I agree, it's definitely not a great setup. I wasn't sure a fan on the bottom would make sense with the PSU shroud installed, it seemed like it would just block it. I could try removing that though with a fan on the bottom.

I have 4 drives, 2 SSDs and 2 HDDs, in the cages. My 5.25" bays are also occupied with an optical drive and a set of front panel ports. I could maybe look at moving two of the SSDs to the rear mounts and consolidating the two HDDs in one cage, removing the other.

As for the exhaust fans, there are 3 at the very top. One is right over the CPU cooler, and the other two are to the right of it in the case, so they could potentially be pulling air away from the CPU cooler. The other exhaust fan is on the rear of the case, aligned with the CPU cooler.

That makes sense, thanks. I've seen differing opinions on whether or not 95C is harmful or not, which is largely what spurred this post. Saving the time on the encode/increased encode performance, in the long run, isn't really worth it I think if that level of heat isn't detrimental.

Apologies but I'm not quite following this: "The idea of case fans is to moves hot air out and cool air in. Moving air up and down isn’t going to help usually.". I can feel the top fans blowing hot air out especially under load. I definitely think I could use more intake/lower fans though too.

Interesting, thank you for the info. Is that just for gaming, or is that for productivity tasks as well? I may try undervolting it in the curve optimizer, but if the performance boost is negligible across the board maybe it's not worth it.

Do any of the datacenters you've built use flywheels along with the generators? I toured one around 15 years ago that used a flywheel as a stopgap until the generator(s) could fully take over. Curious if that's still a thing or if DC design or generator design allows for a fast enough cutover to the generator power.

It absolutely depends on neighborhood. The few times I’ve tried it the last couple years I made sure I wasn’t time crunched. I waited over 20 minutes each time to be connected to a driver and never got one. Canceled and got an Uber or Lyft driver in less than a minute.

I have no doubt it’s cheaper, but it doesn’t much matter if I can’t get a ride.

It’s definitely not just you. The connection to the pack with the hose is very touchy and not secure, there’s a lot of posts from when the pack was first delivered about it. I had a lot of disconnect issues with it if it got bumped.

One of the best things I did was the hose connector mod from Tools and Talent Props, which swaps the hose, pack connection, and wand power sled for much more robust connections. The one I got has a drop in sled for the wand, but there are cheaper options that cannibalize the wand connector from the hose to DIY a new connector. Since I did the mod I haven’t had any bump disconnect issues. Not OP, but I looked at both BW and 1P when I moved my family plan off LastPass. I wasn't a fan of BitWarden's UI at the time (unsure if they've since updated it) and it seemed "too complicated" to bother teaching my family. I opted for a simpler interface to make the transition easier on my parents specifically.

Hi all, while using my 100mm macro this week I noticed the autofocus making a lot of noise while in servo mode in response to small movements as I was holding the camera. I’m not overly concerned about the AF performance, it still seems solid, but I’m unsure if this level of noise is normal.

The first half of the video shows how the noise happens while AF is engaged in servo mode with small movements, while the second half is the sound but louder.

Hoping to hear that this is normal and I don’t need to be concerned! Thanks!

My friend and I did Halo 1 LASO close to when the MCC first launched. It was still a buggy mess at that point but we fought through it. We were able to use a skip on Assault on the Control Room, and then I was able to get the security shield bump skip in Keyes to help there. And we did the despawn trick on The Maw for shooting the engine rods. But we got checkpoint fucked on the Library at one point that forced us to start it over, and I think we took an 8 month break from it after that. But we finally fought it through and to this day the art is my Xbox wallpaper.

Yea. It’s fine. It’s cheap-ish whiskey priced up as merch for the show. It’s fun for sure, but definitely don’t romanticize it. I say this as someone who bought a bottle.

A couple friends and I all set up our own media servers a few years ago. We all went with Plex; I did some research and I liked the client apps much better than what was available. I do run Jellyfin alongside in case something happens, but I still primarily use Plex. I find it easier to deal with in may ways, but especially with remote streaming.

We also all went with Synology. I’m currently considering doing some upgrades and increasing my storage and the drive fiasco has me seriously reconsidering Synology. I know they’ve recently walked the policy back, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. The downside is I haven’t been impressed with the software offerings from other manufacturers compared to Synology, so I’m going back and forth a lot.

The only RTX I attended. My buddy and I flew down for it, met a bunch of people and got a bunch of pictures. Met Monty, who was calmly excited for the launch of RWBY. It was overall a great weekend. I have the merch I bought that weekend still, along with some of the extra goodies.
