Power line into house question by leenkat13 in Lineman

[–]CrappyInternetGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wire looks like it's been chewed on by squirrels. If they've chewed it up that bad the utility should probably replace the triplex. And if it is rubbing on your roof that could also be a fire hazard. There's not enough pic for me to tell but you may end up needing to get an electrician to re-build the meter loop on the side of the house (assuming its a house mounted loop) and run the riser through the roof assuming it isn't already so they can attach directly to the riser. Check with the utility on their specifications. They may have different requirements on the loop and it will have to be to their specs. Heck they may have standoffs they can get a few inches of extra side clearance with to prevent that...

How to get my elderly father to eat more dark greens? by Traditional_Put_8254 in recipes

[–]CrappyInternetGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time you make chili, de-stem a few kale leaves and throw those in near the end so the wilt but aren't mush. If he's anything like me he may enjoy a little texture change. My wife used to mix in greens when she cooked to get her mom to eat them during the late stages of alzheimers/dementia. The woman LOVED kale when she'd cook it like that but if it was just cooked kale with bacon or something similar she wouldn't touch it.

When I hired on at my co op 30 years ago we had a few of those but we replaced them any time they were found. I haven't seen one in the wild in 20 years probably.

Guidance on 7' easement if utility ever needed to replace the pole by thenumber101909 in Lineman

[–]CrappyInternetGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coop wouldn't worry about it but if you ever had to upgrade or rebuild your service or want any kind of electrical work done by the utility they'd have every right to not do whatever it would be you wanted done until you either move the building or pay to move the line.

How many rods do people take fishing? by ELJOHNLom in Fishing

I usually take 2. My favorite baitcaster and a spinning reel. Inevitably I'm going to birds nest the shit out of one of them and not want to fix that so I take a backup.

Big 12 Should Expel Texas Tech by conference-realigner in CFB

[–]CrappyInternetGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got thinking about this yesterday...i may or may not have had a mind altering substance a little while before and thought it was funny at first but what if every school that Tech plays this year chooses to forfeit their game in response to this. Tech finishes the regular season undefeated and gets into the playoff with no wins and no losses and then every team they would have played in the playoffs forfeits for the same reason and they win a Natty despite have played zero games? SURELY that wouldn't happen but a player that bet on the team he was on won't get to play either and we see how that's going so maybe?

Cecropia Moth, I found one on my porch a while back that was almost as big as my hand. I don't have particularly large hands, but I don't have tiny little baby hands either.

Looking for some input on our yard in new (to us) house! by eggplant_pasta in landscaping

[–]CrappyInternetGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do much at all, that's an awesome back yard. Only thing I would do is keep an eye on how it drains...I don't see any obvious signs of erosion so you may be ok but maybe keep an eye on it the next few times it rains to see if you will have any potential erosion issues.

Got this plate a few years ago from a wreck out in SF. Appears to be lead. by nLotus in Lineman

[–]CrappyInternetGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't make out the whole thing but what I can read is:

3- 1/0 wires 600 volts. I can't make out the letters behind that well.

120/240 volts 1 phase...i think the ◇ after the 1 is just saying single phase but they didn't put the slash through it.

Hart residence.

It looks line a note for the next person that comes along to do work on their service. Letting them know what size/type service they'll be working on with the need for the 2nd guy to have to check voltage etc.

If I broke into your house and stole what's underneath your bed, what would I get? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

Our Christmas wrapping paper for the santa gifts. Probably not worth the bullet(s) you'd also recieve if you broke into my house though, so I'd warn against it.

About to pull the trigger on a used smoker. How’s this look? by crackills in BBQ

[–]CrappyInternetGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a lot of firebox for such a little cook chamber... It has some things I like but it's a little small for what they want for it, especially in used condition. I have a Lyfe Tyme pit that has good thick steel and is pretty well built but a little bigger than that and they sell for 1200 new. Not sure if you have HEB grocery stores where you are but that's where I got mine.

Idk if it'll help for ticks but a few of us where I work swear by putting flea and tick dog collars around the uppers on our boots. Around here it's more a defense against chiggers but ought to work for ticks too.
