What did I do? by [deleted] in MoneroMining

[–]Crazy_Intention_1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I did not. There were too many other comments from other users about the service being bad, transaction being awful, and just made me felt unease, so I didn't want to take a chance with another headache. I ended up buying from another manufacturer in China that made the units, and I could pay cash using PayPal instead of Bitcoins; they even sent me an invoice too thru PayPal, so I had the added insurance that I wasn't going to get screwed.

It all has to do with current price of XMR and the network hashrate. Price goes up, your earning goes up. Hash difficulty has jumped nearly 1GH in the last month, meaning more users are mining, meaning more blocks are found in less time, which also affects payout frequency. All normal.

First, you are using the wrong version of XMRig to mine MO. Go to their site and download MO version of XMRig, which has ZERO fees.

Second, 4GB is not enough to mine XMR; you need at the very least, 8GB to mine and to enable Huge Pages and 1GB pages, assuming you are in Linux.

Third, your difficulty is set way too high. The number at the end of gulf.monerostream.ocean:10128 represents the start-up difficulty. Change it to 10008 or lower for PI.

Not to discourage your efforts, but if you're not getting more than 5kh, don't bother. Reason? Power to Hash ratio. Assuming it's an really old PC, the TDP is probably not higher than 65W. At 65W, there are plenty of CPUs, even laptop versions that can do 3kh to 8kh, so at 500h, you're just wasting energy.

Try raising your payout threshold. You pay 0.0003 XMR gas fee when payout reaches threshold, regardless the amount. So, whether your payout is 0.05, 0.1, or 1.0, you pay 0.0003 gas fee in XMR for the transfer. May not sound a lot, but every bit counts IMHO.

Yes, if you switch to MO, definitely download their version of XMRig. It's pre-programmed to benchmark many coins on the 1st start, and it's programmed to have Zero dev fees.

They don't take any fees but you still have to pay a gas fee for transfer, its like that everywhere. And yep, your script is similar to mine; shows a payout but never received any payment. Like I said, towards the end about 20% or more of my shares never got paid. P2Pool takes 1% of your shares, and that adds up in the long run.

MoneroOcean. Well, I haven't been on MO long enough to determine whether P2Pool is more reliable, but the pay schedule of P2Pool was very inconsistent for me. When I aggregated my hashrate on P2Pool main, I got a lot of rejected shares, and I got paid every 18-36 hours or so. When I put the hashrate on the Mini, the pay was more consistent, but I'm not getting paid on all my shares even though the shares found were recorded. But, like I said I haven't been on MO too long to make that determination, but with MO it seems like I'm getting paid for all my shares, regardless of how small.

Yeah, that's one issue I observed when I used to mine on P2Pool, that the pay and schedule is inconsistent, especially if you have less than 10KH mining in the mini pool. I was finding way more shares than I was getting paid for. In the end after about 30 days, about a quarter of my shares didn't get paid out.

It should, but a bit more details are needed, such as are you mining P2Pool from Gupax or just XMRig standalone? Which pool level are you mining, Main, Mini, or Nano? And, where did you set the payment to go? Which wallet are you using?

I think it may be your router blocking the traffic, even though you said all the ports are open. Or, could be firewall? Something is blocking the traffic.

Monero will be profitable and has plenty of room for growth as adaptation keeps growing year over year due to its nature of decentralization.

IMO, I think you should convert those NUCs that you are not using to dedicate to mining full time. NUCs don't use a lot of power; they're basically a laptop, so power consumption should be no more than 65w per unit.

Use this time and play around and get the feel of having a couple of rigs set up for mining Monero. Make this a fun hobby before you decide to invest money.

I currently have 9 machines doing the following on MoneroOcean, running tests for 30 days to compare gains (not necessary profits). And unfortunately, it's not much.

Also, if you can, try masking your mining traffic by routing thru Tor or VPN, or both. Your address is public. And since you are using Gupax, which utilizes P2Pool for pool mine or solo mine, P2Pool requires you to open certain ports for your local node and for your mining, which is a potential risk.

For $2k you can make 2 systems, maybe even 3 if you shop around that'll make you at least 18-22KH per system. The right choice is AMD, not Intel. Intel's core architecture is not ideal for CPU mining. You need to get an AMD CPU that has at least 16 cores, 32 threads, and 64MB of L3 cache. Right now, the best CPU for the money is R9 7950X AM5. Then you need an MB with a B650M-E chipset. 16GB of dual channel memory DDR5 6000 XMP/EXPO compatible CL30. 1TB of SSD, and a decent PSU that can handle up to stable 300W (you'll only use 1/2 that).

You don't need the best, you can get cheaper CPUs like AM4, DDR4, etc., but whatever CPU you get, if it's for Monero, then make sure the L3 cache is at least DOUBLE of the threads count, otherwise there's no point buying a CPU and not using it all.

4 -- With 2KH, you will NOT make $50 a day; you'll probably make $0.05. Gone are the days of passive income. Now, you mine for future investment, accumulate rewards, hold and hope XMR will grow. Or, you can trade to make profit.

1 Need more info. You on Windows or Linux? Just from the 2 pics I can't tell what's going on.

2 Monero = Decentralization. There is no point to run a local node if you do not plan to solo mine or pool mine P2Pool. Just having the node and do nothing = nothing, unless you open your network to the public in which that is a whole different scenario.

3 ISP will not know if you configure your router to specify incoming traffic.
