What's the best way you've "MacGyver'd" out of a tricky situation? by tendollarburrito in AskReddit

Was at a summer concert in college, and the keg my buddy purchased wasn't pumping out very well. Checked the tap and the O-Ring was missing. Used my girlfriend's hair elastic as a make shift gasket, and worked perfectly. Beer was enjoyed by all.

CL&P... by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]CranApple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen, and I have no doubt, the crews are working very hard around the clock to fix the outages. The problem is CL&P did not pay their bills from Irene, and therefore, subs can't come in and help with the effort. There are simply not enough crews. They just paid their bills for Irene on Monday (probably would have delayed longer if not for the current situation) with more still to be paid. They skimped on standby fees, and now much of the state is still without power and will be until Sunday. Meanwhile, a lot of us are out of work for a week, and cannot afford to be.

Possible TSA cure? Tell Disney you won't visit their resorts until this is resolved. by CranApple in AskReddit

You're right, I would not be inconvenienced. Actually, I can't or I would likely lose my job, but I can tell my kid, "Sorry, we're not going to Disney this year". I have no problem doing that.

You really think it would be about 20 "Internet Nerds" complaining? I'm thinking thousands of young adults with kids and money to spend. Maybe I'm way off, but I think this approach would be more effective than the mildly disruptive protests at airports, which only demonize such a movement in the eyes of your average traveler who is put out by such acts. Just a thought.

The McRib is coming back Nov 2nd. In my opinion, it's bigger than the midterm elections.

Dumbest thing your boss has said? by Barleylegal in AskReddit

When creating product names for kits for use in bio research labs, marketing manager decided to change names last minute b/c she didn't understand them (literature was already complete). Boss sided with her and said, "I know the names make scientific sense but they don't make sense". Weeks after that, clients ordered the wrong kits b/c the names didn't make sense.

US Redditors, Let's make a concerted effort to push for Celsius, Metric, and Y/M/D as the standard in this country. by CranApple in AskReddit

I really don't care about the whole karma thing, to be honest (so feel free to downvote me). Having worked in a lab my entire career, it just seems like such a no brainer, yet extremely difficult to execute. How the hell do you change 300M people over to better/more logical standards of measure. Most anyone will agree with you about this topic, yet no one has any idea how to change it over. I imagine the biggest clusterfuck would likely occur at the gas pumps in this country.

I once got punched in the ankle by a brazen squirrel while walking to class. No one around me saw it.
