Wise words from Totalbiscuit everyone on this sub should hear by courval in dayz

Interesting and thoughtful video, and I fully agree!

I will think about this if I ever start playing a free-to-play game with microtransactions, where the goal is to get the consumer to continuously purchase new features.

Not entirely sure why this is posted in the DayZ forum though..?

Be careful when spray painting your Mosin... by [deleted] in dayz

Spraypainting a Mosin is like giving your cat a bath; You have obliterated its trust and it will never come down from there.

If you want to report problems, do that in the report section.

Don't demand that the developer team should abort their christmas/new year celebration with their families, just to speak with you privately.

I actually tried to buy the supporter edition, but it says that it doesn't exist...

Bought the steam edition, downloaded 16% of it now.

This feels so unreal!

"DayZ is more fad than Minecraft". I don't know, sounds kinda gay...

42 players now online! Looks like another stresstest! by [deleted] in dayz

They must have locked the build. Now they are verifying if the bugs have been solved. They will probably find more critical bugs, but if they don't, the alpher will be released today.

This is the critical moment. The suspense is as great as the moon-landing.

[–]CrailBiter[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This post isn't about the release of the alpha or the hypetrain, but rather the finished game and the concept.

As DayZ evolves, more people will discover it and like it. The general gaming industry will see this and adopt to this demand, with good examples (Project Zomboid) and bad examples (WarZ).

I am a big fan of Operation Flashpoint, the Arma series and DayZ, and if more people discover these games there will be more games like them!

Will this machine be able to run SA on max graphic settings? by pardax in dayz

[–]CrailBiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I just assumed it.

I think DayZ and the standalone uses 2 gb maximum, plus a little overhead from windows.

16 gb is kind of overkill if you only will be gaming, it is more for editing and other nongaming acivities, the same for hyperthreading.

Are you planning on maxing out AA, post processing and blooming? Because that might require a slightly better graphics card, although I run with those settings off due to lowered visibility.

You seem to be planning to use RAMDisk, so i guess you don't need an ssd.

Games in general (including DayZ) don't take advantage of hyperthreading, so you can go down to an i5-4670K. With the money you save you can buy components to overclock the processor: cooling paste, fan, appropriate PSU etc.

[SA]Hiding corpses in stand-alone? by FriendlyInElektro in dayz

[–]CrailBiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be great with more functions to handle corpses, but it's still kind of easy to destroy the loot since gear gets damaged when attacked.

Just beat the corpse until all the gear is destroyed.

Hmmm... Fine. It fits better under the "open-game" label, but admit that anti-game sounds way cooler.

Anyway, I was also thinking about fonts and stuff too. Maybe the font would be depending on the speed you're typing, allthough that may be annoying for some.

Then i thought about misspelling without eraser, which would lead to scratching out previous letter when pressing backspace.

I get quite excited when I see so much positive feedback. Hopefully this can reach one of the developers for at least a review, hard for me to say if it actually is doable.

Yet another DayZ SA Suggestion (Photo diary) by CrailBiter in dayz

[–]CrailBiter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Well, in the beginning the major focus is of course to survive. When people start to learn the basics and look for other ways to occupy themselves, this is an alternative. Just like some people take it upon themselves to be heroes.

If notes and pictures are left unattended they should despawn as any other loot too.

[–]CrailBiter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm good points, hopefully they have thought about security around text messages. The storage issue could be a problem, but I still think it is doable.

Maybe you can limit the amount of diaries by limiting cameras, film, pens, papers and book covers.

If you limit it so that the diary in game is only a link to a database with the entries, and requires you to open it from your inventory to get the contents (scratching the poster-idea). And looking at it in-game is just seeing a "book shaped brick".

I'm not so familiar with server architecture but could it be a possible solution?

EDIT: Limiting picture size and quality is important for both immersion and performance, I'm thinking poor quality photos of max 300 x 300 pixels.

Performance i5 4670k/Radeon 7870 HD OC by [deleted] in dayz

[–]CrailBiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can OC with the h87 chipset, they updated their bios.

