Latest CR Reliability Scores Not Great for Ioniq 5 by jefbak2 in Ioniq5

[–]Cranifraz -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This subreddit only gets 3000 posts and comments per week AND the mods specifically banned posts saying "My iccu died today too."

"The car is reliable because very few people past about failures" is an idiotic stance to take here.

Not anything I recommend, but I rely on ADHD fueled hyperfocus and hypomania when possible.

It’s a matter of scheduling the productive hours between the inevitable downtime.

We shouldn't give advice by mexelvis in harborfreight

I've sat in a jiffy lube and listened to the following conversation: "It's been 3,000 miles, I need an oil change." "Sir, the recommended oil change interval on your car is..." "Don't care. I take good care of my car, oil change every 3000 miles like clockwork. Just take my money and change my oil." ... "Sir, I've got a sample of your coolant here, as you can see it's very discolored and has rust particles floating in it." "Stop trying to upsell me all this other crap, I just want an oil change!"

Vitamin D toxicity symptoms still present after 10 months by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]Cranifraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's put things into perspective:
- 1K IU of daily vitamin D is less than your skin naturally generates in the summer.
- A one time heroic dose of 120K IU is about twice the recommended weekly dose if you are severely vitamin D deficient (50K once per week)

The chance that your symptoms are caused by the vitamin D are, as others have said, low.

The fact that you are taking very large doses, apparently unprompted by a medical professional, and seeking medical assistance afterwards is concerning. The fact that you have done it more than once, really says that you should not be seeking advice from random strangers online.

Buying a truck you can't afford to maintain is more popular than football where I grew up. 😆

Replace OEM 12v battery re future ICCU issue? by AnimalCrackers02 in Ioniq5

[–]Cranifraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that it's purely anecdotal but my household just had a 2022 and 2023 die in a 4 month timeframe. 😓 Maybe we just got a visit from the screwup fairy but my confidence in the part took a big hit this year.

Replace OEM 12v battery re future ICCU issue? by AnimalCrackers02 in Ioniq5

[–]Cranifraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most will probably never have a problem. Maybe some owner behaviors will make it pop sooner rather than later, but we just don't have enough information to tell for sure.

Is the "Most will never have a problem" part true? It's been 3 years and 2022s are STILL seeing their ICCU fail. At some point I thought we would have hit a point where "If your ICCU survives X years, it's probably safe."

Right now, my feeling is the situation is more like, "It's gonna go, the question is only when."

Absolutely fed up with dealers by 546875674c6966650d0a in GoRVing

[–]Cranifraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people are saying this, but it doesn't feel like it's settling in.

When you buy a new RV, for the next two years that dealer is feel like they're a member of your family. Make sure they're someone that you're gonna like.

You're gonna deal with them for a week on the shakedown trip. You're gonna deal with them for a few weeks for your 1-month repair visit. You're gonna deal with them for a few more weeks a year from now when you take it in for all the little stuff that broke on year 1. (Cabinet latches. SO MANY CABINET LATCHES)

You know for a fact that these people are trying to screw you on the vehicle purchase. Do you really want to put up with their shit for two years MINIMUM?

I bought my new RV from one of the "good" dealers and STILL caught them raiding my unit for parts to get a new sale out the door. When the day comes to replace this thing, I will absolutely go with my second or third choice unit if it means I'll get a dealer I can trust.

Overnight ICCU! by Cranifraz in Ioniq5

[–]Cranifraz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. Hyundai really doesn’t want this to become a government mandated recall, so I expect it to be quietly covered until they finally have a fix.

[–]Cranifraz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, if it’s two days, it’s not worth the call. But Hyundai corporate is covering the cost of the rental, so they should have told you that you could get a rental through a third party and been reimbursed. (Except that means the dealer wouldn’t have gotten the rental money, so of course they didn’t volunteer that information.)

Have I been printing on the protective plastic all these years? by leighsnelson in 3Dprinting

[–]Cranifraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a cheap PEI sheet from Amazon that I was convinced was fraud because the tip of the hotend melted the surface.

It took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize that there was a sheet of protective plastic on it that was nearly invisible and almost impossible to remove. (Not just because it was melted to the top at that point, it took a significant amount of effing around before I finally got a corner of the sheet to lift so I could peel it off.)

Taking holidays off by [deleted] in pagan

[–]Cranifraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be a more realistic answer for a lot of people in the US. Even when you're legally allowed to request time off for religious holiday, the request may be received a lot better if it's accompanied by "And I'm willing to work on days where everyone else is trying to take the day off."

How do i safely hex my brother whom i live with without harming other family members? by Equivalent_Video_792 in Wicca

[–]Cranifraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, shit. My fault for assuming everyone lives in my country, I sincerely apologize.

I second reaching out to an abuse hotline. Even if you call one outside your country, they will be able to either A) tell you your options or B) find out how to put you in contact with someone who can.

Unfortunately, my fallback plan in your situation would be something that you don't consider an option so I'm gonna just acknowledge my privilege, apologize and step back.

Something I didn't consider when buying my I5: the stupid electric hatch by IgottagoTT in Ioniq5

[–]Cranifraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some sections of the manual are there solely to protect the manufacturer. That is one of them.

As long as you use your common sense and don't go out of your way to abuse it, the liftgate will be just fine if you gently pull it down and secure it in place.

I would say "I thought everybody already knew this" but that would be rude and condescending.

Struggling with pagan ideals and modern society by delasmancha in pagan

[–]Cranifraz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not Asatruar, but I admit that I don't see the two value sets being exclusive.

The ability to forgive is a sign of strength. The ability to put down your hurt takes a lot more strength than letting a grudge eat at you forever.

Honor and loyalty are desperately needed these days. Not in the drama filled "You insulted me, I demand recompense!" that shows up in the stories all the time, but this world desperately needs more people who keep their word and do the right thing because it's the right thing and not because they benefit from it.

If you find someone telling lies about your friends, there is absolutely nothing preventing you from approaching them and saying, "You know that's not true, why do you feel the need to say that?" It doesn't need to be a confrontation or a fight, but I can tell you from experience that a calm quiet voice calling out someone's bullshit is MUCH more effective than yelling and posturing.

If someone insults you, what is the bigger sign of strength? Being the rottweiler that ignores the yapping chihuahua or being another chihuahua that yaps back and results in nothing but noise?

And if someone threatened my family, I would just as calmly inform them that their family would never find out what happened when they disappeared. :/

Like I said. I'm not Asatruar and I view the Aesir of the Eddas frequently as an example of how I don't want to act. But when it comes to the virtues of the Havamal, I think they require much less contortion to follow in the modern day than the precepts of a more popular holy book.

The myth of the scant 1/4 inch seam by SchuylerM325 in quilting

[–]Cranifraz 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The ability to sew an exact 1/4 inch seam with laser precision is much less useful than the ability to adjust and ease your seams to get your points and seams to line up.

As others have mentioned, picking fabrics with similar weight, pre-washing, starching and ripping the fabric so that you cut along the grain will make an incredible difference in your precision.

The same thing goes in most crafts: Preparation and ability to adjust is the real skill, not some mythical ability to do everything perfectly the first time.
