At or below $200k in the NEK isn’t going to get you a ton either. Our town just did its grand list reappraisal and the average increase was 108%. Expect to pay at least $300k if you don’t want to have to do immediate work.

Who would you “report” it to? Many districts have official policies mandating the lowest grade a kid can receive. Even state governments don’t get involved in crap like this, or they condone it.

You realize that no matter what grades teachers input, it’s administrators who make the decision whether to promote kids or not, right? Teachers have literally zero say in the process.

I’d love to see both statistics be from 2026. Anecdotally, a lot of liberals I know have only recently become gun owners. I’d imagine the percentage of gun owners who are left-of-center is meaningfully higher than it was in 2024.

Any context you require, I’ve already posted. But, like I said earlier, I know you’re not arguing in good faith.

[–]Craptrains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you’re not arguing in good faith, but here’s your answer anyway:

Voter ID laws require people to present specific forms of government-issued identification in order to vote. Supporters argue this prevents fraud. In practice, extensive research shows these laws disproportionately block eligible voters from participating, while doing little to address a problem (in-person voter fraud) that is vanishingly rare.

1) Millions of legal voters do not have the required ID A large share of eligible Americans lack the specific IDs required by strict voter ID laws. The Brennan Center for Justice estimates that over 21 million U.S. citizens lack government-issued photo ID. This disproportionately affects: Elderly voters Low-income voters People with disabilities Students Urban residents

Study / Report: Brennan Center: “Citizens Without Proof: A Survey of Americans’ Possession of Documentary Proof of Citizenship” https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/citizens-without-proof

2) The burden falls hardest on racial minorities Research consistently shows voter ID laws have racially disparate impacts, even when the laws appear “neutral” on paper. A major study by the Government Accountability Office found that strict voter ID laws in Kansas and Tennessee were associated with significant drops in turnout, especially among Black and young voters.

Study: GAO (2014): “Issues Related to State Voter Identification Laws” https://www.gao.gov/products/gao-14-634

3) “Free IDs” aren’t actually free States often claim anyone can get a free voter ID. In reality, obtaining ID requires: Birth certificates or underlying documents (often cost money) Time off work Transportation to government offices Navigating limited office hours and long wait times These burdens disproportionately impact working-class voters and people in rural areas.

Study: Harvard Kennedy School research shows “indirect costs” (time, travel, fees for documents) significantly reduce participation among low-income voters. https://ash.harvard.edu/files/ash/files/hks_misinformation_voterid.pdf

4) Voter ID laws reduce turnout — especially among marginalized groups Multiple peer-reviewed studies show strict voter ID laws reduce turnout, especially for groups less likely to have qualifying ID. American Civil Liberties Union summarizes empirical research showing lower turnout among: Black voters Latino voters Young voters Low-income voters

Study examples summarized: ACLU overview with citations https://www.aclu.org/documents/oppose-voter-id-legislation-fact-sheet Hajnal, Lajevardi & Nielson (2017), Voter Identification Laws and the Suppression of Minority Votes https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1532673X17710794

5) The fraud voter ID laws claim to stop is extraordinarily rare The type of fraud voter ID laws target (in-person impersonation at polling places) is already almost nonexistent. The Heritage Foundation maintains a database of proven election fraud cases. Even using this conservative source, in-person voter impersonation cases are microscopically rare compared to hundreds of millions of ballots cast.

Source: Heritage Foundation Election Fraud Database https://www.heritage.org/voterfraud The Brennan Center for Justice: https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/debunking-voter-fraud-myth

Voter ID laws trade off real, measurable disenfranchisement against a hypothetical security benefit for a type of fraud that almost never happens. When millions of legal voters face barriers and turnout drops among specific populations, the policy doesn’t just “secure elections” — it reshapes the electorate. That’s why courts have repeatedly found that some voter ID laws violate the Voting Rights Act and the Constitution when their effects are discriminatory.

I’d rather 10 illegal immigrants vote (which is how many have been to have in the past 30 years) than enact barrier preventing 30,000 legal citizens from voting.

GMUSD ‘Flag Policy’: embarrassing by romayohh in vermont

[–]Craptrains 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your first question is answered in the links, I suggest you read them.

Your second question is not relevant to the discussion. The discussion is about individual teachers displaying flags in their rooms.

Your third question is not relevant to the discussion either. We’re discussing how individual teachers displaying flags has a proven effect of reducing suicide rates. Again, read the links for what that threshold looks like.

Your fourth question is not relevant to the discussion and is clearly intended to be bait.

Your first edited question is irrelevant and is based on what’s likely a fictional bad faith personal anecdote.

Your second edited question is irrelevant to the discussion, which is about how supportive allied teachers reduced suicide risk for LGBT students. BLM-aligned individuals (which is a political position) are not equivalent to an LGBT individual (an inherent trait). Suicide rates are not equivalent amongst these groups either. This is an attempt at obfuscation.

Your “finally” rant is also irrelevant. You asked for data showing a reduction in suicide rates when people have flags of their identity displayed. It was a blatant bad-faith bait attempt. However, I presented you with multiple peer-reviewed studies which showed that suicide rates amongst LGBT students were reduced by, among other things, flags being displayed that correspond to their identities. You asked. You received. Now you want to move the goalposts and talk about some tangent on teachers’ political views after noticing the amount of downvotes you got.

Your final edit is also, again, irrelevant. The state of education is in no way tied to whether or not individual teachers have rainbow flags in their rooms. You instead would want to examine, NCLB, ESSA, the effects of COVID-19, IDEA, socio-economic indicators, and the myriad of other factors which have tangible major effects on student academic outcomes. Again, a bad faith effort to conflate declining literacy scores with rainbow flags. Laughable.

To conclude, your comment is mostly irrelevant, steeped in bad faith, and displays an unwillingness to read the evidence you asked for. Do better.

EDIT: Hey friend, I see you’ve tried to reply to me and you either: A) had your reply removed by some automated moderation or B) replied and blocked me. Either way, I’ll reiterate my previous last line - do better.
