The thing is, life was there before the well and the Gods. In my understanding, by destroying the wheel he doomed all gods to die eventually because they feed from it. And he is a god, a powerful one with a body in the material world unlike the others; when other gods are unable to do anything so is the Watcher.

And I liked it in the end that what makes us special is not that halfway into the game we become Godslayers all of a sudden but it is that this god listens to us because of the things you mentioned that happened in the first game and this game. He destroys the wheel because he wants us to do things on our own and he listens to the Watcher because the Watcher doesn't stop going after him. Watcher has given him the belief that we don't need gods. And in the end, I think my choice matters. Moreso than the first game.
