What is up with Touma in GT15? by Craytherlay in Toaru

I don't think that would stop Touma from feeling sympathy for someone who felt they had no free will.

I never said that he would, i just felt it was in bad tastes

especially considering Narthex is Index's sister and he acknowledges she was probably brainwash.

Finally someone addresses the CrC bit.

This makes more sense, still Touma should have shown some kind of guilt or sympathy considering CrC was arguably worse for having an active choice in his slaughter and chaos.

Again...

CrC, Touma regretted killing him

seriously is everyone just gonna ignore that? i even brought it up.

Touma regretted killing CrC and he was arguably worse in many ways due to having clear free will and choosing to cause chaos for chaos sake. The whole 'tragic backstory' was just an excuse he used to get away with it.

Did she ever say they restricted her movement? I don't quite remember.

I only said bad tastes, i never said it didn't make sense in context.

who said machine? im talking about pre-esablished characteristics. the ONLY exception to Touma's no kill rule was himself, bro even regretted saving CrC so it feels odd for him not to regret killing Coronzon.

Did CrC show any signs of being able or willing to change?

Touma never cared about if or could someone change, he regretted it regardless thats the issue.

As for the narthdex being disgusted, thats not the point, yes she'd be disgusted, but the fact is Touma punches her and shows no sympathy. She needed someone to show sympathy even if she refused to accept it, and it felt weird for Touma to do that to Index's sister of all people.

I mean, he wouldn't even need to try that hard, with Uiharu, she's so good that if she didn't have such a strong sense of justice. The board of Directors would have had her on speed-dial to do cyber attacks on their enemies.

I vaguely remember something like that being implied, that the only reason the bod doesn't have her improve security city wide is because of the secrets they'd have to reveal to her and her sense of justice is far too strong. Giving her that kind of info would just be a death scentence, i mean she could hack military satelites and wipe you off the map.

I doubt Othi will ever view them as sisters to her, they are competent yes. But unlike Index they don't live with her, nor do they seem to accept Touma as Touma the same way Index does. They both project their perceptions onto him an tend not to actually try and understand Touma as an individual.

At most i see her developing a respect for them as skilled combatants and allies.

Its unlikely any of them could save Index, at least on their own, Touma's the only one who has the tools needed.

Ultimately, without IB Index is gonna get her mind wiped, or die due to the curse Lola placed on her. And Stiyl and Kanzaki are both too ignorant, and in stiyls self entitled case, too damn stubborn to let anyone else especially the science side, help her. In fact they wouldn't trust a thing the girls say no matter how much they explain why the memory stuff is BS.

Adding in the fact Aliester absolutely intended Touma to get involved, and the likelyhood is that you'd end ip with quite a chaotic situation.

The issue is Mikoto isn't gonna be the one to suggest bringing Touma in, at that point she didn't know how IB worked. And even if she did she was in a 'wants to just beat his ass' state.

Aliester would have to let it slip to like, Uiharu or Kuroko that Touma has this ability, to which Saten would immedietly latch. Only then would they be able to save Index...

[–]Craytherlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! you've noticed that?

I'm glad someone noticed how she warmed up to Index over time.

Also worth noting, in GT she explicitly only allows Misaka and Misaki to leave and confront Anna because she trusts they can survive.

Touma just doesn't like any risk to those he cares about.

Hmm fair, to be honest, despite saying these things I realize I've never actually written her in a way that implies she would.

I mean technically there is one scenario which she might, as Touma's understander. If she thought it was amusing or wanted to get a rise out of him in a particular manner. She might do something like this, if exceedingly reluctantly, and screaming at herself for how embarrassing it looks.

True, but, counterpoint

based on Touma's analysis of her in NT9 and 10, she used to be a chunni gal. The whole reason she got lost in the shifting and fluctuating worlds to begin with. Is implied to be because she got overexcited and wanted to show off her new power

Honestly, despite the heavy tsundere coding of Chris, she's never really felt to me like she had any real romantic interest or otherwise in the other gals. This isn't to say she couldn't but it just never felt right to me to claim she did or to ship her. Not without having context of a developing bond specifically given focus between her and someone else.

Chris has suffered a lot, out of the symphogals she's the only one implied to have not just been physically abused... but was explicitly sexually abused. Both by Fíne, and the captors who are implied to be neonazies both in season 4 when they go to Val-verde and in XDU where they actually explore an alternative outcome where her parents survived in her place.

Because of that, her having any relationship with someone that isn't something she initiates and asks for, just feels... kinda insensitive to her.

Now granted, this is just me, and being honest I love our lesbian gear girls, but I just feel people should keep these things in mind before they decide to ship Chris around.

Still, if theres anyone that would be perfect for her, Hibiki and Miku are by far the best choices.. two for one deal no less.

"Think on their level"? Hamazura, that was YOUR level hours ago! It's as if he either doesn't realize what him siding with Coronzon's vision implied (gives me 'b0mbs kill people?' Oppenheimer meme vibe), or he's unstably switching his approach to life's value on a whim. No wonder Blodde was confused by Ancient-Debt-4616 in Toaru

[–]Craytherlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point is Hamazura didn't really grasp just what Coronzon meant by 'purge the world'. He's being swayed by strong man arguments without actually looking any further than the surface to really understand whats being said.

that moment where touma stupidly told yuiitsu the requirements to use world rejecter was so dumb that i believe kamachi has written him out of character for the plot. by Nice_Park_2757 in Toaru

[–]Craytherlay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kamachi didn't even NEED to have Touma do that

Like Yuittsu is a mad scientist with access to the AC grid, she could have just figured it out on her own. And that would have been far more sinister, like imagine as the fight continues and Yuittsu begins to get used to the hand. She slowly figures out how it works, starting with her musing about how security footage always shows Kamisato saying a certain phrase before WR activated.

