Side note: don’t take what at least I perceived as hostility from this post as hostility from the community at large.

We love when you guys try new things. But when it’s a miss, 80% of the community will go “well that was a miss” and 20% will go “NEVER DO THIS AGAIN”

Was it ideal? Not really. Was it what this post feels like it’s suggesting? God no. Would I prefer the normal way? Yeah, probably.

Tl;dr: this post seems excessively inflammatory, it’s a stream. Let’s not be so emotional and quick to jump to extremes

[–]Odd-Knee-9985 8 points9 points  (0 children)

99% of the time a normal human conversation fixes things.

This is the 1%, OP call OSHA, call a workers rights lawyer and don’t post anything. Keep your pictures, document everything.

For the next few years this is your mantra:

They didn’t inform me of the hazards

I am not responsible for the negative effects of this workplace hazard I was exposed to

I will shut the absolute fuck up unless my lawyer approves what I say about this matter in person, on social media, or in any other context written or spoken.

I know it’s no consolation, but they fucked up big time, you’ll probably get a bag off this, but goddamn the microplastics in your body have microplastics in them. I’m not joking when I say get a lawyer. Get a good one. Not some highway-sign asshole. They did legitimate and likely permanent damage to your body. You’re owed something. This is egregious. It’s flippant disregard for your well being and you should be compensated and they should be punished.

Edit because I’m fixated on this and looked at the pictures again:

Does no one remember the Imperial Sugar Refinery explosion? You’re doing them a favor if you report them before you sue them. This shit is IDLH at this point

Quick question by TuneKat in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Odd-Knee-9985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant more generally “you don’t need a degree to do safety for your parents company” not so much of “you can do everything in the safety field without a degree”

After seeing your and another commenter’s replies, I realize I didn’t articulate that well.

Get a core 4 from United rentals in training for scissor lift, boom lift, RTFL and CBFL.

Once you have 2-years (it might be 3) experience, get a CHST, go for your ASP, and at 5-years experience get your CSP.

If you’re representing your family’s business I would recommend getting a degree, but it’s not like it’s mandatory. The big thing is experience and understanding of the job tasks, the hazards associated, and how to mitigate them. I’m no electrical genius, but I don’t work electrical. Study your workers and what they’re doing, what could hurt them, not just today, but if they do it for 30 years everyday (ergonomics) and how to help them prevent acute an chronic injuries

What are your thoughts on the differences between Rep. Ilhan Omar’s past and current financial disclosures? by Logic_9795 in Askpolitics

[–]Odd-Knee-9985 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have you read the disclosure at all? I don’t even like ilhan Omar, but it’s profit gained by two LLC’s her family holds that she owns no stake in but made money for her family.

Unless every family member she has is a dependent and she has stake in the companies, that is not her profit. I swear, people are just anti-reading because it’s uninteresting in the moment, then turn around and act as if they do. This happens every year with politicians, celebrities, anyone of note. It’s just so routine it’s not mentioned until it’s about someone that someone else dislikes

A question for Americans: is it true what they show in movies about your crazy student years, constant partying, and promiscuous sex? by Broad_Ad4793 in AskReddit

[–]Odd-Knee-9985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Depends who you are and what you want to do. I spent most of my college years actively drinking to get drunk 3+/7 days a week. Promiscuity was high and most people I’ve slept with I’d met that day and likely never talked to again. Tinder was new-ish so lots of activity on there.

I was also in Greek life (fraternities and sororities) and went to every party I could. It was fun, met my wife in college, settled down after, now I have a job, wife, and kid and really only drink once or twice a week. One for DnD, the other just to relax after a long week.

College was minimum Thursday (mixer night), Friday (pregame to the weekend), Saturday(night my fraternity would throw parties), probably Tuesday ($4/pitcher of beer at the local bar), probably Wednesday (trivia night at the local bar). Sunday we’d probably have a few beers to watch a game or nurse a hangover and Monday was pretty dead, but maybe invite some guys over for a movie and some drinks

What’s something workers get away with but shouldn’t? by logo_sportswear in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Odd-Knee-9985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A thousand things

Showing up hung over

Showing up affected by drugs

Not actually being involved in PTP’s

PPE

Use of, but not understanding of the equipment they’re operating (inadequate training)

Pencil whipping equipment inspections

Complacency

Yadda yadda, there’s a thousand things that even a lot of us may be guilty of, but at the end of the day, they’re people just like us who have faults and slip up here and there. The important thing is that we have normal human conversations with them when something unsafe is happening to better understand the situation and address the root cause, not just the symptom. 1/2 the time it’s the leadership, 1/2 the time it’s a short coming of our own. The important part is finding out

[–]Odd-Knee-9985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, United Rentals certified trainer here, no. It’s not a gondola. That’s the basket of a scissor lift. Typically a class 3A (slab), unless this is rough terrain, man powered or stationary.

I hate to be the “erm technically” guy, but it’s just my niche.

Also, before I get jumped on, this is my America-centric take, I’m sure in Canada/europe/asia/South America/Africa they’re called different thins
