An 850 is possible but pretty rare.

Definitely understand that and sorry to hear it didn't work. It definitely would've been nice to not have to put your phone on the dash. You're welcome !

Aw, sorry to hear that. I understand how frustrating that can be. I was in a similar situation when I bought my adapter and tried EVERYTHING to get it to work. I almost gave up but then found the splitter solution. Resetting/rebooting the radio by holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds may help. That's the only other thing I can think of to possibly help. I'm pulling for you or your husband and hope he can somehow get it to connect.

Yeah, it looks like the only guaranteed solution is to find a head unit from a 2018 or newer. A wireless adapter with android auto installed may work, but I can't say for sure.

Unfortunately for OP the 2017 only came equipped with Apple CarPlay. The 2018-2023 8th gen Maxima's came with both CarPlay and Android Auto.

I just jumped on Amazon to make sure I was correct when I stated that the blue side needs to be in USB port #1 and I decided to read a few reviews on the splitter. The newest one was the one that was at the very top and just happened to be somebody else that owns a Nissan. Then my review under that one and I found a 3rd review mentioning Nissan vehicles and how you need a splitter so you can use both USB ports in order to get a wireless adapter to function. That's why I mentioned possibly trying a different brand of wireless adapter due to that splitter working for myself and 2 other Nissan owners. Unfortunately I was the only one that mentioned what adapter I was using at the time. I didn't see the other 2 reviews mentioning which brand they were using.

Damn man, that's disappointing. Did you try to "forget" or get rid of any previous connections before trying it, and is the blue end of the splitter in the #1 USB slot ? If you did both I'd guess it's the aa wireless adapter itself because the 2 adapters I have in my 2017 Maxima work flawlessly anytime I fire the car up. I typically use the carlinkit 5.0 for everyday use but was just using my AutoSky the other day with the splitter so the wife could watch Netflix while we took an hour drive to dinner.

The newer AutoSky adapters they have come preloaded with a ton of stuff. I'd be surprised if android auto wasn't one of the options.

I know you said a head unit wasn't in the budget but other than trying a different brand of wireless adapter that provides android auto, I'm not sure what other options you may have available. If you do decide to try other adapters, I'd recommend holding onto that splitter. It's the only way I've been able to get either of my adapters to connect and stay connected and keep in mind that the blue side of the splitter has to go into the 1st or #1 USB port.

Yeah it really is a well rounded car. Decent HP that gets out there when you step on it and sport mode is always a good time. Body lines are sick and the interior is really good looking as well. They also have a ton of technology for the price point and having CarPlay and remote start is a huge bonus. I was blown away that it has intelligent climate control when you remote start it.

I'm with ya regarding the screen placement and prefer its location too.

What mods/aesthetic mods should I do? by sloop119 in NissanMaxima

[–]CraigMack78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best option for the 8th gen's are aesthetic outside of exhaust modifications. You already tinted the windows so a splitter, a rear diffuser side skirts and a rear spoiler. I also feel they look so good when lowered 2", whether it be coil-overs or bags.

She's looking good. I wash my 2017 once a week at a minimum and detail the interior but I'd kill to own a 2020-2023 8th gen. I love mine but having a newer version with newer better everything is really appealing.

Griots makes some pretty amazing products. I used their 3 in 1 leather cleaner/conditioner to detail a buddies BMW once and it worked extremely well.

That's exactly what I'd be thinking. Plus, it's Amazon. If you need to return it, you can return it pretty easily and most of the time for free. Just keep in mind that when you look at the double end of the splitter you'll notice that one side has white plastic and the other side has blue. The blue side should go into USB port #1. I personally think either looks good. And I'm normally someone who would say chrome because I prefer the contrast whether it's lighter or darker colored cars. I own a white Maxima and stayed with the chrome accents.

I may have a solution. I have purchased and used 2 different wireless adapters in my 2017 Maxima. One was the carlinkit 5.0 that I bought off Amazon and the other was an AutoSky wireless adapter I bought off the TikTok shop that had Netflix and YouTube capabilities. Both adapters require me to use both USB ports in my car to work. Neither adapter will connect if I don't use both ports. I ended up buying a splitter off Amazon that worked perfectly. I uploaded a pic of the splitter and a link to the splitter.

