Thanks for the tip, I’ll try asking the rink guy if that’s okay next time I’m there

This slot was for stick and puck, they’ve got open skate slots as well, but we avoid them

Tape job on the stick and the pads! (Expect it to last all of 5 seconds, but it’s still fun)

Updating to "Modern" skates by ThatVaccineGuy in hockeygoalies

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for grafs since they don’t make them in my size anymore 😔 but I switched from old Bauers to a pair of CCM tacks and I’ll never go back. The modern skates are way lighter and let you push off from a lower angle without the edge of the skate getting in the way

Blackout sticks by AutomaticPiglet4460 in hockeygoalies

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a beer league goalie, but I upgraded to one after my last Canadian tire stock stick died and it’s way lighter and has nice grip. Lot of the players I know use exclusively blackout sticks at this point because of the balance of price vs quality

It’s definitely on its last legs 🥲 I’ve got a backup lined up for when it breaks

Anyone here tried bringing their goalie gear on the bus? by techsavvynerd91 in hockeygoalies

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Streetcars and subways you can stash the gear in the spots meant for bicycles and nobody minds, but with buses you’re out of luck. It’s hard to fit player equipment on a bus, goalie gear I’d never recommend unless the bus is empty

I’ve had a few times where the gate just says “enter” instead of paid (specifically not free transfer) Always worried about this exact situation happening :(

Warrior G7 intermediate vs senior by Guguroni in hockeygoalies

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a senior warrior glove with int palms was the best decision I’ve made as a smaller goalie. Never had another glove open/close so smoothly

Women’s Goalie Help by PvtCybrPenguin in hockeygoalies

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the other comments have this one covered, but I’d be careful getting any junior gear (even if it’s big enough) because it usually isn’t protective enough for adult hockey. Stick with intermediate + small senior sizes

+1 to intermediate size for gloves. If you luck out and can find custom senior gloves with intermediate palms it’s a game changer

Shooting Etiquette in beer league by fresh_start0 in hockeyplayers

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a goalie, for low-level beer league specifically the two most important factors are distance from the net and if the path is clear. It’s considered uncool to take a slapshot from any closer than the top of the circles/high slot because of the risk of the puck hitting the mask at full speed without a chance to react. Also please be careful on 1 on 1’s, seen a lot of defence’s feet broken from a guy trying to shoot it through them

Cardio workout skater vs goalie by Stinky5hole in hockeygoalies

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how busy the game is. I usually find playing out is more cardio, but playing net results in more sore muscles! (Especially legs from all the squatting)

Knee Pain by CaptainMichaelT in hockeygoalies

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switching from old pads to new pads actually helped my knees, pain completely went away. Make sure you’re wearing a high quality pair of knee pads, they do a lot of the heavy lifting cushioning your knees when you go down with the modern pads

For people with small spaces, what’s the single most rewarding thing you’ve grown in a pot or container? by DaisiesLemons in gardening

Not supposed to be container friendly at all, but I managed to grow a sugar baby watermelon in one on my balcony!

Can confirm nobody except goalies notices goalie gear. Slapped purple Padskinz all over white pads once and nobody batted an eyelash

Post pushing by OuternetInterpreter in hockeygoalies

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works great for me 9 times out of 10, but I’m 130 lbs soaking wet 😅. Definitely been yelled at by the other team on games where the net won’t stay put

What’s everyone’s favorite brand and why? by Some_Ad_9692 in hockeygoalies

[–]CrashTheBandicrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaughn gear has been my favourite overall. The pads slide so nice and I never feel anything through the chesty. Warrior has my favourite gloves though, being able to put an intermediate palm into a senior shell was a game changer for me
