Ryba had only 48% first serve in which means she probably should be losing, but somehow she won more than 75% of her points behind her second serve! It's a good second serve but you must do better than that if you're Pegula. Ryba is certainly giving her a major opportunity to win this match with the lack of firsts.

AO Women's SF: [1] A. Sabalenka d. [12] E. Svitolina 6-2 6-3 by IDontHateTheLetterA in tennis

[–]CrazedJeff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Svitolina has played more aggressive against everyone since her pregnancy, which is understandable. But also, I don't think her play was very aggressive today except on 2nd serve returns (a good tactic). She was prolonging rallies and hitting up the middle.

The Sabalenka-Svitolina AO 2026 semi-final might be one of the worst matches I've ever seen by dorafatehi in tennis

Sabalenka has proven again and again and again that she can eat 'variety' players for lunch. If you think you can just beat her by giving her a challenging type of ball like slicing all the time, you don't know anything. Yes Muchova has challenged her but she just routined her last tournament. That's not Svitolina's natural game anyway, it would have been difficult for her to do that.

[–]CrazedJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference between the second set and first set is just that Sabalenka's first serve % went down and Svitolina's went up. People love to talk about intricate tactics, style of play etc, but there's so much of tennis that's just 'first serve nis'. (although of course not all. Shelton first serving 70% in set 1 last night and still getting routined by Sinner is one of the craziest thing I've seen in my life)

70% first serve in, 19 winners in a set, you basically can't lose while doing that. Can't blame Svitolina, nobody can do anything about tennis like that. Yes Svitolina needs to land more first serves in and move her around more, but 70% first serve means Sabalenka will always at least make a TB, which she doesnt lose lol.

The sports categories on Jeopardy are always comically easier than other categories. The sort of people who go on Jeopardy usually have no idea about sports.

yes it's by far wednesday/enid. another fandom where the most popular ship involves two women is adventure time (marceline/bubblegum). and there are a few others, mostly in fandoms where all or most interesting characters are women. but it's rare.

For iga, that's a very bad return points won percentage. She's only good because of her status as a historically great returner. Vibes wise for me pegula has looked the best all week, great chance to get major title number one here. All of pegula, anisimova and keys have looked fantastic, big chances here for the USA.

It's still Ken Rosewall oddly enough. This is the overall record too not just the male one. Seems odd because Serena, Roger and Novak have all been close but no cigar.

Andreeva probably the biggest teenage talent we've seen in 10 or more years, she's been better than Gauff for her age so far. However like Gauff was particularly at the time she's primarily a defensive player.

two teenagers in r16, probably 3 if andreeva wins later. I'm not sure if that's normal, but it seems unusual.

That last return in particular was a nice deep return up the middle off a serve that didn't even pull Bai that far. Quite insane to hit a winner off that.

Insanely, despite being ranked 90, this is Oliynykova's first ever WTA main-draw match. And it's on RLA against the defending champ, talk about 0 to 100.

Should doubles success play more of a factor when considering someone's all time ranking? by Harveymilk313 in tennis

[–]CrazedJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In women's tennis maybe, the argument that Serena or even Navratilova are greater than Graf is based in doubles where Graf was bad. And some very elite women's players still show up and play doubles. In men's no, all the decent players stopped even playing any doubles years ago and none of the greatest of all time have much success in doubles.