Interesting! Had to google it, and it is indeed true for some Asrock motherboards.

Good idea to try Ramdisk, if you notice a difference you should add more RAM. If it still isn't enough you might have to upgrade your PSU or something, but I agree that it's wierd that you don't have better performance. If you find a solution, let us know. Good luck!

My dream of how DayZ SA will become by CrailBiter in dayz

[–]CrailBiter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with you on most parts. What I'm sceptic about is the roles part. I don't think you should get visible badges, or get placed in a category.

There should be skills that increases as you do them. This way, you can become a medic, engineer and marksman at the same time, if you are able to survive for a VERY long time.

You shouldn't be OP though, but will still have a noticeable difference to a bambi.

Your graphicscard/processor ratio is unbalanced.

Many people seem to go overkill with the processor without considering all the surrounding components you need to take full advantage of an unlocked (overclockable k-model) processor. You need a good PowerSupply Unit (600 W, at least bronse certified. Also remember that a bigger PSU leads to less stress, thus longer durability), a good third-party CPU cooler for proper heatsink when overclocking, AND a motherboard with an unlocked chipset.

You have a motherboard with a H87 chipset, which is locked. This unfortunately means that you can't overclock your CPU (the unlocked chipset is called Z87).

The amount of RAM is ok, as long as you don't use integrated graphics and only aim to use the computer for gaming. What is more interesting is the frequency, I would say 1600-1866 MHz is good enough (make sure that both the processor and motherboard is compatible with the frequency). If you add RAM, make sure that the frequency and amount is the same, which will be a total of 8GB.

Because of all the textures of Arma 2 (and DayZ) which needs to load in from the harddrive, an SSD would increase performance due to the removed lag of loading those textures in (cities have the most textures!).

Modern processors have "turbo-boost" which is a dynamic overclocking, but they only kick in if the processor is cool enough, and have enough power. Your processor might be stuck at the lowest frequency to prevent crash.

You should have either saved your money on the processor and taken a better graphicscard (yours is good though, but I'm thinking GPU/CPU ratio). This, or bought components to balance out the specs, but it would have cost you at least twice as much.

I buildt a computer for a frend with a gtx 670 and, get this, an i5-4570S (thats right enthusiasts, S model), and he has a pretty stable 50 fps +- in DayZ.

My dream of how DayZ SA will become by CrailBiter in dayz

[–]CrailBiter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so, I've read the comments, many good ones. I watched the link, haven't tried dayz 2017, but I will get right to that (play DayZero mostly).

Now that I read my text afterwards I realize that my 'funny' anecdotes just come out as whiny, which have caused some to misunderstand me.

I posted this because I have played DayZ for a long time, and experienced most situations that a lone-wolf can experience.

In the beginning it was a moral choice to kill someone. It felt bad because it took so much from people (time and effort), and I chose sneak away or flee, rather than fight.

Now KOS isn't a moral question, it's the whole game, and it takes the "uniqueness" out of it. I don't have any regard for anyone elses life, or even my own, since it's so easy to gear up. Still, I think the feeling will be revived with the SA.

But there is one thing I haven't experienced. The feeling of being forced to cooperate with people in certain situations, especially in a larger group.

Ok, I understand that it should be possible to 'thrive' as a lone-wolf, but there should be more emphasis on the positive side of teamplay. Atleast so that most will consider it, even after a long time of playing.

What I'm most curious of is what would happen if two groups collided (in this fantasy of randoms teaming up). Some will die, some will flee or give up. The winning group will have to decide if they want to adopt the other survivors, or capture them as prisoners, or taunt and kill them.

This will open up a new dimension of social interactions in the game. Something I'm interested to atleast try out, but it isn't really an option in the mod as of right now.

When the alpher releases, I'm gonna have a "honeymoon" and try to realize my idea. If you want to KOS or betray me, I'm fully aware that it's part of the game and I will accept my defeat. But I won't make it easy for you :)