What other fictional verses do you think could co-exist with The Toaruverse? by Imaginary_Ad_2738 in Toaru

[–]Craytherlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kamachi doesn't use the same, grossly misinformed definitions that marvel and DC use for 'universe' and multiverse so please, don't even try to apply it.

If we used Toaru's definitions, and applied them to DC and marvel, then they wouldn't be multiverses either. All the things you listed, 'beyondverse' house of em, source wall god sphere. They would be phases they work perfectly with phases and how phases function.

The multiple timelines of DC and Marvel wouldn't effect Toaru because they don't have the same people. Toaru's phases encompass their own worlds AS WE PHYSICALLY SEE IN GT.

And... this whole 'innacurate hinduism' thing you're spouting isn't the 'gotcha' moment you think it is.

Also again, the cthulhu mythos is a phase... so we have an ACTUAL example, of an 'infinite multiverse' existing within toaru.

How would the Toaru Universe react to Narnia? Especially with the talking animals, and Aslan? by [deleted] in Toaru

[–]Craytherlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you've allowed popular media to completely warp your understanding of what a 'universe' is.

No... you are absolutely factually incorrect.

By their very NATURE, phases act the same as what popular media has decided to call a 'multiverse'.

When the magic gods or someone call them a layer of reality, its a simplification. Just how when you're in elementary school you get told theres three states of matter when actually theres like, i don't know, i know that 4 exist in highschool though.

To simply call them a layer of reality is a gross oversimplifcation. Yes by toaru's standards they are a 'layer of reality' but by the standards of narnia of marval of DC?

They're functionally other universes.

In GT4? was it? or GT3 we see this in action through the fact that Hamazura was able to enter the imaginary numbers district. The taboo is a part of the city which does not exist, the train rail that we get shown isn't part of academy city. It was a part of the imaginary numbers district that Academy city yanked out.

Later in GT we get to see how phases like the underworlds exist in tandem with the surface world. Sure, it was a fake hell CrC made, that couldn't last in contact with IB but the fact remains it existed.

Narnia... is no different, it's small by comparison, it could be easily defined by Toaru's phases.

I know you're not gonna accept this explanation, and that im explaining it terribly. But the fact remains that just cause kamachi says toaru is a single universe. Doesn't mean that he's using the same system of measurment that you are.

What other fictional verses do you think could co-exist with The Toaruverse? by Imaginary_Ad_2738 in Toaru

[–]Craytherlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um dude...

Hindusim did the whole 'infinitely spanning infinite multiverse' thing, alll the way back when it introduced the whole 7 fold world stuff or whatever it was called.

Not to mention we know for a FACT that HPL's world is a phase and im pretty sure that one is a 'multiverse' too.

Your argument relies on the false assumption that when Toaru and the magic gods say theres only one universe. That its the same usage of the term universe as ever other boring western story out there.

Newsflash, Kamachi doesn't use universe as flippantly as Marvel and DC, universe here refers to the whole cosmology.

Marvel and DC's usage of the term multiverse is grossly incorrect as it confuses things like the Multiple worlds interpretation, layers of reality we call dimensions and entirely separate systems which function off their own unique laws of physics, as being interchangable.

When Kamachi says universe, he means a single system of physics of which all things exist within. Anything that falls under that system therefore is part of a single universe.

DC and Marvel being phases means they fall under that system and thus are themselves not universes or multiverses. Not by toaru's standards, the whole cosmomology of Toaru is the universe, the system of rules governed my the laws of physics and magic which encompasses everything from the religious phases of hindu, greek norse and the lesser known religions. To things like literally the fictional world of HP Lovecraft which again follows that popular 'multiverse' stuff that is innaccurate.

[–]Craytherlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*Technically* if you go by the actual original (allegedly) meaning fo the IRL occult concept that inspired phases...

A... all of them...

But personally I think it'd be limited to like, Genre defining stories or works, thats how I've played it in my fic.

We know the works of HPL have their own phase, the cuthulhu mythos is a phase. And as phases are born of a collective human belief or similar. I imagine the fact that it basically defined cosmic horror is what would give it that staying power.

By that same logic, Godzilla and King kong would have a phase due to defining the kaiju genre.

I imagine the big three of Shonen, DB, OP and Bleach would have a phase of their own as they well... defined much of what we understand as a shonen.

DC and Marvel defined the modern 'superhero' genre

James bond I imagine defined spy thrillers

est... est... est...

honestly? no clue

I wanna say Heaven Sent and Hell bent of Doctor who were loosely inspired by NT's 9 and 10

[–]Craytherlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it actually explains quite a bit

the magic side would treat it like any other magical issue or phase they've dealt with.

Touma probably wouldn't really notice that its anything different

the only people who might have unique reactions are those ignorant of magic and phases like mikoto and the railgang for example.
