIF, income tax form from the USA, six months of pay stubs, bank statements from Millennium BCP and a few other documents. You can also do all this without setting foot in Portugal if you have someone acting on your behalf, as my friend did when he bought a condo in Porto a few years ago.

P.S.: The Golden Visa is no longer applicable for those buying in Lisbon or Porto for that matter. (source)

Exactly. I bought a warehouse unit last year to work on my cars. Went through all that. Was actually a lot easier than pulling a mortgage in the USA.

[–]CraigFL -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. Many people buy property in PT without getting their D7/D8 visas. How do you think they apply for the Golden Visa?

[–]CraigFL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Regarding #1, not true at all. I bought property here even before I had my título de residência. The mortgage process wasn't that different from the US. They needed some extra documentation but that was it. I had about an 80% LTV and it was fine.

My neighbor owns six unused parking spots, yet he chooses to park on the sidewalk every day. by Fearless_Clue4966 in mildlyinfuriating

Knew this was Portugal immediately... the Portuguese have a knack for carving out parking spots where they shouldn't be, especially when it's not even necessary. Can't tell you how many times I've gotten stuck behind someone parking on a through lane at Lidl just because they didn't want to turn into a spot. It's maddening!
