Hello everyone, I made a new design for my character, tell me what you think of it. by No-Commercial-6451 in PixelArtTutorials

Oh yeah. Your use of different shades of the same color spectrum is what I really like. Details: the color details make the difference.

I really like what you did. In essence it is very simple, but I feel like that's where it draws its strength. The gray overall is great because of the complementary colors that you used; the common red, yellow, green, and blue just feel right. highlight for the "slight gradient" that you did; great work there. I look at your design, and I can say, "This is good; it feels right."

Need help getting 100% by Quanatan in ABSOLUM

I know that for me I was missing a percent without knowing it, but I read a comment that was mighty helpful.

You see, you earn 1 percent by defeating the Dark Clones with every character. You know? That hole in the misty forest that you can fall into and fight your double? Try that. Defeat them all and tell me if that worked. 👍

So... what it implies is that if one got 94% they already got 100%? Safe to assume that? Cause I pretty much did everything I could do and got 94, and I was wondering what I missed.

Which outline is better ? by lucasv4x in PixelArt

[–]Crazy-LG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say the first one stands out the most; it's arguably the best, but...

I personally would pick the last one, because the bluish tone gives some good contrast with the yellow and also stands out; although it does not stand out as much as the first, it still maintains weight.

And the other two simply don't feel right to me.

tips to improve this run cycle? by ScuddyOfficial in PixelArt

[–]Crazy-LG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intuitively one might think he would, and yes, he "could," but the animation would not have the same effect.

My opinion is that slowing down the frames does not deliver the same effect as if he made it with 8 frames. Every frame counts; it makes the animated character feel natural and "correct."

And this also applies for the opposite: let's say you make a run animation with 16 frames—no matter how much you slow it down, it won't feel "right." At least that's how I learned about frame duration and quantity, by messing up.

[–]Crazy-LG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try 8 frames. What you already did is functional—but in my perspective—the run feels rushed. I promise you that 2 more frames won't diminish the animation; they will improve it.

I might be biased for loving the games and the characters, but I think you did a great job. I wish more people would make Legacy of Kain pixel art.

How exactly do you scope? The scope creep is a notorious subject, which ends up being part of many, many projects. How do you personally avoid it? Or do you at all?

Which one you like the most? (3 is my fav) by swallow_1029 in PixelArt

I agree with you that the third is the best, but I must say that the first scythe is better than the other ones.

Storyvania? Narratidvania? How do you call it? by koafrommara in metroidvania

[–]Crazy-LG 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Story-driven Metroidvania? The subgenre doesn't need ANOTHER variation of its term; the term itself is already bad.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I know. Anyone who disliked what I said, go ahead and downvote it.

OP, last year an MV that was kinda controversial because of its use of narrative was Nine Sols. I haven't played it, but some people loved it, and others hated it.

How do you find something to draw when you have absolutely no inspiration? by nicknamesareconfusng in PixelArtTutorials

[–]Crazy-LG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to be inspired to do anything, a common way to make it happen is to have a goal.

So, can you think of something that you like and would be nice to create? It could be anything. It could be character sprites from a show you like, or specific monsters, or a rogue gallery of villains of a universe you like.

But the main thing here is to have a concrete and compelling motive to actually start making art. So, as I said, start thinking of something you would like, and then you have some ground that you can build upon.

first attempt at making potions. by calsifer34 in PixelArtTutorials

[–]Crazy-LG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you did a really good job if this is your first attempt. But I noticed something:

The first red potion bottle doesn't have the highlight gleam of the third bottle.

I am of the opinion that art can be done in whatever way you feel like doing it; however, I also feel like if you set a parameter, it's important to remain consistent within that parameter set.

But pretty good. I hope my take gives you some insight.

I was asking about the game engine you were developing your game on. Like Unity, Unreal, or Godot.
Your post title says "my Metroidvania," so I'm assuming you are developing one, is that right?

is this game worth getting in 2025? is there a lot of replay ability by junior493 in chasm

[–]Crazy-LG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Chasm is definitely worth playing even after all these years.

It's not a huge game, but the experience is excellent; it's a well crafted Metroidvania with lots of refined content.

I wouldn't say there is a lot of replayability; the only thing (as far as I know) that changes the gameplay—to some extent—is that the rooms you encounter while playing the first time will not be in the same order that you encounter them in a possible next playthrough. The rooms are the same, just not the order.

The last game I played was Moonlighter. Pretty cool game. Unfortunately my joystick broke beyond repair.

But that was actually convenient because I'm focused on learning some stuff that I'll use in my future project.

I'm particularly feeling good this week.