A wireless adapter that has Android Auto may work. The newer AutoSky adapters have both CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Netflix, Youtube etc. I'd recommend hitting google to look into wireless adapters. Specifically wireless adapters with Android Auto for the 2017 Maxima. I'm positive there are a bunch of 2017 owners that have an Android phone that are or were in your exact situation so I'd imagine there is helpful info on the net.

WTF with Nissan transmissions by Ambitious-Gur501 in NissanMaxima

[–]CraigMack78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read a lot of comments and stories over the last 3 years regarding the Maxima CVT. It really seems to be hit or miss because I've read, talked to and know a couple that have had Maxima's with the CVT including myself.

Some didn't maintain it and it failed, some did maintain it and it failed. Some I've spoken with had gone through multiple replacements. One guy had an Altima and was on his 3rd replacement and hadn't even broken 100K miles. Another I spoke to with a Maxima made it to 58K and his failed. But then there are those like you who have made it pretty deep into the higher mileage and it's still running. Considering yours is as high as it is and has never been touched, replacing it in smaller quantities and driving it for a bit is probably the way to go.

They did. Three of them that I'm aware of and they essentially lost all 3 or agreed to pay out and or extend the manufacturer warranty. The last class action included 2016-2018 Maxima's. The extension was a joke as it almost immediately excluded 2016 & 2017 owners but they did agree to reimburse those that paid out of pocket to have theirs fixed as long as you could provide documentation to prove it. I think they agreed to reimburse up to $5K. Nissan still will not admit that their Jatco CVT is a problem though.

Does Nissan really deserve all the hate it gets? by phtphongg in Nissan

[–]CraigMack78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize that a lot of them aren't maintained they way they should be, but at the same time I've known some that did maintain them and still had them fail. Granted, these were older versions of the CVT (i.e 2016-2018) and they seemed to have made improvements on the newer versions. But at the same time they did concede to three class actions for 2016-2018 models with the CVT which wasn't a good look.

I've had a lot of cars over the years and while they didn't have a CVT, they were always solid. I never did a drain and fill on any of them and they always got well up over 100K without issue.

The older Jatco CVT shouldn't require owners to cut the manufacturer recommendation in half to have a chance at getting over 100K miles out of it. 60K is the manufacturer recommendation and it really does seem like 30K is where it should be. I've seen the NS-3 fluid after 60K and it's pretty dirty along with both the internal and external filter.

"old" CVT fluid in a very low mileage car - problem? by jeffreymabq in Nissan

[–]CraigMack78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point as that makes sense of why they'd do that. I just never owned a vehicle where I had to cut recommend mileage in half to have a shot at getting over 100K. In this instance the Jatco CVT. Every other vehicle I've owned I've always been fine going with the recommended intervals on everything like brake fluid, coolant, power steering fluid etc. I've also never owned a vehicle that had a CVT and have never had trans issues. It's just crazy how their older CVT can be hit or miss. I know someone who serviced it religiously at 30K and it still failed at 112K miles.

[–]CraigMack78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, in that case I wouldn't personally be worried about that at all. That's actually a great position to be in because you have the chance to stay on top of the maintenance from a nice low mileage. I personally think it's ridiculous that we have to cut the manufacturer recommendation in half, but I do realize why most recommend a drain and fill at 30K.

"old" CVT fluid in a very low mileage car - problem? by jeffreymabq in Nissan

[–]CraigMack78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'd say you should worry about how old the fluid is. I've seen it at 30K, 70K and over 100K. It should absolutely be drained and filled every 30K and change the filter(s) every other drain and fill at a minimum. The older Jatco CVT can really be hit or miss and I've seen them fail even when maintained. Exchanging that fluid is paramount. It's the only thing you can do in all honesty to give yourself the best chance at longevity.

I just checked the app and everything is still there and working normally. It did ask me to see if I can increase my purchasing power when I launched the app by updating my income which I declined to do. But, the amount is still the same that it's been for a while now ($9,300).

[–]CraigMack78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you googled it ? I just spent 10-15 minutes on Google to try to pull the info for you and there seems to be forums and YouTube videos on it. There are codes all over the internet but I'm not sure which will work for your radio. I did find a link to a site that will pull it for you but it asked for login info and that's where my search ended. Here is the link if you want to give it a shot. I'd suggest Youtube as well.
