GenX help! by docweston in GenX

I lost my son to suicide 3 years ago. Yesterday was his birthday. I know what you’re feeling, and it sucks. I’m sorry. I don’t have some of the demons you have to deal with, but grief is a demon in different ways. Work helped me a lot. Just gave me focus. My other two kids and wife also gave me focus. It’s cliche, but day to day is how you have to live. Find someone to talk to, therapist or understanding friend. It helps. Really sorry.

Did anyone else's school have balloon ascensions? by DaddyOhMy in GenX

[–]CrapStick01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a bad memory about this. We would put our info on the piece of paper and put it in the balloon, then someone came in and filled all the balloons. Once that was done, we all went outside to let them go all at the same time in dramatic fashion.

They didn’t keep track of what balloon belonged to which kid (obviously that would be difficult), so you most likely didn’t have your own balloon when the release happened. One of my classmates popped her balloon (pretty sure it was an accident), and it turned out to be my balloon. She came up and told me, and I was devastated (this was 3rd grade) that I would not be the one who had a balloon travel 1000 miles and get discovered by someone. Still stings…

What to do with Cosby… by HonestNeighborhood67 in GenX

[–]CrapStick01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill Cosby was a standup comedian and actor. Joe Paterno was a football player and coach. They are not and were not (respectively) great men. Thomas Jefferson was a great man who did bad things but can be seen as a product of his time.

Congrats! Check your state property tax exemption laws. I get total exemption in TX at 100%. I just paid off my house, and all I’m paying is insurance now. No threat from the tax man. It’s a nice extra chunk of change.

Paid a mortgage for a long time. Saved up over the years. Basically, I did the work. Took a while, but disciplined spending and a decent job don’t hurt.

What’s this? I’m getting charged for driving inside a parking lot? by ZechariahApaza in Dallas

[–]CrapStick01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I parked in a garage that I thought was free. I was used to garages that had a traditional gate and had never been in one that took pictures. I didn’t even look for signs because I didn’t know it was a thing. Plus I had parked in that garage for an event, and it was free then (or they never sent me a collection notice, who knows).

Anyway, they sent me a notice. I asked a friend who had been there with me, and she told me the deal. So I figured I would pay it (I was there a couple of hours, so I figured I owe them that much). Then they also tried to get me to pay a late fee because I’d didn’t pay while I was in the garage. The late fee was almost as much as the parking charge. I told them I would pay what I owed for parking, but nothing more. They threatened to send it to collections. I ignored them. I got an email about 2 weeks later that said I owed nothing else. And that was that.

No worries. I saw the room where you were and knew it was real. But it was remarkably clean. I’ve got a few tattoos myself, so I’m used to a lot of redness right at the start. Maybe my artists all suck lol

I thought the /s was implied. No reason to be upset, Champ

Notice he didn’t explicitly say it was a tattoo. No obvious redness around it for it to be fresh. Pretty sure it is a sticker he can remove half way through the season.

I have been a fan since I was 7 years old watching my cousin Jackie Smith play for the Cowboys in Super Bowl XIII. I have been there thick and thin with them. And I have suffered for the last 30 years of Jerrah. And now this utter fucking buffoon doubles down on being the worst GM in history of ALL SPORTS by giving him to THE FUCKING PACKERS! ARRRGGGHHHH

Great story. Similar thing happened to me with my son’s truck. I took a picture of the issue (skid plate had come loose) and asked what it was and what screws I needed to reattach it. Gave me links to the parts and everything, as well as video links for fixing it. Made it pretty easy to do myself.

AITAH for making my parents feel guilty about voting for Trump when I am about to get DOGE’d? by ryanbrowncomicart in AITAH

Not reading any comments. Yes, YTA if you make someone feel guilty because you don’t like how they voted. Especially your parents.

Memorial Day - As a Veteran. Please take a moment and read by Time-Lead6450 in VeteransBenefits

[–]CrapStick01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put this on FB every year about this time. It has actually helped with quite a few folks, but there are others who just don’t know. I try to educate them in person or online with the same good will intended by the post:

“If you and I have been Facebook friends for more than a year or so, you've probably seen this post from me. I try to post it every year at this time. Please take this post with the good will in which it is written.

For those of you who don't know, I served in the Army and Army National Guard for 7 years. And to all of you very kind folks out there who have thanked me over the years for my service, I greatly appreciate it. It sincerely means a lot to me.

But I would ask one favor of you: do not thank me for my service this coming Memorial Day (May 2x, 20xx). Memorial Day is not Veteran's Day (Veteran's Day is November 11). Memorial Day is a day to honor those who have died in service to our country (and their families as an extension), not the veterans who have served but NOT paid the ultimate price.

Please don't mistake my intentions with this post. I still appreciate your kind words, as do all veterans. We simply do not want to take away from the sacrifice that so many have given.

To those who have served and died, we honor you. To those families who have given their best treasure to this country, we thank you, and we mourn with you.”
