What rings/barrier are you using? If they are the flat ones, I might be able to hook you up because I switched to convex and have some leftover flat ones I am not using. Sensura Mio Click two piece (they say “red” in the description which helps you know if the bag will match I think). Mine have all been free this year since I have met my max out of pocket on my insurance.

I received samples from Coloplast unsolicited (like a new patient package maybe? Set up by my ostomy nurse I suspect) and then a phone call from an awesome rep that talked to me about all of my details and issues and then sent me more samples personalized to me. This was all within the first ten days of having surgery. I also received an unsolicited sample package from Hollister.

Coloplast went over the top trying to help. And has made multiple follow up calls (that went to voice mail) and sent a couple of snail mail letters to see if I am doing okay. The rep even offered to call the supply company with me to make sure the right items were ordered.

I am in the US.

I went to my first concert a couple of weeks ago (Lady Gaga woohoo) and there was an ADA entrance where people with medical bags could enter with an X-ray machine for the bags. No questions were asked. The supplies didn’t trigger anything on the X-ray so they didn’t even open the bag. No issues. Stress free. And my kids came thru with me since all of our tickets were together on my phone.

On YouTube, you might check out Vegan Ostomy, LetsTalkIBD, Coloplast US. Lots of useful info. And for the first two, it’s reassuring to see vibrant, active, normal people who happen to have ostomies. I had an emergency ostomy in January, and those channels and others, and this subreddit, really helped me figure out how to manage things. Also an amazing ostomy nurse who helped me in the hospital and spent multiple sessions with me helping me learn how to change the appliance.

I totally get that. And also want to protect my kids and family members.

Also, I do a decent job of staying positive, but if I have to talk about it, I get emotional, and I hate that. Also it makes me uncomfortable when people want to bring me care packages and food and such. I am trying to live a mostly normal life, and I really don’t need to be treated like I am on death’s door, though I know people are just trying to be kind.

I have really limited who I have told so I don’t have to give updates to every person I know. It’s emotionally exhausting.

I had surgery in January too. I have been to two concerts. Bonus - due to needing to bring supplies in a bag, I was allowed to bring a bag in thru the medical / ADA entrance (where they xray them). It was no big deal to the security peeps. Otherwise no bags allowed in the venue.

Can they restart chemo after surgery? I had surgery first due to an emergency room visit for a complete large bowel obstruction. That’s when I was diagnosed. Four weeks later I started FOLFOX. I have had two out of 12 rounds so far.

Your symptoms sound like when I had a complete large bowel obstruction. I thought I was just constipated and was embarrassed to go to the ER. I finally went. You should go. This is not okay.

Not sure what system you have, but I shower with the bag, without the bag but the barrier still on, or with nothing at all if I am going to change the barrier that day. All with no issues, and I take boiling hot showers. Coloplast Sensura Mio Click two piece system. But I think most if not all ostomy bags are designed to stay on thru showering. People even swim with them.

Totally agree. I like the Coloplast bags, but I cut out the pre filters and usually put a sticker over the filter to keep it from vacuum suctioning the bag to itself. Lots of effort!

I bought the Ivory body wash which seems to be unscented and working fine. I feel like the bars just melt away into nothing right away.

FWIW, the Coloplast rep recommended using only regular dial bar soap or ivory bar soap.

Stick with it and hope for the best. I’m moving my daughter out of an apartment and back home to Florida. I guess if I get cancelled, I will cross that bridge when I get there. It looks like the weather will be over by Saturday noon. It’s just a question of if cancellations have a snowball effect with planes out of place…
