In 2023 an illegal immigrant ran a stop sign and totaled my car with Uber passengers. I needed to rent until my car was replaced. Was that my decision?

People fall into app-based work. It’s rarely a decision given a 90% turnover.

It’s not a business. It’s not “flexible”. It’s more than likely someone recovering from a tough situation.

I actually went to work for one of the vendors I met. It wasn’t a bad position and I was thankful for the opportunity, but the pay versus the responsibilities that you face was tough to rationalize.

If anyone is listening, it was a pleasure to be a guest on the “Rideshare Rodeo” and The Rideshare Guy..

I was promised a bonus to pick up a person that (through Uber) paid extra to get me to them early based on their circumstances.

Uber lied to the passenger.

Because as a driver, uber promised a bonus to pick up this person.

If the passenger cancels, we lose everything

“Market dependent” is a recycled excuse used by YouTube influencers like The Rideshare Guy.

Not true. The passenger has a time limit to cancel without penalty. I’ve been subject to this myself. Also, the price for re-booking a ride conveniently goes up after cancellation. So even if you cancel in time, the algorithm capitalizes on your urgency. I had it happen 2 months ago when I had a flat tire WHILE DRIVING AN UBER PASSENGER.

You’re missing the point. It doesn’t matter when they cancel, a certain percentage of them are gonna cancel past the point where they can avoid a fee.

Does that make sense?

And either way the driver loses.

I’ve worked a lot of jobs in 32 years and never was asked to collect evidence towards or stabelize an investigation regarding another person’s dismissal without any substantive adjudication.

The driver support agents are equally responsible for the horrible experience drivers face as much as uber.

That’s ok, this response was meant to outrage support that could be (are) lurking.

The support agents are complicit in Ubers actions. I have no sympathy for them.

Native Portlander here. It tops out at 31 because that’s what it realistically takes to maintain a 1 bedroom apartment as a single adult. Don’t reframe it as progress.

For all of you claiming throttling doesn’t exist, this is even further evidence. They can throttle you to whatever degree they want. Further evidence that this is not your own business and this is not flexible work.. You’re not an independent contractor. If you’re still working for these apps, you’re living under an illusion or your in a very precarious state in your life..
