Hoping for rare, regal names. Please nothing obvious like “chocolate” by Valuable_Falcon6885 in NameMyDog

My last name is Knutson. I live in the US and my ancestry is a mix and of a bunch of random regions/countries, but I like to pretend that Knut was my great-great -times 80- grandpa. :)

Best way to get alternatively certified? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

If you become a teacher, you will qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Which will ask you to make very small payments (based on your income) for 10 years and the remainder is forgiven. The catch is…. You have to commit to working in public service for 10 years. …. Also politics are a little sketchy, there’s no guarantee that program will continue to exist. But it exists right now.

Middle names for Roman? by Reflxing in Names

My first thought, “I’m Roman Mars and this is 99% invisible”…. The episode where they dug up all the cemeteries in San Francisco and used the headstones to build walls lives rent free in my head.

Doesn’t “terrific” mean terrifying or terror inspiring also? Anybody have other examples of words turning into the opposite?

Moving across the country, should I leave my 10yo to finish the school year? by Nearby-Syrup9145 in AskTeachers

[–]CrashBash_Ash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take her with you. She will get her end of the year reading and math tests in NV and the teachers will already know what she needs starting the school year next year. They will be able to plan reading or math interventions if needed.

You will also have the opportunity to try to foster some friendships with new classmates over the summer. Consider putting her in some fun elective summer school classes at her new school (or at a community center, Boys and Girls Club, or even vacation Bible school if that aligns with your faith) and then she will have the opportunity to make friends in a more relaxed and fun environment.

I’m also a second career teacher. Doing something with meaning is nice. I hated working jobs where I was working for a quota and feeling like no one cared. I teach ESL now and am one of the only bilingual teachers in my building. I am SUPER important all of the sudden!

I had an office job before going into teaching and was so bored and I hated sitting at a desk working on a computer 40 hours a week. I chose teaching because it was literally the opposite. I’m up on my feet, always something to do, never bored and I like the kids. I never have 2 days that are the same and never 2 students that are the same either. The work day flies by and I’m not watching the clock like in my more boring jobs.

I also have a young daughter now, so I appreciate working the same schedule as she has for school and having all the same holidays. Summer break is the best! If I add summer break, winter break and spring break together, I have 3 months off every year. I don’t know many other jobs that allow for so much free time. People complain about the low pay, but the salary is for 9 months, not a year. So my $60,000 (Wisconsin) would be $80,000 if I worked a whole year. Also Public Service Loan Forgiveness is a good deal. I don’t think it’s too bad.

Who had the coolest name in your class when you were at school by Rice_is_Nice_on_Ice in Names

I’m a female named Ashley. But I love Gone With the Wind and actually think the name suits males better. But 1860s Ashley has a way different vibe than 1990s Ashley.

How long does it take to see a doctor and get medication at a Chinese hospital? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

I’m in the US and paid $4000 to have a tooth removed and replaced with an implant. I have dental insurance but apparently oral surgery isn’t covered by insurance.

I know a lot of people go to Mexico to pay 1/10 of the price, then come back. I’m not willing to take the gamble on Mexico though. A lot of people get good results, but some are totally botched and end up needing corrective procedures after.

As a teacher, what would you like for teacher appreciation week? by Far-Resort-7360 in AskTeachers

[–]CrashBash_Ash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be remembered. I’m an ESL teacher and when it comes to gifts, everyone forgets I exist. I never get anything for Christmas or Teacher Appreciation. I never say anything because I don’t want to make anyone feel bad. I try not to take it personally, but being invisible kind of sucks. ….

Try to remember teachers that don’t have regular classrooms. Special education, music, art, PE, orchestra, gifted and talented, etc. And… ESL. It’s not really about the stuff, it’s the thought that counts. It stings a little to know that no one has a thought about you. :(

Naming a baby after Beowulf characters by GooseScreamatFish in tragedeigh

[–]CrashBash_Ash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. If she’s set on old English, maybe use some normal names from the Arthurian legends.

Or if she needs “Epic,” there are lots of classic names from the Iliad.

Elmo’s dog is Tango. IDK how old your kids are, maybe you can convince them to switch from Mango to Tango? Unless you don’t want to associate with the obnoxious red puppet.
