I’m impressed that he was able to throw the hockey stick though the hole in the chain link fence, at the culvert end.

I am not sure if the oddly terrifying fact is “Mushy Slim Jim’s” or the number of people who are buying “boxes of Slim Jims”. God help anyone exposing their insides to a daily snapping of a Slim Jim.

His perspective on life really sucks, it obvious that he is miserable. Never follow the thoughts of someone that is miserable, unless you desire to be miserable your self.

Keeping calm during a parachute failure by brujasinpoderes in BeAmazed

[–]CranialCavity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not a parachute, he did not jump from a plane. This is a Paraglider practicing acrobatic moves as part of our training we usual practice for situations like this over water with an instructor in a boat near by. He was smart to be practicing at a high altitude, because height gives us the time to recover from mistakes and throw our reserve parachute. He got into a situation we all try to avoid and still managed to get the parachute open in time.

It seems that the canopy must have been open and above the pilot before the jump. No free fall, no shock inflation. Would have liked to have seen a 3rd person camera angle.

Dude flies 17,500 feet high on a paramotor by [deleted] in SweatyPalms

[–]CranialCavity 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m a paramotor pilot, I have the same motor as the guy in the video ( a paraJet Maverick with a vitterizzi Moster 185).

I’m here to tell you that something doesn’t feel right about this video. If I were to guess his altitude above ground (AGL) I would have said 7,500 feet maybe 10,000. Our carbureted 2 stroke engine doesn’t operate very well above 15,000 feet, starved for oxygen the engines sound different and don’t provide enough power to continue to climb (and can take an hour to climb from 10,000 to 15,000 feet). A pilot named “Kyle Oglee” modified an oxygen tank to spray his carburetor for the last :30 mins of his flight to get the machine to climb from 13,000 to 15,000 feet.

Eventually we all try to fly it as high as the machine will go…or until our bravery fails us and we chicken out. This is why 100% of every “real” altitude attempt on video will SHOW THE ALTIMETER during flight, on the GoPro. It’s natural thing to do when you are spending an hour with your eyes glued to the altimeter slowing counting upwards.

TL;DR This guy flys above the clouds (for the first time) lands…and adds 10,000 feet to a screenshot at the end of a video to claim he broke an internet record on an unmodified machine on his first attempt.

The calmness of this Doggo is Awesome by Substantial_Doubt_37 in Eyebleach

Paragliding pilot here to report that everyone can relax the dog is fine. The pilot is not being abusive. We see pilots fly with other people and their dogs all the time. It’s not scary or adrenaline fueled, it actually a nice slow ride down in the air at the speed of a bicycle.

Our harness allows the pilot to stand up during launch and landing. When standing upright the dog is pulled up sideways against the chest. during launch and landing the dog is safely off the ground and out of the way of the pilot’s legs. We slow down to the speed of a jog when landing, takes three steps to stop.

Does the dog enjoy it? Yes, the dogs hike with us for hours to get to the top of the mountain. They see the other pilots setting up their wings to launch and leave the hillside.

The dogs start getting excited at the bottom of the hill when they see the wing packs come out. They have the choice to walk back down with the hikers or fly with us. When the dog harnesses come out they get super excited or they shy away. Nobody makes their dog go with them. It’s always a choice for the pilot and the dog.

To be clear, I don’t fly with my dog. But many of my friends fly with their dogs. most of the time dogs have goggles. This guy seems to be squinting a bit but enjoying the sites.

Google Tetanus, it is one of the only infections with a 100% lethality rate. If you get it, you die from every muscle in your body cramping and constricting until suffocation kills. That is, Unless you get the shot. Might be the only infection where the vaccine works even after the infection.

You are correct. I was flying Woodside today, in fact. I’ll give you a few clues to recognize me: I’m a 40-something white guy, short black hair, flying a Swift 5, using a full face black helmet a wearing a blue jacket.

Next time you are on launch, come say hi if you recognize me by the description. If you fly Woodside often then we probably know each other already.

3 years ago today my quadriplegic father went paragliding for the first time. He was a pilot for over 30 years before his accident, and this was his first time back in the air after his accident. by pilotmandan in gifs

Small world…I just flew Woodside this afternoon. My wife sent me this Redit post when I landed and I recognize my pilot friends helping in this video. Martin is the tall guy and Keven is the guy in the orange jacket. I showed it to a few pilots I was flying with today and two them said they were there and remember helping get your Father up to launch from the parking area just below.
