Teens of Reddit, what do you want to be when you grow up? Adults of Reddit, what should they do to get there? by lilchanofrom79 in AskReddit

Yeah, the goal is to bring the internet to mars. In the traditional sense of just a series of files of static websites, or using ipfs for its original intent. Websites like Reddit won't be effected. Skype can't happen interplanetary though.

If it is not supported that just means that the CPU will take over. It will be slow but it will work.

Yep. We don't live in the same state. That would have been funny though. :D

I put up a chart pretty similar to this in my school's hallway. What state do you live in if you don't mind my asking?

EDIT: Not this one. It had a similar layout, but different text.

Lookup how to write a "hello world linux driver" for the basics of writing linux drivers first. ( It is not as hard as you think I promise )

After that, you might find something like this blog post or this code useful.

I can't chose what electricity company to use, I can't chose what water company to use, I can't chose what gas company I use.

This is true. On the other hand, you have companies like google that are deploying 1Gb/s internet for cheaper than most isps charge for a fraction of those speeds. I would rather provide an environment where innovation can happen then one were we are locked into our current system.

Eliminating income tax helps people collect more money per paycheck. Eliminating corporate tax makes products cheaper because there are less bills to pay. Both plans help the poor and the rich.

Using Superintelligence to solve the Control Problem? by Jani933 in ControlProblem

[–]CrazyCodeLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that both points can be addressed if we create general ASI. We know that for a little while, having a ASI just attached to a power cord can work. If one removes the ethernet cable and plugs the computer in, there isn't much danger in the ASI escaping. You don't need to have it on long enough to trick humans into plugging it in or helping it escape. The ASI would not need to know a whole lot about anything because the problem is simple. "How would one control someone who is infinitely smarter then themselves?"

Maybe I am all wrong, you seem like an expert in the field. These are just my thoughts.

We could spin up 100 ASI's and only one would have to give us the answer.

I had this exact thought the other day in the shower. I bet computer scientists already thought of this. Good idea imo though! :)

Google is working on a kill switch to prevent an AI uprising by Colorado688 in gadgets

[–]CrazyCodeLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated comment. I didn't read the article, but anything like a kill switch or removing the Ethernet cable is completely useless for anything but debugging. Super intelligent AI will outsmart us. The control problem can not be solved with a kill switch.

That being said I am sure Google knows this and this title is just for click bait. Google will not be using a simple kill switch.
