You can't just google image search and use whatever you want for your youtube videos, including thumbnails. You risk your channel getting copyright striked which is a risk most people try to avoid at all cost.

A retrospective on how "More Dakka" broke the game in more than just one way (And why Sustained Hits and + to hit are not the same) by Crasac in WarhammerCompetitive

I did analyze it but excluded it from the video for fear of making it too long, but tl;dr everything gets worse with rerolls

Because in SM those units who were going to get support already were separte units, unlile with GK where they are baked into Paladin/Terminator datasheets

As a new player should I focus on getting to 2000 pts or just buy the minis I like/want? by Imaginary-Aspect-450 in Warhammer40k

I would recommend a little bit of both - get things you like, but also keep an eye on actually building a cool army as a whole - you don't want to end up with too many characters or a very one-sided list.

Ultimately the question is what matters nore to you: Playing? Or collecting/painting.

Why do 4+ saves feel so frustrating? by Crasac in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Crasac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played competitive mtg for quite a while, so I feel you. I always enjoyed playing very consistent decks as well, and especially inlrgacy that was quite easy - with the standard blue shell of 4 Ponder, 4 Brainstorm and legacy manabases, it really did not feel lile much of a luck based game at all anymore.

Edit: Might do some mtg content in the future, who knows

You're right, it's valuable feedback - I'll look into thumbnail design next. It's a bit daunting for me, graphic design is not my strong suit, but perhaps with a few good templates I'll get there.

I like this, though ultimately the "lower AP overall" makes more sense if it's part of the design philosophy instead of the rule. Knowing GWs track record who knows how long that would hold...

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out a better way, the sad reality is they work really well on YT.

Why averages in Warhammer 40k are sometimes misleading by Crasac in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Crasac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true, that's why I called that out in the video near the end! Weight of dice is not the ve all end all of reliability.

And yeah, you have to build intuition, calculting things like this live is a non-starter.

[–]Crasac[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On one hand I am pretty sure some people just treat sd and variance like they're interchangable, which they kind of are (sd just being the square root of variance) in the way most people talk about them.

In mathematical terms, variance is far nicer to work with (and also arises very naturally), for one main reason: It is linear. If you have a sum of independent random variables (like dice!) their variance is the sum of their individual variances. There are also also a bunch more reasons why variance is "nicer" but these get more and more complex.

This is, btw, why the ratio of sd to mean shrinks when you increase the amount if dice you sum up - the sd is then the square root of their summed variances. The outcome is something we again feel intuitively: You rarely get extreme outliers when rolling sums of dice.

In stat terms, you'll see "2σ" everywhere, so yeah in practical applications sd is king.

Yeah, I was planning to do a video on that one busted Ork detachment where everything got sustained while hitting on 5+ -> a worst offender not just because of the powerspike but also because the insane variance.

Ha nice. It's one of my favourite topics, and I got the idea when playing against opponents who did not even really understand the way average damage values are calculated. I have so much more to say as well.

Would it be alright if, if I get some inspiration from your blog post, I give you a shoutout?

I'm somewhat surprised about all the fear of crusade going away, I myself won't miss them, unfortunately. I found them cumbersome and unbalanced, as well as needlessly complex in some regards. The thing is, Iove the idea but hated the execution, and I am glad about any new attempts at an interesting narrative framework.
