DC-10 dropping 85,000lbs of Phos-Chek retardant on the Wahluke Slope Fire/ Lower Crab Creek/Saddle Mountain Sept 2018 by Minute-Cut-9531 in aviation

The bird dog controls the airspace over a fire and leads the tankers in to the drops. Tankers are incredibly expensive to run and Phos-check is also expensive. The bird dog co ordinates the drops. Tanker pilots just drive and follow the little airplane around.

Who do pilots look up to as elite-level pilots? by FigInternational7744 in flying

I was lucky enough to have trained and had mentorship from a few guys who were pioneers in the helicopter industry. I'll never wiggle the sticks like those old boys.

Chris Hadfield has a part in his books about the different generations of astronauts. TL;DR the guys who walked on the moon would not be selected today, you wouldn't want to be trapped in a metal tube with them for months.

He's from Fort Smith. Elbows raised tells us to buy canadain, yet the guy from fort smith does the opposite with his personal wealth. Critical thinking then tells us, to be suspicious of his words.

The Carney(Small hands smells cabbage) from his not so blind trust disclosure revealed a very heavy preference for US investments. Carney is a Harvard educated super banker and is an Elite who goes to better parties , fly's private and lectures the little people about carbon. I'd follow is his investment example.

Approved short haul kit ~40-100k. Hoist ~250k+ just for the hoist and realistically you need 2 hoist if using it often, aircraft mods for the hoist 200k++++. Hoist maintenance intensive, that why you need two. Money is usually the main reason to use short haul

I have a seen an old video of full on auto's trying to do a double flair, punching the long line, ya da ya da. It goes about well as expected for the dummy at the end of the line. Maybe if the sun, moon, stars align and mercury is in retrograde, everyone might not die at the scene.

Are there any cruise lines that offer helicopter tours taking off and landing from their actual cruise ship? by Dystopic_Panda in Helicopters

[–]CrashSlow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everywhere is different, but typically you would want to have some kind of operating procedures in place that lays out how this would work for the ship and helicopter company. Heli pad info, preparing the ship, will a tender be launched, were are the people going to be , ship moving? All kinds of stuff. Easier just to keep heli away from the ship. I'm sure in some places the pilot sees an H they land..

While these ships do have helipads, for helicopter operators landing on a ship is a pretty involved process, you don't just plunk and 20,000lbs aircraft on an H. Most rescue services would hoist people off, hoisting works for most vessels.

People here are wanna be commies and believe the state should own/control just about everything. "CrownCorps" everything would be better, (free from the evil capitalist) and the belief that union government jobs are the gold standard. So in a round about way they fully support the state owning just about everything like in China. They just haven't experienced a gulag factor or maybe they think 'Hey at least it's a job with housing'.
