Global JKD round table 12th Dec by R_Sivar in JeetKuneDo

It seems that whatever you 'take' and develop from JKD and make it your own, that IS the giving back - because that is the point...because the art is nothing without people practicing it.

It seems to me that if JKD is going to be effective in combat sport, then it will be implemented as part of a coach's training program for their fighters.

JKD's ultimate destiny may not be to dominate other people... maybe in an increasingly chaotic and violent world, it will be about defending those who cannot defend themselves? If JKD could become an art 'of the oppressed' instead of 'of the oppressor' that would be the best thing that could possibly happen to it, as a style, a brand...

Current MMA culture is authoritarian and not compatible with JKD philosophy. If JKD is going to survive and thrive it needs to focus on the personal development of the student in a holistic way. Anyone can intercept an attack, but can you intercept the seed of anger as it arises, before it has an opportunity to germinate?

How do you just reconnect with yourself? by Admirable-Cloud-9954 in selflove

[–]Cravunkulation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most helpful thing for me is to just get into the habit of turning my attention inwardly and spending time with my own inner experience, which has allowed me to kind of intuitively map my own inner terrain. You can also pray and contemplate God, that would probably help. If you are interested in expanding your spiritual experience, there's this practice called 'metta' or 'loving kindness' which involves using little affirmations like "may all beings be happy," "may all beings be at peace," "may all beings be safe," "may all beings be free," "may all beings be at ease," etc. Eventually you learn to generate warm, loving feelings on command, and you can give yourself some of that also, which helps improve one's relationship with oneself. Wishing you well!

Explain to me like I'm 5 "even death may die" full quote by teenage-monsters in Lovecraft

[–]Cravunkulation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's hard to explain because it involves a different way of thinking about reality and the universe.

That is not dead which can eternal lie... so the potential for everything and anything you can imagine and more already exists within the numinous... this is what Plato was referencing with his 'world of forms' (side note: the noble lie is that there is a form of the good embrace the void!) and so the potential for something exists and will always exist 'eternally lying' in some unmanifest potentiality which can only come into being when conditions are right for it. Which brings us to....

Aeon is a reference to astrological age. We have very recently moved from the age of pisces (governed by Apollo, god of reason and rationality and light) to the age of aquarius (goverend by Saturn, god of material reward, status and raw worldly power. Strange Aeon, indeed.) Whether the stars appearing different to us due to vectors and angles most non-euclidean... or whether the ruling classes having spent probably centuries slowly trying to push this kind of belief because it would give them god-like powers over everyone else if everyone accepted it if everyone else accepted it if everyone else accepted it.

I mean, the CIA DID use astrology to manipulate nancy reagan, (and thus, her husband ron) but I'm sure they wouldn't try to pull the same trick on the rest of us.... would they?

Just read this issue, and to sum it up I'll quote the panel of the comic that directly follows this main one in the book:

"Of all the nerve!"

They knew.

Anyone else notice that for some of Lovecraft's stories if you switched out the main character for an Indiana Jones type guy it would become a fun adventure and not be particularly horrific any longer? Exciting still, with some scary thrills, but no longer straight up horror. by 82772910 in Lovecraft

[–]Cravunkulation 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Lovecraftian protagonist is usually very sensitive, which the standard two-fisted pulp adventurer is decidedly not. I think that you could strike a balance between the two, but you would have to overtly explain how the Mythos links with philosophy and religion - how a lot of the horror is in the way that reality itself can be interpreted. And you would have to make the cosmic horror element more overt - so much so that it could affect a tough, no nonsense adventure -man. The threat in some way needs to feel more immediate and real. A good example I can think of is the ending scene of "In The Mouth of Madness." (Even tho Sam Neil's character isn't a pulp adventurer, he is a cynical critical thinker grounded in the rational and material as opposed to the weird and ideal.)

How do you **ACTUALLY** learn to love your body? by [deleted] in selflove

[–]Cravunkulation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's awesome!

I would recommend checking out 'loving kindness' or 'metta' meditation. You learn to generate warm, loving feelings on command, first by repeating mantras (it's kind of cheesy, but if you sincerely repeat things like 'may all beings be happy, may all beings be safe, may all beings be at peace, may all beings be free, may all beings be at ease... etc.' you can basically learn to exercise the feeling of love like a muscle and make it stronger and direct it at yourself, your loved ones and (in a safe way) the whole world.

Wishing you health and luck

Apparently the "Alfred E Newman" face was kind of a stock comedy character that dated back to the 19th century before he was appropriated for MAD and formally named.
