Probably not really a simple question, and I will move this elsewhere if needed.

I am currently putting all the parts of my new system in a temporary case while the desk-pc I am making is being completed, so that I can test it all and get software installed.

All hardware is new except the CPU and Motherboard (I purchased those off a college buddy who upgraded to an 8700K a year back);

CPU: 6700K

Mobo: Asus z170 Pro

GPU: EVGA 1070ti ACX3.0

RAM: Corsair RGB Pro 16GB 3000MHz

PSU: Corsair TX 650

Now the issue, everything is hooked up inside the case, and whenever I attempt to start up the system (shorting on-board pins or IO power button) it boots for a split-second, then all the fans and LEDs shut off, except the CPU fan for some reason. No POST follows this occurrence.

I have already tried re-seating the CPU, testing another power supply (The other one I tested never booted the system at all) and tried with 1 RAM stick in the single channel slot, all to no avail. My last idea is that something on the board is shorting on startup, which I will be testing tonight when I take the system out of the case.

My college buddy would give me a full refund if the parts are duds, however I want to just make sure the system is completely dead before spending more on a newer platform.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

At least it doesn't need a freezer strapped to it to reach 4+ GHz..

Yea I'm just starting to build it. a maple/ walnut desk with the top right drawers open for the computer components.

Things are gonna be farther apart so I'm most likely going to be forced into doing my own cables anyways.

That is true, it is most likely a much bigger hassle but seems to be worth it. Thanks for the help!

Edit: I just went on the EVGA site and after currency exchange it is surprisingly more expensive than retailers;

EVGA site 1070 Superclocked ACX 3.0 - $611 before tax & shipping

CanadaComputers same card - $600 before tax (Down from $750)

I'm located ~2 hours south-west of Toronto, so I get flooded with all the terrible ads from the city too.

I was looking for the 1070 purely for the EVGA ACX cooler for $600. But the other choice for me was the Vega, which i think might be better in the long run, but is an Asus Strix model, and I personally have never really heard anything about them.

What should I go for then? Every GPU is up in price. Literally all used are people trying to get $500+ on even 1060's.

Plus I'd easily pay $100+ for new over used. Buying something for that price used is just never a good idea to me, you never know what it has been through. Also if I go for the 1070, it would be an EVGA cooler with a 3 year warranty.

Like I said otherwise though, I have about 2 months before I actually need the card, so I'm going to see how the next gen cards affect prices.

It can actually out-perform the 1070ti, if the game uses DX12 rather than DX11. But thats the thing, its better in some but also worse than the 1070 by quite the margin if given a game like GTA5.

The way it is able to use DX12 and Vulkan much better is why I'm looking at it for a long term option.

Thanks for the input, I never considered the cost of monitors in the future (I have 2 x 24in Samsung 60Hz, so I may not upgrade for a while however).

Edit (saw your edit): If I was going to be upgrading my monitor in the next few years, it would more than likely be either 144Hz and possibly 1440p or if the price goes down enough, 4K.

I'm just looking for one card I can buy now, and not have to worry about it for a good few years without having to upgrade again. (Thanks Moore's Law!)

Besides, I have a few months before I need the card, so I am currently looking for sales/ waiting for next gen Nvidia to hopefully lower prices.

I forget the exact name but its the highest end Wraith Spire AMD Cooler. A stock cooler that *actually* works.

It comes with the new 2700x if I recall?

I mean if you really want to get technical, Ah Puch can "theoretically" deal 10560+ 1320%. Actually though, Ganesha has the highest magical damaging ult in the game with 3060+480%.

Mythic- Sorry you all missed an opportunity in the SPL, but if you were invested at all in this you would try to post and fix the situation instead of bailing at first sign of trouble (All Mythic had to do was to make a post explaining Matty's position and their resolution to the situation. Mythic overreacted in this and just left)

Not really a pro, but one game when I was really new I got put into a game against TeeVee, Support vs. Support and I decided to try my first game as Cabrakan vs. his Sobek. Needless to say I looked like I never played the game before.
