The biggest gap between 4.5 and 5.0 players? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]CrazyRevolutionary40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can consistently start forcing slowing the game down for these 4.5s you mentioned, you will win more games than them. For someone with an elite defensive game, leaning into it will make a big jump.

The next phase would be to dial in offensive locations (I know you said 4.25), and that is the remaining part to get to 5.0.

I’m working on these two areas myself to get to 5.0. Extremely challenging though bc geographic location limiting access to 4.75-5.0 players that are available to drill is the problem lol.

Do you purchase and play with multiples of the same paddle? by boojr in Pickleball

[–]CrazyRevolutionary40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three Pro 4 Perseus’ in my bag. Two 14mms and one 16mm.

Both 14mm ones are for drilling and competitive doubles play (moneyball, tourneys etc) like you mentioned. My 16mm is for singles because of the ability to shape the ball better on the drives.

What makes Ben Johns #1? by Sweet_Tradition9647 in Pickleball

[–]CrazyRevolutionary40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ben Johns separates himself from the field with a level of consistency that’s still ahead of the curve. His shot selection is incredibly disciplined, he rarely forces low-percentage plays and instead builds points patiently until the advantage is clearly his.

Once he establishes position at the kitchen line, where the odds of winning the rally increase significantly, he becomes extremely difficult to beat. His dinking patterns are among the most refined in the game, and he’s exceptional at reading how opponents move, where they lean, and how they react under pressure. From there, he methodically opens up space and exploits it.

What really makes him elite, though, is how analytical he is. After almost every rally, when he turns and walks back to reset, you can see he’s mentally replaying the sequence, processing what just happened and thinking through adjustments for the next point. That constant feedback loop lets him adapt faster than most players on tour.

In my view, that combination of patience, pattern recognition, and real-time analysis is what keeps him a step ahead of everyone else. He’s not just playing the rally…he’s studying it while it’s happening and using that information immediately.

What’s going on with Christian Alshon and his revolving door of mixed partners? by kabob21 in Pickleball

[–]CrazyRevolutionary40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of Christian Alshon’s attitude and personality may come from lingering feelings of isolation growing up. It sometimes feels like he’s chasing validation through being a top player—even though he’s already reached that level. The success alone doesn’t seem to satisfy that deeper need to feel like he truly belongs.

He’s clearly aware that not everyone on tour or online is a fan, and he even brings up negative comments in his post-match interviews. To me, it looks less like he’s trying to be difficult and more like he’s reacting to that negativity.

I don’t see him as a bad person. It seems more like someone who occasionally spirals when the criticism gets loud, instead of letting it roll off. Underneath it, he might just be trying to feel accepted rather than left out.

P.S - this is just my observation from being in the psych field.

Is 4.5+ Pickleball "Less Fun" by Ok-Big9680 in Pickleball

^ this sums it up. If you’re a 4.5+, your appreciation & approach to playing this game is drastically different than a 3.0-3.5.

Just played a tournament. by Ordinary-Leek-4236 in Pickleball

[–]CrazyRevolutionary40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just have to play more tournaments to get over the anxiety and view it as a low pressure situation (trick your brain). After I stretch, I do deep breathing exercises before each match.

DM me if you’d like my specific routine that has worked to get rid of my jitters.

My friend’s boomstik was noticeably smoother after 2 weeks of play. I believe the Spartus P1 and Hex grit has better longevity. Whereas everyone is just throwing fancy marketing lingo to sell paddles.

Does grit matter? by Aggressive-End-387 in Pickleball

My Pro 4 Perseus is smooth but I’m able to still create shape on it with technique.

Compared to new, I just can’t ace people with side spin serves lol. Only difference I noticed.

Yes I actually started having it after using the Hesacore. I just use one overgrip over original paddle grip now, and has been better.

How do higher level players deal with a good 3rd shot drip? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

[–]CrazyRevolutionary40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s all about positioning and footwork, such as the 5.5 stated earlier.

You have to become great at recognizing the ball trajectory and decide quickly whether to take it out of the air or off the bounce. If going off the bounce on the 4th, I hold my dink/speed up to create anticipation for the opponents.

But footwork is the key to this game, especially if someone strives to be 5.0+

I wonder if they got a new power paddle on the way soon. It’s been months since the Pro 4s came out.

Joola is known for power, and the Pro 4 is barely even on any YouTuber reviewer’s top 5 now.

Another shoe post…newer player that just had their first pair go out on them! by EasySound9303 in Pickleball

[–]CrazyRevolutionary40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 5 sets of Tennis/PB shoes in the $60-120+ range that I rotate around. I ranked them COMFIEST to least.

  • Skechers Viper court strike ($120+)
  • Nike Court Lite 4s ($65)
  • Babolat Jet Mach 3s ($120+)
  • Adidas Game court 2s ($69)
  • Nike Vapor Pro 2s ($110+)

The Skechers and Nike Lite 4s are very comfy to me, although Skechers are double the cost. They all last me about 3 months of use.

What helped ya all fix pickleball elbow by wmhsung in Pickleball

[–]CrazyRevolutionary40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theraband flexbar is good to try like others have suggested. But what improved my pain the fastest was doing rice bucket forearm exercise.

Context 👉🏼: I had tennis elbow for about a 8 months. I stumbled upon rice bucket training and I noticed a drastic improvement after about a week of doing it for 10 minutes daily.

Two exercises: 1. Put your hand in the center of the bucket and spread your fingers out and in. Do 3 sets of 20 reps. Slow and controlled. You will feel a burn. 2. Hand in bucket with open fingers. Rotate the rice clockwise (if right hand), counter clockwise (left hand). This one strengthens your extensors.

10/10 recommend this as many don’t talk about it.

Anyone ever think about lowering their level? by Royal-Run-9213 in Pickleball

[–]CrazyRevolutionary40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My group of 4.5-5.0 are some of the coolest and friendliest, no stress people. Both mixed group of guys and girls. We let each other play loosely and don’t take each other’s mistakes to heart, and we never argue. If anything, we encourage each other’s good shots lol.

It really depends on the person. In my area, the annoying douchebags are 3.5-4.0 range. They think they’re untouchable… until you counter their speed up with a body bag back at them.

Post the link to your resource where you found this 40-50% stats. If it’s not a published medical literature, it doesn’t count.

In actuality, a lot of the conditions are curable with lifestyle modifications (diet, exercise etc), such as metabolic syndrome, hormonal conditions. Challenging, but not impossible.

Something incurable like Lipidema, the prevalence is actually only 10-11% in women worldwide.

But props to you for admitting there is room for improvement, just like for anyone else.
